Greetings citizens of Warrensburg and surrounding areas. On behalf of the Parks & Recreation Board and Parks

& Recreation staff, it is our honor to serve you and provide the best opportunities possible, for active and passive recreation, to the Warrensburg Community and surrounding areas. We are also excited as this edition of the Activity Guide also includes THE WARRENSBURG LEGEND. This information gives our citizens great information on the City of Warrensburg Services. This past year has gone by quickly and I am excited to provide you with a recap of Parks & Recreation’s

accomplishments over the last 12 months. A special thank you to the Public Works Department for their work with the Parks & Recreation Maintenance Division, this past year. New Park Entrance Signs were installed. The Marion H. Glazebrooke Fitness Center has been renovated with new paint, a more functional layout for exercise, and $60,000 of new fitness equipment. Complete renovation of the Bathrooms at Cave Hollow Park. The Indoor and Outdoor Pools were renovated. A new “Pour in Place” Playground Surface was installed at Hawthorne Park. A new Building Supervisor position was added. A very successful Summer Day Camp with 100 kids weekly. Special events for the Warrensburg Community. A new Recreation Supervisor of Sports. Hosted the successful Piranhas Swim Team Program, operated by Michael Meloy. Hosted the School District Swim Teams, coached by Brandon Campbell. Ribbon Cutting held on the new

All Guests have FREE access to the Indoor Track and Gym Must be 16+ to use Fitness Center All Access Passes provide exclusive access to our award-winning Fitness Center, Indoor Track, gymnasium, Indoor Aquatic Center, and all group exercise classes. Guests must check in at the Front Desk and have a wristband to use the facilities. All guests must have an account with Parks & Rec to use our facilities and classes. Guests 11-17 must have an account and a Youth Contract on file to enter the Community Center unaccompanied. Front Desk staff will be happy to sign you up!

Billing: Monthly passes are billed on the 16th of the month. Payments are automatically withdrawn from the card or banking account provided. Monthly Fee Return: A $25 service fee is assessed for each returned fee/check. Membership Cancellation: Cancellation forms are obtained at the Front Desk and must be completed, signed and received by us before the end of the month, prior to the next billing. The only person who may cancel membership is the one who signed the membership application. Memberships are automatically renewed if not prepaid. NO REFUNDS.

WARRENSBURG COMMUNITY CENTER AGE RESTRICTIONS

Youth 10 and under - Must be accompanied by a parent or guardian(age 18+) within the WCC at all times. Youths 11-15 years old entering the facility unaccompanied by an adult(age 18+) MUST have a Parks and Rec Account and a WCC Youth Account Contract signed by youth and guardian on file BEFORE using the facility. A parent/guardian must come into the WCC to fill out the contract. Can only use the gym without parent supervision. 15 and under must be accompanied/supervised by an adult to use the track. Is not allowed access to the fitness center. Youths 16-17 years old who enter the facility unaccompanied by an adult(age 18+) MUST have a Parks and Rec Account and a WCC Youth Account Contract signed by the youth and guardian and on file before using the facility. A parent/guardian must come into the WCC to fill out the contract. Can use the gym, fitness center, and track without adult supervision.

WHAT ELSE DO WE OFFER?

Whether you want to get in shape, go for a swim, hold a business meeting, family reunion or birthday party, or just hang out with friends and have fun, the Warrensburg Community Center (WCC) is a great place for you! We recently debut new equipment this Summer including new treadmills, weight benches, and stationary equipment! Fitness Center We offer a wide variety of fitness equipment including treadmills, ellipticals, bikes (recumbent and upright), weight machines, free weights, kettle bells, exercise balls and much more! Exercise and fitness classes for all ages are held daily in the stateof-the-art aerobics room. Walking Track Our walking track circles the community center on the 2nd level and overlooks the Indoor Pool area and is free to use with check-in at the front desk. 11⅓ laps around the track equals 1 mile. Anyone under 18 years old must have a signed youth contract & be at least 16 years old. WCC Indoor Aquatic Center Features a lap and leisure pool, hot tub, zero-entry splash pool with 2 slides, and mushroom fountain! 7 Reservable Rooms Can accommodate meetings, special family events, and programs of all shapes and sizes. Whether hosting a small event or one for 200, Warrensburg Parks & Recreation (WPR) can help! See details on Pages 5-6. WCC Gymnasium Features 1 regulation size basketball court or 2 courts with 6 basketball goals, 2 volleyball courts, bleachers, and 3 pickleball courts.

RENTAL INFORMATION

• Reservations are only guaranteed with full payment. • Facilities reservations must be made at least 14 days in advance. Requests under 14 days in advance must be approved by management and may be subject to additional fees. • Facilities may be reserved up to 90 days in advance with full payment. • Decorations are only allowed on tables. No confetti, wall and/or ceiling decorations allowed. Tableware and linens are not provided. • Alcoholic beverages are not permitted in park buildings, or on any park grounds. • All park buildings are smoke free. • Dances are not permitted without prior management approval. • Entry to rooms/buildings is not permitted prior to the reservation time. Set-ups & cleanup must be included in the reserved time. Fees will be charged for early arrivals and late departures. • Field reservations are subject to availability/field conditions and may be reserved no more than 1 month in advance. WPR sanctioned games and practices take priority over outside rentals. • Cancellation/Refund requests should be made at least 30 days prior to rental date. A $5 fee will be assessed if approved. No refunds for requests less than 15 days before reserved date • Shelter reservations are non-refundable. Visit our website for more information.

