Holiday House Tour Saturday, December 3

I think we are all quite happy to be out of the relentless heat and humidity, and welcome our region’s premiere “time to shine” – fall! Of course we were off and running with the annual Taste of Warwick – always a beautiful evening and a magnificent opportunity to celebrate all of our participating restaurants.

What’s new? We are in the process of reviewing the Chamber’s branding status. It became apparent that our younger generation might not be aware of a chamber’s function, and just how to use it to best advantage. This problem exists across the country, and while we are doing very well, we certainly would welcome suggestions that would help.

Our 28th Warwick Applefest is finishing last minute preparations for October 2nd. We look forward to seeing many of you enjoying that day, and would ask that if you are available to volunteer for a couple of hours, please let us know. We all know that Applefest is a family-friendly event with crafts, delicious food and free entertainment all day. In addition, let’s remind ourselves that fifty or more nonprofits make enough money in that one day, eliminating the need to continue fund-raising all year long. And as always, Applefest is a signature event that puts us on the tourism map.

I’d like to ask that in the future, please consider your membership dues as a significant investment in your community. It is also what I call a “credential” indicating your pride in both your business and your community. Our organization promotes individual businesses and tourism, helping to make our area a four season destination.

Sugar Loaf 44th Annual Fall Festival October 8-10

The Sugar Loaf Fall Festival is about to celebrate forty-four years of taking place in the hamlet of Sugar Loaf, New York, on King’s Highway. The festival will begin on Saturday, October 8 from 10am to 6pm, and continue through the 9th, and 10th. It’s the perfect place to spend the weekend with the leaves turning colors, getting a breath of fresh cool air, and enjoying the festival filled with dozens of visiting crafters from the tri-state region. There will be food vendors and a whole line up of live music in the garden. You will have a taste of some of the best local talent in the Hudson Valley.

Come Enjoy APPLEFEST on Sunday, October 2

Warwick will welcome an estimated 30,000 visitors to the 28th annual Applefest on Sunday, October 2, from 10 am to 5 pm. The festival will feature some 250 craft and food vendors, a variety of free, live stage performances, carnival rides for children, along with apple pie baking and apple pie eating contests. In addition to enjoying the carnival all day Sunday during the festival, families can also enjoy rides, music and food on the Friday and Saturday before Applefest! On pre-Applefest evenings, the Carnival at Stanley-Deming Park will be open on Friday, September 30 and Saturday, October 1 from 4 to 10 pm, with a $15 wristband price available on those two evenings only. Produced by the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce, Applefest is a major fundraiser. The much-needed proceeds from the event are used for town-wide community projects for the nearly 50 nonprofit organizations that participate in the annual festival. We welcomed our July and August new members at Iron Forge Inn, 38 Iron Forge Road. For over 50 years, the Iron Forge has offered Orange County fine dining in a warm, friendly atmosphere. The Inn is housed in an historic, Revolutionary War-era home built in 1760 where the owners have taken care to preserve its old world charm. Five cozy rooms serve as dining rooms, while a spacious outdoor gazebo provides a beautiful space for those who want to take in the fresh mountain air. Both owner and chef, Erik Johansen is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America. His fresh and creative selections are a favorite of locals and travelers alike. Erik offers cooking classes at the Inn using seasonal, organic ingredients. He is also available to host a private cooking class and dinner for you and your friends at your home. The Iron Forge Inn serves brunch on Sundays. Its dining rooms and casual Tap Room with its own fireplace are open from Tuesday through Sunday. Iron Forge Inn sponsors corporate events, hosts weddings, and occasionally features live music from local musicians. It truly is the perfect place to celebrate with friends and be treated like family.

Our September luncheon was hosted by Loretta Breedveld, the owner of the Warwick Bed and Breakfast located at 24 Maple Avenue. This beautiful historic colonial revival structure was built in 1910 by its first owner, Kate Luis Barber. In 1997 Loretta purchased the house and opened its doors as a bed and breakfast. With her charming and warm personality combined with incredible taste, she has built a successful and friendly establishment.
