FIRE RESISTANCE TESTING Fire resistance tests determine the likely behaviour of an element of construction when subjected to a fully developed fire. Fire resistance is a property of a building component or structure and evaluating it usually requires a test of a representative part of a building, rather than individual materials in isolation. These tests are commonly specified in codes and regulations in both the building and transport sectors.

The element of construction is exposed to defined heating and pressure conditions which may be encountered in fully developed fires. Consequently, fire resistance tests tend to be larger in scale and complexity than reaction to fire tests.

The test specimens are representative of the items that go to make up buildings: doors, walls, floors, beams, columns, ceilings, etc. The assembly usually includes the specimen or product in addition to support construction around the product.

At our Warringtonfire laboratory, both full and indicative scale fire resistance tests can be carried out on passive fire elements of structures.Warringtonfire undertakes tests using a variety of heating curves including the standard AS 1530.4 (ISO) curve, slow heating curves and the hydrocarbon time/temperature curve.

Warringtonfire experts work closely with clients and can assist with the development of test programs, including indicative testing and full scale compliance testing. They have extensive technical knowledge of fire resistance and fire related testing, in addition to experience in developing adhoc test methods to suit our customers’ needs where no suitable standard exists.

Warringtonfire undertakes fire resistance testing for AS, BS, EN, UL, IMO and ASTM standards and can arrange for tests to be witnessed for listing or certification purposes where requested. We also offer remote witnessing for realtime access to any test conducted in our laboratory.
