2 The Chamber Connection

From Chamber President John Redman President, Union Square Group LTD

John T. Redman

Happy summertime, and as I write this, we already have summertime temperatures. The Community Showcase held last month was a stunning success, especially with the help of the huge group of volunteers who showed up to put out barriers and concrete bases, and assist in general setup then breakdown, led by Jean Beattie of Warwick Valley Telephone and the amazing team from Crossfit Warwick. Executive committee members Jim Mezzetti of Myles Financial Wealth Management and Better Homes & Gardens Rand Realty Wayne Patterson’s table- and chair-moving skills were on display along with a whole bunch of other members who helped out to make the setup on Main Street and Railroad Avenue work just like Sarah and Bea had planned it. As always, great kudos to that dynamic duo that keeps everything running like it should. Elizabeth Cassidy, Esq. stepped way up to coordinate vendors and to take care of all the details for the whole event once again. Thanks Liz. People like you make all the difference in a volunteer organization.

Keep an eye out for a new coat of paint on the old Caboose on South Street. We hope to make some other improvements in the coming months. And speaking of old issues, we are behind in collection of member dues versus previous years, so it’s time for those of you who haven’t paid up to do just that. Take a look at Executive Director Michael Johndrow’s update about the kind of exposure we’re getting in regional advertising to see how your Chamber is working for all of us.

Summertime Music August 9 to 12

August 9 to 12, 2018 is year nine of The Hudson Valley Jazz Festival. The series celebrates America’s music, primarily by featuring local artists in varied settings. Shows are held in galleries, cafés, restaurants, parks, clubs, performing arts centers, and even on an organic farm this year. The festival is made possible through partnerships with local organizations, the supporting public, chambers of commerce, local media and The Village of Warwick Concert Series. Most shows are free, kid-friendly and easily accessible. For the schedule, see www.hudsonvalleyjazzfest.org or contact the festival’s office at (917) 903-4380.

From the Caboose by Executive Director Michael Johndrow

Let’s start with Operation Clean Sweep – this was another successful year with many residents participating to keep our villages looking great. It turned out to be an excellent idea to run it for a whole week. Next year we would like to expand it to a town-wide cleanup!

Our Community Showcase once again was well attended by both vendors and potential customers. Of course it was helpful to have fallen on a picture-perfect weather day!

Our 24th Taste of Warwick will be held on a Monday, moving forward one week later to a due to scheduling conflicts. The new date is September 17th from 6:00-9:00 pm at the Warwick Valley Winery & Distillery. We are anticipating thirty-five tables of fabulous food and drink, plus live music for only $100 per couple. Hope to see you there.

Applefest will also have a date change. This year the event will be held on the second Sunday in October, which is the 14th. We can’t believe that this will be Applefest’s 30th year! REALLY BIG NEWS!!! I recently received an ad call from an agency in NYC, which was nice, but price-wise totally out of our league. However, after listening to what I had to say about the Warwick Valley, they made us an offer we couldn’t refuse! To make a long story short, we will now have an ad in the form of an insert (published by Horizon Magazine) …in the July twelfth edition of the Wall Street Journal. So look for our presence in the newspaper if you happen to subscribe, or pick up a copy at the stand. And then… and here’s the most exciting part: ABC’s Good Morning America will be running pictures of our beautiful area on its 3,685-sq ft electronic super sign in Times Square between June 29th and July 5th! Eyes open everyone – we can all be very proud!

Tax Reform and Equipment Acquisition Strategy by Tina M. Buck, KeyBank Manager, Warwick Branch, 845-610-6515

Equipment financing is a strategic tool for businesses to improve cash flow and optimize tax savings. Equipment financing enables companies to: · avoid large out-of-pocket costs and effectively manage cash from operations; · flexibly upgrade equipment to the latest technology; · use credit lines for day-to-day business operations rather than long-term capital needs. While the new tax reform law doesn’t change tried-and-true benefits of leasing, new rules allowing 100% expensing of equipment purchases, along with the repeal of AMT, now requires a fresh look at the buy-versus-lease analysis. Visit Key Equipment Finance at http://www.keyequipmentfinance.com/business for more information.

Don’t Let Your Investments Take a “Vacation”

It’s summer again – time for many of us to take a break. But you never want your investments to go on “vacation.” So, how do you keep your portfolio working hard all year long?

For starters, make sure you own a sufficient amount of growth-oriented investments. If you have too many investment vehicles that offer little risk but also little growth potential, you may have trouble making progress toward your goals.

Next, review your progress at least once a year. Over time, the performance of different investments within your portfolio could cause it to “drift” in ways that are unfavorable to you Ryan O’Leary or cause you to take on too much risk. Finally, don’t look for shortcuts. True investment success typically requires patience, persistence and the resilience to continue investing even during market downturns. You need to establish your goals and keep them constantly in mind as you invest. Hopefully, you will enjoy a pleasant vacation sometime this summer. But your investment portfolio shouldn’t take time off. If you have any questions call Ryan O’Leary at (845) 987-7220. LLC or S-Corp Still the Right Fit for Your Business? by Valerie K. Zammitti, JD, MBA, LLM of Tuckfelt & Zammitti, PLLC

(Attorney Advertising) The new tax law has bestowed upon small business owners, a 20% deduction against business income. This deduction will have a significant financial impact on many business owners. While this sounds straight forward, the implementation of the law and future planning to maximize this deduction takes more time and consideration.

Based on certain thresholds and formulas, there is a possibility you may lose some or all of this deduction. In addition, it may Valerie Zammitti be advantageous to convert your existing business to a different entity type. As a tax attorney, Tuckfelt & Zammitti can help assess your situation to ensure the best possible outcome. Please visit www.tzattorneys.com or call Tuckfelt & Zammitti (845) 988-9898.
