Underground Railroad Tour of Bronzeville, Tuesday, February 15, 2022 Explore the history of the Underground Railroad in Chicago! The Bronzeville Historical Society presents this tour that includes narration of architectural highlights of buildings, churches and gravesites. Hear narratives of the efforts of abolitionists, union soldiers, and citizens from Chicago. Highlights include quilts, photographs, maps and biographies at selected sites. Trained tour guides will profile heroic freedom seekers.

Afterwards, we will enjoy lunch at Chicago’s Home of Chicken and Waffles. Bus departs Park Place at 8:00 a.m. and returns after 3:00 p.m. Fee of $95 includes transportation, tour, and meal.

Adler Planetarium, Tuesday, March 1, 2022 Escape the humdrum of winter by exploring space! Roll up your sleeves and let curiosity be your guide. At the Adler Planetarium, you’ll find hands-on, minds-on activities and explore mind-blowing facts about the universe. This trip includes two domed theaters, a selection of self-directed and staff-facilitated activities, 60,000 square feet of exhibitions and the Doane Observatory’s research-quality telescope, the Adler casts visitors in the role of scientist, engineer, astronaut, and creative problem solver. Explore the history of telescopes, marvel at the craftsmanship of the Adler’s extensive collection of antique astrolabes, or step inside Captain James A. Lovell Jr.’s personal journey into spacing in Mission Moon. A self-guided tour of the Adler, two shows, and lunch on your own in Galileo’s Café. Mitchell Domes Conservatory and Pub Lunch, Tuesday, March 15, 2022 Break out of your winter blues at Mitchell Conservatory! Enjoy a guided tour of the Mitchell Domes, Arrid, Tropical and Show Dome before enjoying authentic pub food at Sobelman’s Pub and Grill. Sobelman’s boasts a full menu including “the Best Burger in Milwaukee”. A fee of $62 includes tour, lunch, and transportation. Bus departs Park Place at 9:00 a.m. Returns at approximately 3:00 p.m.

Teatro Zin Zanni Wednesday, April 27, 2022 Teatro Zin Zanni’s main event is part circus, part cabaret, and always magical. Described as “the Kit Kat Klub on acid” Teatro ZinZanni is a night out unlike any other. The everevolving and constantly changing production, combines improv comedy, vaudeville revue, music, dance, cirque, and sensuality into a dizzying and colorful new form that is never quite the same from evening to evening. Famous for its intimate setting, the fast-paced action of the show, unfolds above, around, and even alongside you as you dine on a gourmet meal. The fee of $187 includes premier perimeter level seating, a multi-course meal, and transportation. Bus departs at 4:15 p.m. and will return after 10:00 p.m.

2021 AARP Tax Preparation

Benefit Access:

AARP Tax Prep are available carhop style. Regular appointments will be Tuesdays & Thursdays starting Tuesday, February 15, 2022.

AARP Scheduling Process: 1. Clients contact Park Place at 847-244-9242 to make an appointment with staff.

2. Clients must stop by Park Place to pick up their tax form. All forms must be completed prior to their scheduled appointment.

Note: All documents will be kept outside of the building in a designated box.

3. Clients will park in a designated parking location prior to their appointment time (no earlier than 10 minutes prior to the appointment).

4. Prior to the appointment, the client must call the number provided to them by AARP. S. The AARP volunteer will collect all documents from the client. All clients are to remain in their vehicle. Please do not exit your vehicle.

6. The AARP volunteer will scan the documents and call the client with additional questions.

7. The AARP volunteer will return the documents to the client.

8. All clients are free to leave Park Place.

9. All clients will return to Park Place on the day designated by AARP to complete signing of the documents.

The township is responsible for assessing (placing a value) on all property for tax purposes, appraising it at its fair market value.

There are four different types of exemptions also available that reduce or defer an increase in the equalized value of your property. The net effect of these exemptions is to lower the assessed valuation to which the tax rate is then applied. The qualifications and application procedures vary for each program. You must own the property and it must be your primary residence to qualify for any of these exemptions.

GENERAL HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION This exemption lowers the equalized assessed value of your property by $6,000.00. To receive this exemption, you must: • Have lived on the property on or before January 1st of the tax year.

• The Township Assessor’s office initiates this exemption.

HOMESTEAD IMPROVEMENT EXEMPTION This exemption defers for four years any increase in the assessment of your property due to an addition or other improvement to your home for which the Township Assessor would add value.

A maximum of $25,000.00 of assessed value may be deferred under this program.

