APRIL NEWS

March was a whirlwind of activity! It kicked off with a celebratory ribbon cutting, and our preparation space soon became a repository for an avalanche of relocation guides. The month culminated in a productive trip to Juneau, where we engaged with legislators to advocate for our community and the Chamber's priorities. April promises no respite, as we dive headlong into the second quarter with a series of impactful events. The State of the City address on April 2nd marks the beginning, while the Mat-Su Regional Spring Economic Summit at month's end signifies our ongoing commitment to regional development.

Looking slightly further ahead, May brings the excitement of our Spring Raffle and the 28th Annual Military Appreciation Lunch. This latter event is a heartfelt tribute to our armed forces, fostering stronger ties within our community through recognition and appreciation.

I also wish to extend my sincere gratitude to all who participated in our 2024 Member Benchmarking Survey. As the Board embarks on drafting the Wasilla Chamber's inaugural Strategic Plan, your insights are invaluable. Your feedback doesn't just inform our strategic direction—it influences our daily operations, ensuring we remain aligned with the needs and aspirations of our members.

Your involvement is the cornerstone of our efforts to enrich Wasilla's business landscape and communal life. Thank you for your ongoing support and for joining us on this journey toward securing a thriving and dynamic future for Wasilla.

Our 2024 Annual Membership Meeting was an unforgettable evening, brimming with festivities that celebrated both our vibrant organization and our esteemed members. It's clear: without our members, there would be no celebration, and it's a joy to honor this community that forms the backbone of our Chamber.

The night was highlighted by the presentation of Milestone Anniversary Awards, alongside the eagerly anticipated Small Business, Large Business, and Non-Profit of the Year Awards. These moments were filled with joy and recognition, celebrating the achievements within our community.

We took a moment to reflect on the Chamber's journey, hinting at the exciting directions we're headed. We unveiled projects that have been brewing behind the scenes—initiatives we are eager to launch and share with you. It was a night to recount our collective successes, a testament to what we can achieve together. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made the evening special by joining us at the scenic Meier Lake, and our deepest gratitude to Meier Lake for their gracious hospitality.

ADVOCACY IN ACTION

The Wasilla Chamber’s recent advocacy journey to Juneau, led by Wasilla Chamber CEO Jessica Viera and Government Affairs Chair Jackie Kenshalo, marked a significant stride in our mission to champion the interests of our community and the Chamber at the state legislature.

Throughout their visit, Jessica and Jackie engaged in meaningful dialogue with influential lawmakers, delving into a spectrum of critical issues. Their discussions spanned economic development, infrastructure enhancement, and vital policy measures impacting both our local businesses and the wider community.

A highlight of their trip was an unplanned yet fruitful encounter with delegates from the Mat-Su Borough, who happened to be in Juneau at the same time. This fortunate meeting enabled an exchange of insights and concerns, cementing a united front on issues affecting our region and paving the way for collaborative solutions to shared challenges.

This venture into Juneau served as a vital step in amplifying our collective voice at the state level, ensuring that the unique perspectives and needs of the Wasilla Chamber and its stakeholders are acknowledged and considered in legislative arenas.