BLIND BOONE

The park that is now known as Blind Boone Park used to be the park designated for African American residents of Warrensburg until the Brown vs Board of Education of Topeka, KS Supreme Court ruling that mandated the integration of public accommodations. The Blind Boone Park Renovation Group was formed in 2000 to restore the park. In 2003, a statue of John William “Blind” Boone, a famous musician who grew up in Warrensburg, was erected in the park by noted sculptor, Ai Qiu Hopen. The Renovation Group also installed exhibits about Boone's life, which were made accessible for those with vision impairments. The restored park features a scent garden, wind harp, gazebo, and reflexology path. It is ideal for family outings or quiet contemplation and has Braille signage. Warrensburg Parks & Recreation

Kids rotate between 3 drill stations at timed intervals. Stations include dribbling, passing, and shooting. Parents are encouraged to participate and join in on the fun! LITTLE HOOPSTERS Tues. & Thurs. Jan 23 - Feb 29 LEAGUE FORMAT: This instructional program is geared toward ages 5-6. Kids will play on modified courts and goals. Teams will be formed by staff prior to the start of the program. EQUIPMENT PROVIDED: WPR will provide a league monitor, basketballs, and each participant will receive an official WPR Little Hoopsters shirt to be worn for games and practices. PRACTICE/GAME DAYS: Teams will practice once per week during the program. 45-minute games will be played on Thursdays starting at 5:30pm or 6:30pm. Sign up as an individual and be sure to indicate during the registration process whether or not you have a partner. They will also need to register and list you as their partner. If you don’t have a partner, we will assign one to you. EQUIPMENT PROVIDED: Nets, paddles, and balls will be provided. If you would like to bring your own ball and paddle you are welcome to do so! Scores will be recorded by the winning team to the Site Supervisor after the matches. LEAGUE FORMAT: This recreational league teaches

players the fundamentals of the game, basic skill sets, and places an emphasis on teamwork and having fun. The recreational league will include travel to local towns that also participate within the Glen W. Shippy League. Good sportsmanship will be required of all players and coaches at all times. GAME DAYS: Games will start the first week of May. Each team will play 10 regular-season games, but is subject to change based on weather cancellation. Each team will be guaranteed a game in the end-of-season tournament. Playoffs will be held the week of June 26. Championship games would be held after the Fourth of July. Rethink Maguire (formerly known as the Maguire Street Corridor Project), is the City of Warrensburg’s process to transform the Maguire Street corridor which connects U.S. 50 to the University of Central Missouri and the larger community. Rethink Maguire is engaging city residents, businesses and stakeholders in crafting a vision for the improvements needed to upgrade this corridor to improve the quality of life and enhance safety for residents and visitors through modern, resilient infrastructure.

What’s Going On? RETHINK MAGUIRE HAS REACHED SEVERAL MILESTONES

In October 2023, the project was awarded a $280,000 federal Safe Streets for All grant to develop a Safety Action Plan and demonstration projects.

In 2021, Warrensburg voters approved a $17 million bond initiative to support the project’s development and execution.

•

A 2010 TIGER II/HUD Community Challenge planning grant awarded for the Maguire Street Corridor Plan.

•

The project corridor includes Maguire Street from Cooper Boulevard north of the U.S. 50 interchange to Broad Street in Warrensburg, Missouri. The Maguire Street corridor is the highest-volume thoroughfare in the city with nearly 18,000 trips per day.

Ped Pedestrian and bicycling connections will be enhanced through the installation of a proposed 10-feet wide sidewalk along Maguire Street. This will provide more protection to pedestrians and bicyclists traveling the corridor. The sidewalk will connect to the new and existing infrastructure. The persistent ﬂooding occurring west of Maguire Street between Young Street and North Street is a consequence of unconnected stormwater infrastructure. Improving stormwater collection along Maguire Street and evaluating improvements to conveyance and storage west to Shepard Park provides a comprehensive analysis of stormwater management in this area.

CORRIDOR CONFIGURATIONS The Maguire Street corridor is the highest-volume thoroughfare in the city with nearly 18,000 trips per day. Rethink Maguire aims to improve reliability, safety, and multimodal travel along the corridor. Alongside the community, the team will evaluate potential repairs to several infrastructure assets along the corridor including an aging interchange bridge, an aging railroad overpass bridge, cracked pavement, and aging signs and traffic signals, among other placemaking initiatives including burying overhead utilities.

CITY CONNECTIONS Increased access for all residents of Warrensburg, especially those within low-income neighborhoods, is one of the primary goals of the project. This means better infrastructure for providing critical transportation services for residents who do not have access to personal transportation and increased connectivity for residents who live south of U.S. 50 to jobs and necessities north of U.S. 50.

NORTH LINKS The City has steadily invested in planning and roadway improvments from Cooper Boulevard to Broad Street to upgrade urban and rural transportation on the north side of the city. The interchange at U.S. 50 is being evaluated and would serve as the northern gateway into Warrensburg.

SOUTH GATEWAY The Rethink Maguire project will encompass many improvements. One pillar throughout the study will be exploring opportunities for placemaking. Placemaking is a participatory process for shaping public spaces that harnesses the ideas and assets of the people who use it. The study team will be exploring opportunities to better improve transportation access to and from the University of Central Missouri Campus and opportunities to create spaces for all our community to enjoy.
