COVID19 stopped most of the planned activities for kids this year but the Youth Committee at WAL decided to do what it could to keep our kids' scientific curiosity going. Pandemic notwithstanding, the annual Spooky Mad Science Expo, commemorating science and Halloween, will take place this year on Saturday, October 17 from 4 – 7 p.m. Due to capacity limits, advanced registration for participants is mandatory. You can sign up in the Activities Office.
Some of our larger participants, which are part of the federal government, are unable to attend this year due to current regulations. So, we’ve found new, interesting, and fun exhibitors and instructors for this event. For instance. the American Institute of Architects in Northern Virginia (AIA) will appear for the first time with a Scrap City activity.
We will fully observe the City of Alexandria’s COVID-19 rules based on the phase we are in at the time of our event. We must accommodate fewer kids, putting them in groups, while maintaining social distancing. Teen volunteers will repeatedly sanitize the areas.
Each year, we ask for our neighbors’ involvement. Please let me know if you would like to do an exhibition, teach something, or help in any way. Our teens will get a volunteer certificate.
