Residents are reminded that there are locations where items not accepted at WAL, can be taken to recycling locations within the City of Alexandria, and it’s free Here are some of the things that are accepted by the City For a complete list of items, go to the corresponding website shown below: www.alexandriava.gov/waste/recycling-drop-off-centers
Glass Recycling

Glass should not be placed in the WAL recycling bins. There are several drop-off locations where there are purple containers for glass recycling. Check the website for additional items that can be placed at these locations (i.e., cardboard boxes. paper, aluminum cans, etc.).

The City of Alexandria household hazardous and electronic collection center is at 3224 Colvin Street The hours are Monday, 7:30 a m to 3:30 p m , and Saturday, 7:30 a m to 3:30 p m The recycling center is free to all City of Alexandria residents
Auto Cleaning Products, Car Batteries, Fluorescent Light Bulbs, Oil-based Paints*, Lacquers, Spray Can Paint, Thinners, Fire Extinguishers, Household Cleaning Products, Household Batteries**, Flammable Caulks & Adhesives, Mercury Thermostats & Thermometers, Garden Products, Herbicides, Pesticides, Ant Bait and Traps, Rodent Control Products, Insect Spray Cans, Pet Supplies, etc.
Water-based paints (Latex) are not considered hazardous. DRIED paint cans can be disposed of in regular trash.
Household alkaline batteries (AA, AAA) can be disposed of in regular trash. Please visit the website for a complete list.
Acceptable Electronics:
The City is not responsible for deleting computer hard drives or memories. Go to the website above for a complete list of items. Some of the items that can be accepted are:
Calculators, CD-ROM/DVD Drives, Memory & Circuit Boards, PCs/Laptops/Notebooks, Cell phones & PDAs, Stereos & Speakers, Monitors (LCD, Plasma & CRT), All Computer Peripherals, Video & Audio Equipment, Keyboards, Mice, Cables, External Drives, Wires/Cables/Extension Cords, Televisions, All Rechargeable & Button Batteries, Desktop printers (laser & inkjet) their cartridges, Storage Media* and their cases: (DVD’s, CD’s, ZIP, Floppy Disks, Etc ), LED bulbs, Digital Cameras, etc
