The Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce is marking its seventy-fifth anniversary with the membership celebration “Diamond Gala Rock of Ages” on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Red Tail Lodge at Mountain Creek, Vernon, New Jersey. The gala kicks off with a cocktail hour at 6:00 p.m. serving complimentary beer, wine and appetizers­—dinner to follow at 7:00 p.m. A cash bar is also available.

The event is sure to be a festive evening with a tribute to the past three-quarter century as well as a celebration of today with dancing and live music provided by the ever popular The New York Swing Exchange.

Another wonderful summer season has come to a close, and we’d like to thank all of our members and guests for their participation in our Chamber of Commerce functions.

Autumn’s arrival in the Hudson Valley means not only beautiful foliage, but numerous events and opportunities for you to help your business thrive. Many local businesses (including the Chamber!) will be participating in Orange County’s largest festival, Warwick Applefest, which will be on Sunday, October 5. This is a great way to see the diversity of offerings that exist in our community. Come have some incredible food, stay in one of our charming bed and breakfasts, and support our local artists and merchants.

The Chamber’s 75th anniversary gala is also coming up on Saturday, November 8, so mark your calendars now because you won’t want to miss it!

Appalachian Trail Community, Warwick, New York

Deborah A. Young, Esq. is a former Appalachian Trail thru-hiker who believes Chamber businesses can benefit from Warwick’s designation as an Appalachian Trail Community. This year she delivered several thru-hikers to Sneakers to Boots for new hiking shoes. Those hikers initially asked for rides to Campmor, NJ because they didn’t know that a nearby business “fit” their needs. Celebrate Autumn Harvest Festival October 11 & 12

Crystal Springs Resort is celebrating the change in seasons with its second annual Harvest Festival at Green Valley Farms in Vernon. Having just completed our 20th Annual Taste of Warwick, I am able to report, once again, a resounding success! Just when I think it doesn’t get any better…it does. Our food and spirits vendors surpassed themselves in quality and presentation. Thank you to all who participated and attended – what a magnificent evening at the Warwick Valley Winery!

Next on the horizon is our 26th Annual Applefest. Our dedicated and hard working committee labors ten months toward this one day event. An estimated 35,000 people visiting the village help support 50 nonprofit organizations and, of course, this can only enhance our tourism program.

Speaking of tourism, we feel that our promotions, including the discoverwarwickvalley.com website, constant updating of our facebook page and advertising in city magazines, has had impressive results. The many phone calls and emails from the tri-state area that we receive are proof that the work is paying off. It’s wonderful to see the sidewalks in our villages crowded on weekends. Our business owners are most appreciative due to increased revenue.

Celebrate Applefest’s 26th Anniversary and Pre-fest Carnival Fri, Sat, Sunday

Warwick will welcome an estimated 30,000 visitors to the 26th annual Applefest on Sunday, October 5 from 10 am to 5 pm. The festival will feature over 240 craft and food vendors, a variety of free live stage performances, carnival rides for children, and a traditional apple pie baking contest. In addition to enjoying the carnival Sunday during the festival, families may also enjoy rides, music and food on the Friday and Saturday before Applefest when the Warwick Valley Community Center hosts two preApplefest Carnival evenings at StanleyDeming Park. The Carnival will be open Friday, October 3 and Saturday, October 4 from 4-10 pm with a $15 wristband price on those two evenings only. The Applefest 2014 Visitors’ Guide, with complete

Not-for-profit agency Literacy Orange would like to remind Chamber members that in the United States, an estimated 30 million people over the age of sixteen read no better than the average elementary school child. Our June New Members Luncheon was graciously hosted by the Breezy Point Inn, located at 620 Jersey Avenue on the shore of Greenwood Lake. You can arrive by car or by boat, dine in the charming dining room or enjoy lake views outside from the covered patio. You can even stay the night in one of their cozy rooms. The appetizers, sandwiches, and authentic German specialities will not disappoint!

In July, we were welcomed by the Barnsider Tavern in Sugar Loaf. The building’s appearance, with its display of carpentry tools and facade of old barnsiding is an homage to its past, as it once operated as a hardware and tool shop until its conversion to a restaurant in 1980. The diverse menu, tap room, and beautiful upstairs dining room featuring art displays makes the Barnsider a warm, comfortable, and inviting place. They don’t take reservations but can accommodate even large groups with little notice. The Barnsider Tavern is located at 1372 Kings Highway in Chester.

In August, we were hosted by Murphy’s Tavern at 85 Windermere Avenue in Greenwood Lake. With a full and varied menu that is also available at the bar and for take-out, delicious breakfasts served starting at 8 a.m., and a fun atmosphere, Murphy’s is a local favorite. They host various special events throughout the year and are open 7 days-a-week. The Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce thanks all three of these establishments for their hospitality in hosting our luncheons. We look forward to visiting them again soon!
