Montcross Area Chamber of Commerce 55th Annual Banquet By Alan Hodge

alan.bannernews@gmail.com

The Montcross Area Chamber of Commerce held its 55th annual banquet and awards event last Thursday. The gala affair took place in the Mount Holly Municipal Complex and was attended by a large crowd of business owners, entrepreneurs, bossmen/bosswomen, and other luminaries. The dinner was a smorgasbord of good eats and libations. The sound of tinkling plates and silverware blended with plenty of chatting and peals of laughter to give the scene a merry aspect. The chicken and stew beef disappeared as if by magic. Fluffy and chocolaty desserts followed suit. See more CHAMBER page 3

Sevin Dust worked great if you covered the leaves of the vegetation you wanted to protect before they ate those leaves, but I read up on how to rid or at least reduce the number of cankerworms you might have next year. Female cankerworms in the spring burSee more CANKERWORMS page 2

19th Annual Men Who Cook Event On February 22 at 12:15 pm in the Grand Hall of the Mount Holly Municipal Complex the Rotary Club of Mount Holly will host the 19th Annual Men Who Cook. This event features some of the finest male “chefs” in Gaston County. From elected officials and Rotarians to restauranteurs and members of the com-

munity who simply enjoy cooking, men and women gather to offer samples of vegetables, meats, soups, and desserts. This annual event is the Club’s primary fundraiser for the scholarships it provides for local high school seniors each May. All of the proceeds from the sale are used to fund the scholarships

awarded by the club. Annually over two hundred people gather to sample the food offerings presented at Men Who Cook. The dishes have ranged in variety from the humble, yet delicious, grilled cheese sandwich to more unusual dishes like venison stew or the annual favorite, homemade ice cream.
