AUGUST NEWS

July was a quiet month meeting wise but your Chamber staff was busy preparing for the second half of our year! We are preparing for our LAST Last Ball of the Season Golf Tournament coming up in just a few weeks! We have a few sponsorships remaining so give us a call if you are interested in being a sponsor for this event. We also have some room for additional teams if you want to spend a fun-filled day out of the office getting some great networking in! We’ve had a great year of luncheons so far - our speakers have informed us, educated us on ways to help our business, and connected us with resources in the community. If you haven’t joined us for a luncheon in a while, be sure to check our calendar for upcoming speakers and join us the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays from Noon to 1 PM at Evangelo’s! Be sure to pre-register on our website so we can ensure enough seating and lunch for all. We have a fall filled with great events and opportunities for our members. If you are unsure of the best ways to utilize your chamber membership, give us a call and we can help you make the most of your membership. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to the Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce. Here’s to a fantastic second half of 2024!

UPCOMING LUNCHEONS

The first half of 2024 has been a dynamic and successful period for the Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce, marked by a series of impactful events and initiatives that have strengthened our community and bolstered local businesses. Here's a look back at our major accomplishments and key events from the first and second quarters:

Love Local

Kicking off the year with enthusiasm, the Love Local event was a resounding success. Held in February, this event celebrated the heart and soul of our community—our local businesses. Love Lcoal aims to connect residents with local businesses and to encourage them to shop locally, and it did just that. The participation from businesses and the community was overwhelming, resulting in a significant boost in local commerce and fostering a renewed sense of community spirit. Annual

Membership Meeting

Our Annual Membership Meeting, held in March, was another highlight of the first quarter. It was an opportunity for members to come together, reflect on the past year, and set the stage for the future. The highlight of our Annual Memebership Meeting always being our Annual Member Awards, a great time was had by all at the beautiful Meier Lake Resort.

28th Annual Military Appreciation Lunch

In May, we hosted the 28th Annual Military Appreciation Lunch, an event that holds a special place in our hearts. This year's lunch was particularly memorable, and while the weather may have been a bit brisk and damp, the event honored the dedication and sacrifice of our military community, and featured inspiring speeches, heartfelt tributes, and a fun new twist on Alaskan Military history.

The support from local businesses and volunteers was instrumental in making this event a significant success.

Mat-Su Regional Spring Economic Summit

A milestone partnership event for the Chamber, the City of Wasilla, and the Matanuska Susitna Borough, the first-ever Mat-Su Regional Spring Economic Summit, took place in April. This groundbreaking event brought together leaders from various sectors to discuss economic trends, opportunities, and challenges facing the Mat-Su Valley. Day one of the summit featured expert panels, keynote speakers, and networking sessions, providing invaluable insights and fostering collaboration across the region. Day two took us on a tour of some of the major economic drivers for our region: The Depot, the Wasilla Airport, and Port MacKenzie. The positive feedback and high level of participation highlighted the community's interest in shaping a prosperous economic future.

Looking Ahead

As we move into the second half of the year, the Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce remains committed to supporting our local businesses and community. We are excited about upcoming events, including the 16th Annual Last Ball of the Season Golf Tournament, and look forward to continuing our positive momentum. Thank you to all our members, volunteers, sponsors, and community partners for your unwavering support and dedication. Together, we are making Wasilla a vibrant and thriving place to live and do business.

If you’ve driven by the Depot in the past few weeks, you’ve probably noticed a flurry of activity. We're thrilled to share some exciting updates on the construction projects that are transforming our beloved area!

The new parking lot has taken shape beautifully, offering more convenient and ample parking for all our visitors. Please utilize the parking lot when visiting the Chamber. This improvement is a significant step toward enhancing accessibility and ease of access to the Depot.

Meanwhile, the ongoing construction around the historic Depot building is progressing smoothly. These efforts aim to preserve the charm and heritage of this iconic landmark while modernizing it and making it accessable for future generations to enjoy.

As the project works toward completion, we can't help but feel excited about the positive impact these developments will have on our community. We appreciate your patience and support during this transformative period and look forward to unveiling the finished results soon. Thank you to the City of Wasilla for their hard work to make the Depot area great for all to enjoy!
