WPR YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP FUND Warrensburg Parks & Recreation believes all youth should have the opportunity to participate in recreation activities. The Youth Scholarship Fund is partially funded by donations and sponsorships. Scholarship applications are available at the Warrensburg Community Center.

Did you know that Warrensburg Parks and Recreation maintains just over 400 acres of park land? That includes Grover Park, which is where the Community Center and Nassif Aquatic Center are located. We have an amazing team that keeps all of our parks, trails, and facilities in tip-top shape. In this issue, we’ve highlighted a few of our trails. You can find more information about all of our parks, trails, and facilities on pages 4-7. This fall, I challenge you to take a lap around Lion’s Lake or hike through Culp Park! Don’t miss some of our great new program additions. New programs include: Father Son Sports night, Mother Daughter Tea Party, Pre-Natal Yoga, and private fitness parties, just to name a few! This year, we also added a 7th grade division to our volleyball league. Flip through this issue to find something for everyone in your family. We look forward to seeing you in a park this fall!

Guests must check in at the Front Desk and have a wristband to use the facilities. All guests must have an account with Parks & Rec to use our facilities and classes. Front Desk staff will be happy to sign you up!

Billing: Monthly passes are billed on the 16th of the month. Payments are automatically withdrawn from the card or bank account provided. Monthly Fee Return: A $25 service fee is assessed for each returned fee/check. Membership Cancellation: Visit the front desk to cancel membership. Cancel at any time with no penalty, but you must cancel on or before the 10th of the month in order to avoid being billed for the next month.

Whether you want to get in shape, go for a swim, hold a business meeting, family reunion or birthday party, or just hang out with friends and have fun, the Warrensburg Community Center (WCC) is a great place for you! Make sure to stop by our front desk where our friendly community center attendants can check you in, help you register for activities, and answer any questions you might have about all the great things your center has to offer. Fitness Center Our fitness center has been named 'Best Fitness Center' in the 'Burg two years in a row for good reason. We offer a wide variety of fitness equipment including treadmills, ellipticals, bikes (recumbent and upright), weight machines, free weights, kettle bells, exercise balls and much more! Exercise and fitness classes for all ages are held daily in the state-of-the-art aerobics room. Walking Track Our walking track circles the Community Center on the 2nd level and overlooks the Indoor Pool area and is free to use with check-in at the front desk. 11â…“ times around the track equals 1 mile. Children 13 & younger must be accompanied by an adult. WCC Indoor Aquatic Center Features a lap and leisure pool, a hot tub, zeroentry splash pool with 2 slides, mushroom fountain, and pool! 7 WCC Reservable Rooms Can accommodate meetings, special family events and programs of all shapes and sizes. FEATURED PARK OZ & DOROTHY HAWKSLEY PRAIRIE

The Oz & Dorothy Hawksley Prairie, originally named Turkeyfoot Prairie, is a 7-Acre Prairie located in the West Park area. Take a leisurely stroll through beautiful native grasses, plants and flowers maintained by Citizens for Environmental Action (CEA) for Parks & Rec. In recent years CEA has added a Wildflower Demonstration Garden, bat houses and a restored slough with 2 Wood Duck Houses. CEA and other volunteers meet at the Prairie every Wednesday morning between 8:30am-9:00am from mid-March to mid-October to see what’s new and to work on the continuing maintenance and improvement areas. Anyone who is interested in seeing the Prairie and learning more about it (and joining in the work) is welcome.

Swimming lessons are held in the Community Center Indoor Pool. Water Babies and Preschool Swim Academy classes are 30 minutes long and levels 1-4 are 45 minutes.

DESCRIPTION

LEVEL Waterbabies

Entering and exiting the water safely; submerging in a rhythmic pattern; gliding on the front and back with assistance; performing combined stroke on front and back with assistance; changing body position in the water; and experiencing wearing a life jacket in the water. Each child must be accompanied by a participating adult and wear a swimsuit and swim diaper.

Preschool

Entering the water independently using ladder, steps or side and travel at least 5 yards; submerging mouth and blowing bubbles for at least 3 seconds; exiting the water safely; gliding on front for at least 2 body lengths; rolling to back and floating for 3 seconds; and recovering to a vertical position. (All skills are demonstrated with assistance.)

Level 1

Entering the water independently using the ladder, steps or side; traveling at least 5 yards; bobbling3 times then safely exiting the water; gliding on front supported at least 2 body lengths; rolling to back float for 3 seconds with support; and recovering to a vertical position with support. (Most skills are demonstrated with assistance.)

Level 2

Entering and exiting; moving into a front float for 5 seconds; rolling to back; floating for 5 seconds then recovering to a vertical position; pushing off and swimming using combined arm and leg actions on front for 5 body lengths; rolling to back; floating for 15 seconds; and rolling to the front then continuing to swim for 5 body lengths.

