This fall sees brand new 3D printers and laptops arrive to the Ticonic Classroom, enabling major advances to our 3D printing programs. Visitors of all ages will have ample opportunities to get creative with this exciting technology in the coming months, including a series of classes in October and November.

The Maine Film Center has lined up some real crowd-pleasers with Coraline in the lead-up to Halloween, an all-day Star Wars marathon, and the quintessential New Years Eve movie, When Harry Met Sally… The family-friendly Fireflies film series also returns this fall with some eye-catching titles for kids.

I’m particularly excited for our fourth and final show of the Waterville Opera House’s 2024 theatrical season, The SpongeBob Musical. We close our season with a bang—an all-singing, all-dancing, laugh-out-loud underwater romp. I hope to see you at the Opera House November 22–December 1!

Whether you are coming back for more of something you already love or trying out something new to you, we are here for you and we thank you for being here for us.

What does a “typical” day look like for you?

Every day is different and there are a variety of tasks and responsibilities. Generally a day might include communicating with a tour manager of an upcoming concert and coordinating with personnel for events. Preparing and managing the stage and gear that will be used for each event is always on the agenda. Additional tasks include repairs and maintenance of equipment or the facility. Depending on the type of event in the pipeline I might be in the shop all day assisting with the set build, or painting, or helping to build props. During the events I could be hitting light cues, assisting with stage needs, or most likely running the sound board.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Working in the performing arts is always rewarding! I enjoy collaborating with the artists that perform in this space as well as working with a tight team of dedicated and passionate theatre technicians. Some of my proudest moments are doing the live sound mixing of great bands and feeling I have contributed to the audience’s enjoyment of a fantastic concert. Facilitating the execution of an artist’s vision, be it a musician playing a guitar, or dancer in a recital, or actors in our theatrical productions, is satisfying in many ways.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Nothing compares to a great strike! I love the satisfying reward of tearing stuff down after a successful event and sharing that with the people who made it happen. Also, a perfectly ripe mango purchased from a wheelbarrow seller on a remote beach followed by a salty margarita and fresh aguachiles is true bliss!

Can you recommend a play, musical, or movie experience to our readers?

There is a show for everyone here at the Opera House and MFC. I am really looking forward to Cirque Kalabanté. This promises to be a unique experience.
