Volume 33, Issue 1 Dear Friends, Being well-informed can save you money and in some cases literally save your life. Medicare Part B premiums for 30% of Medicare recipients will jump next year, but not as high as they would have without the budget deal passed late last month. While 70% of Medicare beneficiaries will have their premiums held to the same $104.90 per person, paid in 2015, 30% will face a 16% increase in their base premium from Patricia Jones, M. Ed $104.90 to $121.80 per person per month. And Waukegan Township Supervisor the 5% of beneficiaries who pay an income 847-244-4900 pjones724@waukegantownship.com surcharge, will pay a 16% increase in that surcharge, along with paying the higher base. There is good news! The "hold harmless provision" in the Social Security Act disallows an increase in the Medicare Part B premium for qualifying Social Security recipients if their COLA is not large enough to cover the increase in the Part B premium. Who may see an increase in their 2016 premium? Anyone new to Medicare, those with income related premium, those not having premiums deducted from Social Security check, and anyone who loses their Medicare Savings Program.
