WFD 70th year
WASLI online conference
WASLI were delighted to be able to join the WFD in celebrating their 70th anniversary. We were invited to join the WFD President dr. Joe Murray on a panel regarding ‘Organising synergies between National Association of the Deaf and National Sign Language Interpreter Associations’.
July 9-11 2021 WASLI is planning an online event to bring our global interpreting community together.
We were joined by Profs Ronice Quadros de Müller and Marianne Stumpf who had previously presented at the WASLI 2019 conference in Paris. They discussed collaboration between deaf community representatives, interpreter profession representatives and academics to in uence government, interpreter training, and access.
We aim to have an opportunity for interpreters from different regions to meet and socialise. We will also be sending out a call for papers for presenters to present on relevant issues addressing the theme:
We were also joined by Laura Lesmana Wijaya from Indonesia and Samuel Muana from Rwanda, who gave perspectives on working with National Deaf Associations It was great to continue our fruitful collaboration with the WFD. We are currently looking at updating our Cooperation Agreement to ensure that it remains relevant.
