The National Museum of Puerto Rican Art and Culture, and Paseo Boricua, The Puerto Rican Promenade - September 20, 2022 Immerse yourself in the colorful culture and history of the Puerto Rican community with this tour of the Humboldt Park area including the National Museum of Puerto Rican Art and Culture. This tour will provide a fresh, inspiring experience one of the most unique cultural and commercial districts in Chicago. Our tour will be led by Eduardo Arocho, who has over 26 years of experience leading tours in the Puerto Rican community. He is a historian, poet, arts/ community activist, entrepreneur, and tour guide with first hand knowledge of Humboldt Park. Tour includes lunch at an authentic, family owned Puerto Rican restaurant. We will depart Patricia A. Celebrating National Senior Center Month at the PAJ Center
Take history to heart at the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center. We will visit the museum to explore events leading to the Holocaust, hear survival stories, and find hope moving forward. The exhibit, Ghost Army: The Combat Con Artists of World War II tells the heroic tale of the top secret U.S. Army’s 23rd Headquarters Special Troops, known as the “Ghost Army,” and their covert operations across Europe that helped win the war, armed with nothing heavier than .50 caliber machine guns. This carefully selected group of artists, engineers, professional soldiers, and draftees (the first mobile, multimedia, tactical deception unit in U.S. Army history) which saved thousands of lives and played an important part in allied victory in World War II. After our visit, we will enjoy family style lunch at Maggiano’s Little Italy. The $97 fee includes museum and exhibits, lunch, and round-trip transportation. This trip departs at 9:00 am. and will return after 3:00 pm.

We are only a few days away from our Annual 5K Walk for Seniors! We will conclude our Picnic in the Park Series with our Walk for Seniors celebration on Saturday, September 10th at 10:00am. Registration begins at 9:00 am. Entertainment for the event will be The Southside Soul Kings from Chicago,TheIllinois.theme for this years event will be Rock & Stroll. It is a great opportunity to get together with friends, co workers, or acquaintances. Invite everyone to the most philanthropic event you’ll ever walk. You still have time to register for the event in person or online. This year we have a 5K Walk to Win Team Challenge. You can get a group of friends family, coworkers or church members together to form a team for the 2022 Rock & Stroll Challenge. Let’s see if your team has “what it takes” to take home the traveling Trophy that will be awarded each year giving your group bragging rights until the next year’s challenge. To qualify, each team member must register individually for $35 and list their team’s name. The team with the most registered walkers will be awarded the traveling Trophy. 9:45 am to 10:20 am Functional Fitness
Functional Fitness focuses on lower body strength, It helps with everyday movements such as bending down, squatting, reaching and lifting. Legs and shoulders are the primary focus of training. Participants should have weights, a resistance band, and should bring their own water.
Chair Workout Warrior focuses on upper body strength. It is great for participants needing to sit or hold on to a chair to exercise. Even with in a it will be challenging!

Matter of Balance is an on site eight week evidence based program which helps older adults reduce their fear of falling by learning to view falls as controllable. This program is specifically designed to reduce the fear of falling and improve activity levels among older adults. The program includes eight two hour classes presented to a small group of participants led by trained coaches. The program enables participants to set goals for increasing activity levels, making small changes to reduce fall risks at home, and exercise to increase strength and balance. Lollie Drew Low Vision group will meet each month to network and share information presented by speakers on topics relating to vision loss. As we navigate through this pandemic, this is an opportunity to gather and discuss the difficulties individuals have had making these adjustments.
