Park Place distributes over 8000 Safety Kits to the residents of Waukegan Township

Waukegan Township is proud to announce that Patricia Jones, M. Ed from April of 2020 through February of 2021, we Supervisor have successfully distributed over 8,000 safety kits to the residents of Waukegan Township! Over the past months, we know that COVID-19 has put a strain on personal protective equipment (PPE). We are also aware that the supply of PPE has improved since this spring, for which we are grateful. This has made it easier for Waukegan Township to continue working towards our goal of assisting in maintaining the safety of seniors throughout our community. Many of our distributions included masks, gloves, hand sanitizer, fruit and lunch. We hope our approach; whether drive through, apartment complex distribution or home delivery, has helped each one of you. We thank our community partners and will continue providing these needed services for the months to come. We understand how important it is to supply these lifesaving items; if you find yourself in need of any (PPE) products, feel free to contact us as 847-244-9242. We will do our best to assist you in securing needed items. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our many partners for their assistance. As development of and protocols for the vaccine distribution are still underway, we will continue to assist where we can, until we are out of this pandemic. Remember to stay home when possible, wear a mask, wash your hands, and stay six feet apart. What we’ve been up to: The staff at Park Place can’t wait until were able to open our doors and see each and every smiling face coming through. We have been closed since March 13, 2020, but have had periods when we have opened with limited participation in an effort to protect the safety and wellbeing of our seniors. Each closing was also due to a regulation mandated by the State of Illinois. Please know that the staff has been busy printing our monthly taxi-tickets, providing week day medical transportation to dialysis clients only, preparing our bimonthly newsletter, processing Benefit Access applications, and assisting with Senior Health Insurance enrollment. I hope many of you have enjoyed the periodic wellbeing calls that have been made to all the seniors in our community. If you have not received one of our calls, please contact us at 847-244-9242 and have your information updated in our system. We would love to speak with you. Park Place has also been busy sprucing up the place.

Greetings! I’m Adriane Johnson, your new state senator, and I am so honored and humbled to serve the residents of the 30th Senate District, both in Springfield and right here at home. Shortly after being sworn-in on October 11th, I received one of the grandest welcomes from the Waukegan Township, that I will cherish for years to come! Thank you, Township Supervisor Patricia Jones, the dynamic Waukegan Township Board and staff, community leaders and residents for your warm welcome; for your open arms, your open hearts and your open doors. As one of the premier townships in Illinois, Waukegan Township, offers a myriad of services, programs and facilities to ensure the well-being of residents and addressing their most pressing needs. Many of my key priorities are in alignment with Waukegan Township. My focus is on supporting the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus’ four pillars including; criminal justice reform, violence reduction and
police accountability, education and workforce development, economic access, equity and opportunity, healthcare and human services as well as protecting our environment and open spaces, COVID-19 relief and supporting the business community. It is a privilege to build on my public service, especially during these challenging times. Putting service above self is not only my commitment as a Rotarian, but it encapsulates the essence of who I am as a leader and a public servant. I am so excited to continue my service through serving as your state
senator. I vow to always listen to your concerns and keep your needs and best interests in the forefront of my mind. Taking Care of Your Mental Health During This Pandemic The Coronavirus pandemic has been stressful for many people. Fear and anxiety about a new disease and what could happen can be overwhelming and cause strong emotions in adults and seniors. Social distancing can make people feel isolated and lonely and can increase stress and anxiety. However, these actions are necessary to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Coping with stress in a healthy way will make you and the people you care about and your community stronger. Stress during an outbreak can sometimes cause the following: • Fear and worry about your own health and the health of your loved ones, your financial situation or job, or loss of support services you rely on. • Changes in sleep or eating patterns. • Difficulty sleeping or concentrating. • Worsening of chronic health problems. • Worsening of mental health conditions. • Increased use of tobacco/alcohol and other substances. Park Place Fitness Join Park Place as we welcome Mrs. Kaneicia Brown as the newest Fitness Coordinator for Park Place. Mrs. Brown is a dedicated, results-oriented instructor with a proven record in motivating everyone to achieve all fitness and personal goals. Kaneicia has taught Aerobics, Strength and Balance classes and is a certified Silver Sneakers and Flex Instructor for Tivity Health.
She has assisted with high school track & field, girls junior varsity basketball and played women’s college and semi pro basketball. She is a Certified Level 1 Nutrition Coach, Weight Loss Specialist, Corrective Exercise Specialist, classic aerobic, strength training instructor, and a Certified Personal Trainer. Virtual exercise classes are presented via Zoom. Many participate for a “virtual” 30 min work-out experience.

The Illinois Department on Aging Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP) SHIP is a free counseling service provided by the Illinois Department on Aging SHIP does not sell or solicit insurance SHIP counselors can answer questions about: • Medicare • Prescription Drug Coverage through Medicare and other sources • Extra Help from Social Security for prescription drug costs • Long-term Care Insurance Park Place provides assistance with any questions pertaining to Medicare Parts A, B, C & D. The updated 2021 Equalization Factors are posted to the Lake County Government website. These include all sales through the month of November 2020. Please visit https://www.lakecountyil.gov/389/Equalization-Factors. Sales ratios have been updated. A final update to the equalization figures will post once the balance of the 2020 sales have been entered. Please note that Lake County will not be subject to a State Equalization Factor this year. Finally, I’d like to share some information received from John Murray, Senior Veteran Service Officer with the Veterans Assistance Commission of Lake County VA: •
Veterans and spouses must call 1-800-827-1000, the VA Hotline/Chicago Regional Office (CRO) to obtain copies of their service connected disability letters either by fax or mail.
