Electric vehicles are becoming more common, and the need for skilled workers to install and maintain EV charging stations is growing rapidly. Communities, businesses and transportation systems need trained technicians who understand electrical systems, fiber optics, safety standards and modern charging technology.
To meet this demand, Washtenaw Community College is offering EVSE Charging Station Technician training beginning in Spring/Summer 2026. This SAE-certified program is designed for career changers, trades professionals, electricians in training, maintenance staff and telecommunications technicians seeking practical, job-ready skills.
Developed by electrical engineers and electricians, the training emphasizes hands-on, real-world learning. You will work with an experienced facilitator and gain skills connected to careers in energy, infrastructure and emerging transportation technologies. The program also aligns with WCC’s fiber optics and computer network training and can serve as a stepping stone to an IBEW apprenticeship. Flexible online learning combined with in-person lab work supports busy adults.

The Workforce Foundation Skills Lab at WCC is designed for adult learners (ages 18 and up) to improve their math and workforce readiness skills in order to gain employment, receive a promotion or enter an apprenticeship program.
If you need to update your skills, particularly in math, in order to enter the workforce, complete a trade union test or qualify for a job promotion, this training is for you. Through computer-assisted instruction and a just-in-time intervention facilitator, you will be able to increase your skills in math, graphics and workplace documents literacy. These are skills found in 80% of all jobs and this class is an excellent way to brush up your skills for on-the-job success. What’s best is that you can sign up to take this training literally any day of the year and it can be completed according to your schedule, either in person through the Workforce Foundation Skills Lab on campus or online.

Location and Parking: A majority of classes are held on the main campus of WCC. The locations of off-campus classes are in the class details. What Is a CEU? A CEU (continuing education unit) is a national measurement unit. One CEU equals 10 classroom or equivalent hours and is used to record, transfer and recognize participation in noncredit classes.

Emeritus Scholarship: In order to be granted emeritus status, you must be 65 years of age prior to the start date of the semester and must bring your driver’s license or state-issued photo ID to the Welcome Center (2nd floor, Student Center) on the WCC campus to confirm your age and in-district residency status. Once processed by the Welcome Center, please feel free to register online or for assistance please contact the Workforce & Community Development Department at 734-390-WORK (9675). Note: The emeritus scholarship does not cover mandatory class fees.
Nonprofit Agency Scholarship: This scholarship provides payment for tuition (only) of agency-approved Workforce & Community Development noncredit classes. Submit an application each semester for each class you plan to attend. You must complete all items on this checklist to qualify: 1) You must be a permanent employee of a nonprofit agency (permanent position) in Washtenaw County; 2) Submit the nonprofit agency scholarship application with a copy of your agency’s 501(c)3 documentation, and supervisor-approved class(es) and signature, 10 business days before start of class; 3) You must attend all class sessions and complete all class requirements. If the class is not successfully completed, you (or your agency) may be billed for the full tuition amount of the class and/or have your scholarship discontinued.
