Latest Executive Orders Related to COVID-19 STATE FAIRS ORDER #42 Cancels the State Fairs in Springfield and DuQuoin scheduled for 2020, to protect the health and safety of fairgoers, entertainers, competitors, vendors, employees, and those living in the surrounding areas. LIMITED REOPENING OF SCHOOLS ORDER #40 All public and nonpublic schools in Illinois serving pre-kindergarten through 12th grade students may open for limited in-person educational purposes, such as summer school, after the regular 2019-2020 school term. Schools must follow IDPH guidance and all schools may continue to provide food and other non-educational services.
Voting by mail is an option for voters to cast their ballot prior to Election Day. Voters can request a vote by mail ballot through the mail or in person. The first day to file an application for a vote by mail ballot with the Election Authority was 6/16/2020. All requests by mail must be received by the Election Authority by 10/29/2020. All in-person early voting requests must be made by 11/2/2020. Additional provisions and requirements apply to Military and Overseas Citizens. For more information visit www.elections.il.gov.
Unemployment Insurance and COVID-19 The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on the United States economy, leading to an unprecedented number of unemployment claims. Through the five weeks from March 1 to April 4, Illinois received 513,173 initial unemployment claims. That is greater than the total number of initial claims for the entirety of 2019 (489,831) and five times greater than the claims filed in the first five weeks of the 2008 great recession. AARP has cancelled all sponsored in-person events through the end of 2020.
