Dear Waukegan Township Family & Friends, There is so much to celebrate during the months of May and June - and not just the warm weather! May has been observed as “Older American Month”, This year’s theme, Age My Way, focuses on independent living and thriving in their communities. This month also recognizes the contributions of older adults across the nation. Memorial Day is Monday, May 30th. In honor of those brave men and women who sacrificed their lives to protect ours, we salute you - today and always! Although most of us may do so every day of the year, May also is the official month to honor those amazing women who gave us life, kissed our bumps and bruises and bandaged our scrapes and scratches. Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 8th, so be sure to send a little extra love and gratitude mom’s way. Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms! In June we will celebrate and honor the all of the fathers, grandfathers and others who have served as a father in any capacity. Father’s Day is Sunday, June19th this year and shares the spotlight with the newly recognized federal Juneteenth holiday - commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. As we recognize mothers, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who honored my mother, Supervisor Emeritus Patricia Jones, on Thursday, April 14th, as Park Place was officially renamed the Patricia A. Jones Center, in her honor. (Pictures of the event can be found on page 8) In the near future, there will be an opportunity for you to make history! There will be a $100 prize awarded to the winner of the Park Place Preview renaming contest. I, along with the Board of Trustee will select the winner. You don’t want to miss this! (More details can be found on page 4) Lastly, thank you to those who traveled with us to beautiful Charleston, South Carolina, as well as those who attended the book signing event, featuring our very own Rose McDonald’s first published work, “After All These Years”. (See page 2 for photos) Upcoming Events - SAVE THE DATES! We have numerous fun summer events coming to the Patricia A. Jones Center. Get ready for our annual Picnic in the Park summer concert series. These mini concerts will be held July 22nd, August 19th and conclude on September 10th, with our Annual Walk For Seniors celebration. Stay tuned for our special guest entertainment line up! Also, the Patricia A. Jones Center has partnered with the Waukegan Park District to hold our very first Pickle Ball Tournament on Saturday August 27th.
