The Chamber Connection

“Bringing it downtown,” the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce will host the tenth anniversary of the Community Showcase on May 20 in the heart of downtown Warwick, NY. The event will be held 10am to 5pm, with a rain date of Sunday, May 21. The rain date will only be used in case of a torrential rain storm.

This year, we’ll let the Village of Warwick be the backdrop for our popular program as our members line Main Street and Railroad Ave. Come join us for an open air festival where businesses showcase what they have to offer each other and the community!

The Showcase is great for both store-front and home-based businesses, providing a vibrant celebration of local products and services as well as networking opportunities for participants, while benefiting from the natural flow of visitors that visit downtown.

Members must register by Friday, May 12. The registration fee is $100 for chamber members and $125 plus membership fees for non-members. The non-member fee includes a one year chamber membership. Non-profit organizations are invited to exhibit. They are eligible for the special non-profit rate of $50 along with the non-profit non-member membership fee.

Experience the event which showcases the “Who’s Who” in the Warwick Valley area business community—where you’re able to make face-to-face contact with potential customers and fellow vendors. Host demonstrations to get hands-on interactions with customers at your booth! It’s a great opportunity to market and sell products and services. Features of the Community Showcase include having a 10' x 8' space allotted per business. Come prepared! There will be an exhibitor “Pre-Show Vendor to Vendor” opportunity from 9am to 10am the day of show. Scheduled demonstrations may be booked on Railroad Green for those who want to perform for the public.

The Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce is a local association that exists to promote and protect the interests of the business community in Warwick. Its ongoing mission is to both encourage economic opportunity through business and community leadership and enhance the social and civic environment of Warwick Valley.

Our Chamber today is an organization of just under 600 members representing numerous individuals who believe in the importance of creating a sense of community among local businesses. Our members represent just about every industry, large and small, old and new, from home based businesses just starting out to very large businesses with hundreds of employees. We advocate the partnership between business and community to preserve, enhance and promote those unique qualities that make Warwick Valley a great place in which to live, work and visit.

Brian Ahearn Children’s Fund Golf Outing May 26

The nineteenth annual Brian Ahearn Children’s Fund Golf Outing will be held at Crystal Springs Golf Resort on Friday, May 26. This will be the nonprofit’s only major fundraiser this year so it’s important that lots of golfers attend and fellow chamber members sponsor the event. Contributions made to more than 650 families with seriously ill children and other hardships exceeds $1,000,000 and the requests keep coming. There’s a new space created on the second floor of 7 West Street, Warwick encouraging collaboration, creativity, connection and community. This space caters to women of all ages and body types that wish to express themselves creatively through fashion and not limit themselves to the styling, sizing and trends that the mass market dictates. Through original designs —including custom clothing— Janice Brigante’s Style With Love Studio Boutique’s workshops seek to restyle and mend what you already own, further empowering you with the addition of sewing classes. 30th Million Dollar Rep

Chamber member Jim Bufalo was recently recognized for having qualified for the Million Dollar Round Table for the thirtieth consecutive year.

He has represented Northwestern Mutual Insurance since 1985. Financial Advisor James J. Bufalo. CLU, ChFC has worked with local families and business owners on the most effective ways to accomplish their goals by providing insurance and investment solutions. Hello there… and BIG NEWS! Our 10th Annual Community Showcase is changing locations— we are bringing it downtown! This year, we will be setting up on both Railroad Avenue and Main Street, in the Village of Warwick. This event is an annual promotion for “shop local”. Our vendors will literally be on “Main Street” for a day.

Our Showcase is free to the public and includes special features such as Warwick Fire Department, St. Anthony Community Hospital and Warwick Police. The date not to miss is Saturday, May 20th from 10am to 5pm (rain date is May 21st). Hope to see you there!

I’d like to remind everyone that the last weekend in April is our Annual Operation Clean Sweep Program. It’s a great opportunity to work as a family or with your neighbors to clean up our streets and roads after the winter season. Our Chamber furnishes bags (provided by Shop Rite) and gloves (provided by St. Anthony Community Hospital). Just stop in at the Caboose and register your area of clean-up while picking up your bags and gloves on Saturday, April 29th at the parking lot adjacent to the Caboose.

Various programs will be offered: The Warwick Lions Club will host a paper shredding as well as an old eyeglass and hearing aid collection.

The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence will be collecting used cell phones and the Warwick Valley Coalition will be hosting an unused prescription pill drop-off. Programs offered offsite include electronics recycling at The Computer Guy at 14 West Street, and motor oil collection and recycling at Leo Kaytes Ford, 145 Route 94 South.

Let’s also point out that our website (www.warwickcc.org) is getting approximately 10,000 hits per month! Be sure your information is up-todate and current. Have you included different categories for your business?

Chamber New Member Luncheons

In January, the forces of Mother Nature created the need for a last-minute venue change. We are very grateful to Mary McClurg, the manager of Sterling Bank, for accommodating our new members’ luncheon on such short notice! Sterling Bank offers a complete line of corporate and consumer banking products and services. They have been a trusted resource for businesses and families throughout the New York metropolitan area since 1888, and we are fortunate to be able to count on their dedication and attentive service here in our local communities.

Our food was provided by ShopRite Supermarket, whose commitment to our community has been evident for a long time. They were recently commended for their support of local nonprofit and veterans’ groups, and have also raised money for local food pantries. Their service to Warwick and the surrounding areas, the quality of their products, and their supportive and caring attitude are great assets to our community.

Our February/March luncheon was at The Sweet Onion Brewhouse, located at 28 North Main Street in Florida, NY. The Brewhouse is a family-oriented restaurant with unique, creative food and a wide selection of drinks. They pride themselves on using only the freshest locally-sourced ingredients, from produce and herbs to meats and cheeses. Most of their beer is from New York State and the Hudson Valley specifically.

The Sweet Onion has a spacious bar area, ample seating, and a beautiful outdoor terrace. It’s the perfect place for all occasions. Go for the food and atmosphere, or enjoy their food at your own event with their extensive catering selections. The Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce would like to thank these establishments, for their support and generosity.
