FEATURED PARK

SHEPARD MEMORIAL PARK In 1931 the Warrensburg City Council decided it needed a park. Charles A. Shepard, the owner of Shepard’s Dry Goods, purchased a piece of property on the North side of town and donated it. The city soon set up donation barrels in front of Marr Drugstore to raise money for a wading pool which was constructed on the East end of the park, dedicating it to “the youth of Warrensburg.” The old Barnett House at the East end is now home to Big Brothers/Big Sisters. The city received federal funding from the New Deal CWA Project in 1935 to employ men to build the retaining wall, steps and pillars on the west end of the park with locallyquarried stone. Today Shepard Park is a quiet place to play, run, picnic or just relax.
