Introduction to Hispanic Culture: Daily Life and Travel

DESCRIPTION OF COURSE

The Introduction to Hispanic Culture courses are classes for students interested in the culture and language but are not yet ready for the Spanish 1-5 sequence.

Culture shapes our view of the world. In this semester course, students will get an inside look at the culture of the people of the Spanish speaking world. Students will explore culture through geography, daily activities, food, transportation and travel. This course is designed to build realworld skills for non-Spanish speaking students to be able to make their way around a Spanishspeaking country. Students will study cultural customs and necessary vocabulary in order to order food, shop, utilize different modes of transportation and plan a trip. Students will also be able to exchange pleasantries with Spanish speakers. Helping students to acquire functional language to recognize and use will be part of what this course offers. No previous study of Spanish is needed.
