WRG Christmas Camp - and look ahead to the Clean Up
Coming soon...
Winter camps, barn dance,
WRG Reunion Bonfire Bash: 4-5 November - sorry, you’re too late!
Yes, I’m afraid that as we went to press the last handful of places on our big dig on the
Uttoxeter were rapidly being booked up. With a strict limit on the number we can fit in the
accommodation it was looking like it would be full up before this appears in print. Feel free to contact Head Office just in case there’s been a cancellation, but don’t be too optimistic...
KESCRG / London WRG Christmas dig: 2-3 December, Cotswold Canals
As usual, two of the main mobile working party groups based in the south of England will be getting together for a big working party and Christmas party on the first weekend in December. But it isn’t only open to volunteers from these groups: anyone is welcome to come. This year it’s being hosted by the Cotswold Canals, and work is likely to be concentrated on the west end of the waterway at Whitminster. We’ll be carrying out initial scrub clearance of a length that’s about to be the subject of a re-submitted Lottery funding bid aimed at getting the canal open from Saul through Stroud within the next five years.
To book, just contact either the London WRG or KESCRG contacts on the Diary pages
(p24-25) or see either group’s Facebook page. And we might even have decided what the Fancy Dress theme for the Saturday night party is by the time this is printed...
WRG Christmas Canal Camp: 26 December - 1 January
We can confirm that this will also be on the Cotswold Canals again this year, that once agai
Dave ‘Moose’ Hearnden will be leading with Maria Hearnden in charge of the kitchen, and the work on site will involve scrub-bashing with bonfires. Book this via Head Office as usual for canal camps.
WRG BITM Christmas Camp, Wilts & Berks Canal 26 Dec - 1 Jan
Our WRG BITM regional group will also be holding a festive canal camp, once again on the Wilts & Berks Canal at Dauntsey. Leader is Rachael Banyard; for information and bookings contact Dave Wedd on 07816-175454 or bookings@wrgbitm.org.uk.
Dates for your 2018 diaries
Looking further ahead into 2018, and there’s an important date on the WRG Social calendar -
let’s hear from Sarah Frayne...
The Barn Dance is coming back to Rowington on Saturday 10 th March 2018. We will be
inviting a new band to come along and help us a dance up a storm, so come and show your support and your best moves! Raffle, dining and drinks as usual. See you there!
There are also several events being organised under the auspices of the Inland Waterways Association’s Restoration Hub which WRG folks might be interested in - see page 45.
There’s also the WRG Leader Training Day on Saturday 12 May, also at Rowington Village Hall.
