Canalway Cavalcade CANALWAY CAVALCADE is a major event in the national canal calendar. Organised by IWA volunteers annually since 1983, it now always takes place over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend 3rd to 5th May at Little Venice in Paddington, the capital’s most iconic canal venue, and one of its major tourist attractions. It combines a boaters’ gathering with a trade show and a wide range of activities, attractions and delicious food stalls - extending along Warwick Crescent and the towpaths towards Paddington Station, onto the Paddington Stone Wharf and in Rembrandt Gardens.
Boats About 150 boats are likely to attend and will moor in or adjacent to the Pool of Little Venice and towards Paddington station. During the event, visitors see the area at its best, full of colourful boats decked with bunting, creating a marvellous spectacle. A wide diversity of boats is always represented, including historic canal working boats, holiday and residential narrowboats and cruisers.
competitions, guided walks, boat trips by various operators, food stalls and a licensed bar, a trade and craft show, music of all kinds, theatre and puppets on the barge May Brent in The Pool. Children’s activities range from kayaking to a Teddy Bears’ Picnic and Punch & Judy in Rembrandt Gardens. There will be a themed pageant of decorated boats, a procession of illuminated boats and a parade of historic and working craft.
Trade & Craft Shows The trade and craft show, along Warwick Crescent and the towpaths, is always lively and well patronised and our traders wouldn’t miss the event for anything. So come on down and join in the fun!
