2025 Capital Campaign Plan

Built in 1904, the WPS Powerhouse on Clarke Island played a significant role in establishing Wausau as an economic driver in central Wisconsin. With the building standing vacant for more than a decade, the structure was to be razed in 2020. In June of 2021, through a partnership with Wisconsin Public Service the Greater Wausau Chamber of Commerce secured a long-term lease of 40 years to preserve and repurpose the Powerhouse for the 21st Century.

The Innovator’s Exchange at the WPS Powerhouse envisions this historic

property as a vibrant center for innovation, collaboration and economic empowerment. The project carries forward the spirit of those who came before; pioneers who believed in the power of connection and the promise of progress.

The Powerhouse will ignite ideas, foster partnerships and shape the next chapter of Wausau’s story. Together, we will build on this legacy of growth and shared success, ensuring that the spark of innovation burns brightly for generations to come.
