Kineton and District League

2021 was our second season in the highly competitive Kineton and District League. The league is made up of 15 clubs in South Warwickshire and produced some very closely contested matches both home and away. We ended the season in 10th place with a shot difference of -75 compared to our first season in the league when we finished 13th and had a shot difference of -395. This was clearly a marked improvement and shows that we are moving in the right direction. Throughout the season 35 of our members represented the club in KDL matches. Our real success came in the KDL competitions, winning the Joe Edkins team competition beating Southam, Snitterfield and Norgren in the earlier rounds before winning the final against Illmington. We also had two of our ladies Mary Wheildon and Jacqui Ashley both reaching the final and competing against each other for The Cotton Cup, which Mary went on to win after a very close match. In summary an excellent second season with all the ups and downs of competitive competition. We have undoubtedly made some of the bigger bowls club sit up and take notice of us as a club with some very good bowlers and a great team spirit. Well done to all and thank you Chris

Men’s Courier League

As part of a very successful season for all parts of the Warwick Boat club bowls section our men’s triple side has gained promotion, as run away winners, from division 3 to division 2 of the Courier league. This is a triples league played on Wednesday afternoons made up of several clubs from Welford on Avon to Leamington Spa and beyond.

Promoted alongside Warwick Boat club was Stratford Bowls club. Courier captain Jeremy Ashley paid tribute to his team whose record reads played 12 won 9 drawn 2 losing just 1.

“It was a real pleasure to be able to pick from a group of quality players all of whom wanted to win to enable us to gain promotion and play at a higher level of bowls in the local area. My thanks goes out to everyone in the entire squad”

After a very successful 2021 for WBC, with our players achieving considerable local league and County success, our plqying season came to an end in September. A number of our members have continued to bowl indoors at Avon Valley Indoor bowls facility at Gaydon and a contingent recently travelled to Potter’s Resort in Norfolk where they took part in an indoor bowls tournament with three of our teams reaching the last 16 of the competition.

In November, the section held its annual presentation evening at the club where our guest speaker was Christina Boxer, Warwick District Council Commonwealth Games Programme manager. She availed us of stories of her past Olympic and Commonwealth games successes before presenting the club trophies to our competition winners.

The green is now closed until the Spring and our greenkeeper, Jeremy Ashley, ably assisted by the club groundsmen, continues to carry out regular maintenance. This will ensure that the playing surface is at its very best for the start of next season.

Despite an absence of outdoor bowling in the Winter months, many members continue to access social events at the club and are taking the opportunity to try out the table bowls game set up by the Catering Manager which is becoming increasingly popular!
