Applefest Fall Celebration Sunday October 4

Come celebrate the festival’s twentyseventh anniversary Sunday, October 4 from 10am to 5pm as the Town of Warwick welcomes an estimated 30,000 visitors. Applefest features more than 240 craft and food vendors, a variety of admission-free live stage performances, children’s carnival rides, and a traditional apple pie baking contest. Enjoy the carnival all day Sunday during the festival.

Families may also enjoy rides, music and food the Friday and Saturday Connor DeHaan before Applefest. The Warwick Valley Community Center hosts two pre-Applefest carnival evenings at Stanley-Deming Park open Friday, October 2 and Saturday, October 3 from 4pm to 10pm for the wristband admission price of $15 on those two evenings only.

Produced by the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Warwick Valley Community Center, Applefest is a major fundraising event. The proceeds are used for town-wide community projects for the nearly fifty nonprofit organizations which participate in the annual festival. The Applefest 2015 Visitors’ Guide, complete with event information, will be posted on the website and distributed free on the day of the event. Well, the fall air has arrived and yes, Applefest is right around the corner. Our chamber is very strong. Other Chambers have commented how well we do and have imitated some of our initiatives (imitation being the highest form of flattery). I am entering my final quarter as your President and am turning a sharp eye on your future leaders. The new Board nominees are in place and will be voted on at the annual dinner on November 14. Make your plans now for “Comedy In The Country Club”.

It will be a blast.

Events have flown by and have been well attended.

Educational seminars have made a comeback. Multi-Chamber events spearheaded

Generations of Community Service for Betterment

It dawned on the company as they posted their latest community involvement on Facebook, that as a small business specializing in insurance, they perform two very important functions. One, of course, is to ensure that their clients are properly insured in the event of that unfortunate loss (note that doesn’t mean cheapest, though in most cases they are VERY competitive). Seely & Durland Insurance is there 24/7 to make sure the claims process goes smoothly resulting from a team effort.

But the second, more subtle function of the company, is the time spent by their entire staff giving back to the community and industry in a notably selfless manner. Seely & Durland is in awe of that commitment by their employees and owners alike. And it’s not just a once- or twice-a-year occurrence. It’s throughout the year via involvement on boards and committees, attending events to raise money for special causes, and through sponsorships. This isn’t boasting, but a realization that what makes Warwick, and hundreds of other small communities, such wonderful places to live and work in is that the employees care. They want to make this town better, and they want to help those in need. They make it seem effortless. And then there’s the outside possibility of a new generation coming into the business at Seely & Durland Insurance. Currently Justin Durland (Stu’s son) is working his social media magic from the University of Buffalo on a part time basis. Most recently the company hired Brianna Smith (niece of Stuart & Garrett) as a full-time staff member. Both new hires make a new Seely & Durland generation learning the business from the ground up. It’s interesting that based on a Forbes article, 64% of this millennial generation wants to make the world a better place. And what better way of starting that process then having a fourth generation get involved in this local community.

Just a day or two from the recent event, I am pleased to report that the Chamber’s 21st Taste of Warwick was once again spectacular, with weather to match! Many thanks to the thirty-one participants, and to all those who attended.

The 27th Warwick Applefest is now upon us. We anticipate high attendance for a wonderful day featuring 250 craft vendors, 150 food vendors, a farmer’s market, rides for the kids, and a great variety of live entertainment about town all day.

The Chamber’s weekly radio show has certainly been fun and informative, and we encourage all our members to take advantage of this excellent opportunity to educate the public on the unique advantages of the businesses they own.

Increased tourism is spotlighting our region as a visitors’ destination, which helps all of us! The New York Renaissance Fair has just recently been identified by the American Business Association as one of the top one-hundred events in the U.S. for 2016. Warwick Applefest had similar recognition just a few years ago.

Our Bellvale Farms Creamery now has the distinction of being named the second best ice cream shop in the entire country by tripadvisor.com. And as you might recall from a few months ago, our area was selected as one of the top ten places for an escape weekend. We can all be very proud.

Our July luncheon was held at the Black Dirt Brewhouse, located at 28 North Main Street in Florida, NY. Founded in 2014, this is one of the area’s original — and gastronomically creative — new establishments. They use only the freshest and finest local ingredients from meats and cheeses to produce.

Even their selection of beer is largely from New York State, sourced from the Hudson Valley. With their seasonallychanging menu and fun atmosphere, Black Dirt Brewhouse is the perfect place for a fabulous meal or night out with family and friends.

In September, we were welcomed by the New Continental Hotel and Restaurant in Greenwood Lake once again. This historic establishment has been owned and operated by the Stoeberl Family since the early 1920s. Both comforting and charming, the New Continental Hotel and Restaurant combines an old-world atmosphere with modern updates. The establishment’s cozy rooms and unique Delft cocktail lounge bedecked with 240 unique hand-painted Delft tiles, in combination with the outdoor terrace which offers breathtaking views of Orange County’s largest lake, make this a great place to stay, dine, and celebrate any occasion. ‘Winding Through Warwick’ Holiday House Tour Saturday, December 5 Winding through Warwick, the region’s most beloved holiday house tour, will be held on Saturday, December 5 featuring exceptional homes decked in all their holiday splendor to celebrate the Christmas season. Chamber Promotes That Sense of Community Which Makes This Area Special

The Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce recently hosted the “Taste of Warwick” for the twenty-first year, an event which celebrates our many restaurants, wineries and breweries. During an elegant, candlelit evening under the stars, guests sampled gourmet foods and wines while listening to live music by Longchamp and Manzo as they looked out over the green expanse of Warwick Valley Winery. Guests were treated to samplings created by our regional chefs which took advantage of local produce in order to create and promote their respective specialties. Once again, the affair was held at Warwick Valley Winery & Distillery on Little York Road, off Route 1A. The day began near perfect with sunny skies and a cool breeze as guests enjoyed the evening. We cannot express enough, how appreciative we are to those who were able to participate in this year’s event.
