ednesday nights at Stonewall Bar is Bearaoke; this week will see a special pirate-themed edition at 10 p.m. Bear Bash, which throws its own furfilled weekend in September, hosts the Booty Call Underwear Party at Pirates Dinner Theater Thursday night at 10 p.m. The biggest bear event of the weekend is Friday’s Tidal Wave party at Wet ‘n Wild. Over 1,000 bears, cubs, and more take over the I-Drive water park at 6 p.m. for this exclusive event, featuring music by DJ Cap’n Kirk. Expect to see a lot of bears, too, at Saturday night’s leather-and-fetish Thrust party at the Hotel Royal Plaza at 10 p.m.

Two groups will be offering day and evening pool parties throughout the weekend. Bear soup will be made by GayDayS Bears at the Doubletree by Hilton Orlando at SeaWorld, and also by the Tidal Wave Weekend group at the Hotel Royal Plaza.

There’s also a traditional Bear Meet-Up on Saturday at the Magic Kingdom, with several mass viewings of Frontier Land’s Country Bear Jamboree at 1 p.m.

hile adult beverage sales go hand-inhand with nearly every event of the weekend, Gay Day itself is alcoholfree. There’s been no beer or wine sold at the Magic Kingdom since it opened in 1971.

But for some gays and lesbians attending GD2012 events, the weekend’s not all about drinking, or even partying; it’s the opposite.

Gays and lesbians in 12-step recovery programs will have numerous program meetings available to stay safe and sober away from home.

The We Are Not Saints Roundup offers support to gay men and women in recovery through educational programs and other activities throughout the weekend. All fellowships are welcomed, and past years’ roundups have included the participation of Crystal Meth Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Al-Anon and other 12-Step Programs.

Both groups kick off their respective series of splash bashes on Thursday.

Our eye in the sky says to expect a Traffic Jam Thursday night at 10 p.m. at the Funky Monkey Wine Company at Pointe Orlando. This party, hosted by Pandora Events and Phish Phest Entertainment, allows women to send signals via red, yellow, and green glow necklaces.

The National Center for Lesbian Rights hosts a Welcome Cocktail Reception Friday at 5 p.m. at the Marriott Village LBV with live music by Melissa Crispo and Toni Williams. Also on Friday at 5 p.m., fluorescent body paints and cocktails will flow at the Pirate Paint & Glow Party. Held at the Doubletree

During Saturday’s Gay Day at the Magic Kingdom, women traditionally turn the Walt Disney World Railroad into the Lesbian Express at 1 p.m. The trip starts at the Main Street.

U.S.A., Station in Town Square and offers a 20-minute, 1.5 mile round-trip view of the park.

Girls in Wonderland return to Downtown Disney on Saturday night for their signature event at the House of Blues. Dana Goldberg takies her audience Out for Laughs st 7:30 p.m., then at 9 p.m., Girls in Wonderland 11 will see a sell-out crowd of 2,500 attend what is traditionally the weekend’s largest event for women. In town is Revolution Nightclub’s weekly Saturday women’s night, featuring a special appearance by Romi & Rose. The evening closes in the Rabbit Hole, an after-hours party at the Marriott Village LBV that kicks off at 2 a.m.

Sunday finds popular women’s music duo Halcyon appearing in concert at 6 p.m. at Kitty O’Shea’s Irish Pub. This closing weekend party will also feature performances by All The Pretty Cars and Purdy Mouth, as well as a karaoke contest.

he original mass gathering of LGBTs in a theme park, Gay Day at the Magic Kingdom, has spawned similar outings not only at the Disney’s other theme parks, but at amusement parks across the globe. And nearly all of them also encourage the wearing of red T-shirts!

Though there’s little “official” about this very unofficial outing there are some traditions that have carried on year after year:

11 a.m. LGBT Youth Fantasyland Entrance behind Cinderella’s Castle Gay and lesbian youth groups have been known to meet here to make the day more special.

12 p.m.

Pre-parade Cocktail Break Outer Rim Lounge, Contemporary Resort Sometimes you need a cooling-off cocktail, and since none can be had inside the Magic Kingdom, this is the place to go.

1 p.m. Lesbian Express Town Square Show up early at the Main Street Railroad station for a full roundtrip view of the park.

1 p.m. Annual Bear Gathering Country Bear Jamboree The ursine set traditionally meets at the Frontier Land show for fun, fur and frolic.

1 p.m. Leather Pirates of the Caribbean Pirates of the Caribbean A group ride for leather lovers.

3 p.m. Parade Cinderella’s Castle, Magic Kingdom It’s as close to a Pride parade as you’ll ever get in a theme park. Though the route will be lined with red shirts, the deepest concentration of LGBTs will be in front of Cinderella’s Castle and on Main Street.

t wouldn’t be a Big Gay Weekend without a few men in dresses! The art of drag performance crosses a wide variety of forms—from comedy, to lip-syncing, and occasionally even live singing. GD2012 Weekend will see them all!

Ham-Bingo is one of Hamburger Mary’s most popular weekly events.

Miss Sammy and Carol Lee call the balls on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Church Street Station hangout. Wednesday at the Parliament House sees two drag events: first is the Miss Comedy Queen Revue Show featuring past title holders reuniting on stage at 9 p.m. Second is Camp Drag, which sees average Joes and Janes compete in a very different kind of drag race at 11 p.m. Camp Drag is hosted by Gidget Galore, who returns to the P House Thursday at 5:30 p.m. for her Big Gay Game Show.

Much like the moon, the stars, vampires, and Lindsay Lohan (unless she has a court appearance), drag queens typically only come out at night. But not this week! Gidget Galore brings her Big Gay Game Show games outside to the Parliament House pool deck

from 2-4 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

The stars do come out, or at least some pretty darn good facsimiles, during Saturday night’s Illusions in Review celebrity impersonation shows at Hamburger Mary’s. Hosted by local legend Leigh Shannon, the shows are at 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., and reservations are highly recommended.

Orlando’s nightclubs will feature performances from each of their respective bevies of beauties, but some will see special guest appearances as well. Pulse welcomes drag comedian Sherry Vine on Saturday, while the Parliament House sees the return of Nina Flowers from RuPaul’s Drag Race and former Footlight Player Armani.

And in case you like your drag flip-flopped, there are sure to be several drag kings performing at the various women’s events throughout the weekend.