SENIOR HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION This exemption lowers the equalized assessed value of your property by $5,000.00, and may be claimed in addition to the General Homestead Exemption. To receive this exemption, you must: • Have lived on the property on or before January 1st of the tax year.

• Have reached age 65 during the tax year.

Apply for the exemption at the Township Assessor’s office. Please provide a copy of the deed to the property and proof of age when you apply. If the property is held in trust, you will also need a copy of the trust agreement indicating the beneficiary and signature page.

SENIOR CITIZENS ASSESSMENT FREEZE HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION This exemption freezes the assessment on your property but does not freeze the tax rate. This exemption may be claimed in addition to those described above. You need to understand that the actual taxes that you pay may continue to increase based upon the amounts levied by the taxing bodies where you reside (school districts, park district, village or city, township, etc.) The filing deadline for this exemption is typically mid-September of each year. To receive this exemption, you must: • Have fulfilled a property residency requirement as explained on the application form.

• Be age 65 or older.

• Have a maximum household income of $65,000. This household income includes that of all persons using the property as their principal dwelling place on January 1st of the tax year.

• Obtain an application for the exemption at the Township Assessor’s Office. Your completed application must be notarized and returned to: Chief County Assessment Office, 18 N. County Street, Waukegan, IL 60085 NOTE: This exemption must be renewed annually.

Other exemptions available through the Chief County Assessment Office include: • Disabled Veterans' Standard Homestead Exemption • Disabled Veterans’ Exemption • Returning Veterans' Homestead Exemption • Disabled Persons' Homestead Exemption • Deferral through Lake County Treasurer • Senior Citizens’ Tax Deferral Program For an explanation of the assessment process or to view comparable properties, please go to assessor.lakecountyil.gov.

Class Details Total Body Blast

Total Body Blast is a quick-paced resistance training class. Participants should have a chair and 1 of the following: weights, a water bottle, two cans, or a resistance band.

Serenity Stretch

Serenity Stretch is a stretch class for loosening tight muscles and improving range of motion. A yoga strap, a long belt, or a long towel would be helpful for increasing flexibility.

Chair Workout

Chair Workout Warrior focuses on upper body strength. It is great for participants needing to sit or hold on to a chair to exercise. The class will be challenging! Participants should have weights, a resistance band, and should bring their own water.

Warrior Functional Fitness

Cardio Circuit Training

Functional Fitness focuses on lower body strength, It helps with everyday movements such as bending down, squatting, reaching and lifting. Legs and shoulders are the primary focus of training. Participants should have weights, a resistance band, and should bring their own water.

Quick paced aerobic and resistance training class. Circuits consist of 3-6 exercises performed vertical style. Al lease 3 circuits will be done each class. Participants should have weights , a resistance band, and should bring their own water.

Bingocize® is an evidence-based health promotion program approved through both SNAP-Ed and The National Council on Aging (NCOA). Bingocize® combines exercise and health information with the familiar game of bingo, which is a great, fun way to get older adults moving and socializing. This program will run for 10 consecutive weeks. Start date will be March 15th, every Tuesday and Thursday at 2:00pm. Max participation is 20 individuals. Join us for prizes, exercise and fun. Participants must commit to the entire 10 week program. Isolation Impacts Everyone: Here's How to Assess Your Risk You may be experiencing isolation fatigue from hearing so much about social isolation. This is a real problem, impacting seniors at a high rate.

One of the latest studies published in JAMA Internal Medicine says that homebound seniors aged 70 and older more than doubled, from 5% between 2011 and 2019 to 13% in 2020. According to researchers, the numbers of homebound seniors – would likely remain elevated through 2021 due to the pandemic.

• Two-thirds of U.S. adults report experiencing social isolation, and more than half (66%) agree that the COVID 19 pandemic has caused their anxiety level to increase, yet many aren't turning to anyone for help.

• Social isolation can have a greater impact on one's health than obesity. The health risks of prolonged isolation are equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes a day.

• Among women 50 and older, almost a third (29%) report going as long as one to three months not interacting with others outside their home or workplace during the pandemic. They're also more likely to experience negative emotions than their male cohorts.

The assessment questions are pretty straightforward and the questions actually imply the answers. Here are a few examples.

1. Do you participate in social activities?

2. Do you regularly see or talk to a family member or a friend?

3. Do you have access to transportation?

4. Is it difficult or impossible to leave your home without assistance?

5. Do you avoid socializing because it's hard for you to understand conversations?

6. In the last 6 months, have you experienced a major loss or change?