FALL SPORTS

SPORTS YOUTH VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE League Format: Eight regular season games, one guaranteed tournament during the season. Teams will be guaranteed one practice per week, at a date to be determined by team’s coach. Practices will be offered on weekdays based on coach’s availability. Roster Formation: Rosters will be randomly assigned by staff. Team’s are allowed to have up to four hand-picked players on the roster. This includes the head coach’s kid(s), and one assistant coach’s kid(s). The remainder of the roster will be assigned by staff. Equipment Provided: We will provide teams with practice balls and jerseys. Game Schedule: Monday and Wednesday evenings, between 5:30pm-9:00pm. Games are roughly one hour long. Location: All home games are played in the gymnasium at the Community Center. Players may travel to communities such as: Green Ridge, Windsor, Sedalia, Sacred Heart, Lone Jack, Crest Ridge, and Knob Noster. Coaches Meeting: Will be held the week of September 3 Fee: $75 Early Registration: Save $10 if registered by August 6! Registration Deadline: August 25

NFL FLAG FOOTBALL League Format: COED League. Six regular season games, One guaranteed game in single-elimination tournament at the end of the season for a total of seven guaranteed games. Tournament seeding is randomly generated. Roster Formation: Rosters will be randomly assigned by staff. Teams are allowed to have up to four hand-picked players on the roster. This includes the head coach’s kid(s), and one assistant coach’s kid(s). The remainder of the roster will be assigned by staff. Equipment Provided: Practice balls, game balls, NFL Flag jerseys, and flags. Players are responsible for cleats and pants/ shorts. Practices: Each team will practice once during the week and once on the weekend until the start of the league. Once the league starts you will only practice on the weekend. Practices begin the week of August 26. Game Schedule: Tuesday and Thursday nights, between 5:30pm-9:00pm. Games are one hour long. Games will be played under the lights. Location: U6 Games will be played at West Park, U8-U10 Games will be played at Cave Hollow Park. Coaches Meeting: Will be held the week of August 20. LITTLE KICKERS SOCCER SUPER KICKERS SOCCER League Format: Co-Ed league for children five and six years old. The season consists of six games and six practices. Practices are on Monday evenings, games are on Wednesday evenings. Equipment Provided: Practice balls, games balls, and team shirt. Players are responsible for shoes/cleats, shin guards, and pants/shorts. Location: All games and practices will be played at the West Park Soccer Complex in Warrensburg. Structure: This is a program for boys and girls ages 3-4 that are new to soccer. They will be introduced to the sport with basic fundamentals and drills lead by our staff. Parents are encouraged to get involved with the fun and participate or help assist with any drills or games. When: Monday evenings, 5:30-6:15pm. HOME SCHOOL AQUATICS (SESSION 1) Home school families are encouraged to use this class to start the week with a swimming treat! This class will help your children develop confidence and technique in their swimming abilities. This program is intended for all home school families. The fiveweek one hour class will include 40 minutes of swim lesson instruction/water safety and 20 minutes of pool fun! There will be no class September 2. SPORTS YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUES League Format: Eight regular season games, one guaranteed game in single-elimination tournament at end of season. Total of nine guaranteed games. Roster Formation: Rosters will be randomly assigned. Teams are allowed to have up to three hand-picked players. This includes the head coach’s kid(s), and one assistant coach’s kid(s). The remainder of the roster will be assigned by staff. Coaches Meeting: All coaches meetings will be held at the Community Center during the week of November 11. Staff will contact all coaches in advance with times and dates. Game Schedule: Games are played on either Friday evenings, (5:30pm-8:30pm) or Saturdays (8:30am-8pm). A Sunday game could be possible as a makeup game, but no Sundays will be a part of the regular schedule. Schedule may be extended beyond current end date if inclement weather occurs. Practices: Each team will practice once during the week (Monday-Thursday) 5:30-9:30pm. Practice times will be selected at the coach meeting. Equipment Provided: Practice balls, games balls, and jerseys. Players are responsible for shoes/shorts. Participant and/or participant’s parent or legal guardian, if participantis not of legal age of consent, knows and understands by attending or registering WPR activities, that the City of Warrensburg may be taking and using digital images or photographs of this event and that the individual has no expectation of privacy by participating in the event. By registering for this activity, parent is acknowledging that there is no legal prohibition of the parent or legal guardian’s ability to consent to the taking and use of images to promote this activity and fully consents to the City of Warrensburg’s usage of any images generated in conjunction with this activity. The parent or legal guardian must inform Parks and Recreation staff if there is any reason which would preclude the use of images taken in conjunction with this activity for promotional purposes only.

REFUND POLICY

Recreation Programs – Refunds may be given for injury or illness(with Dr. note). 100% refund if cancelled by WPR. Prorated if program has begun. No refund after program is completed. Sports/Athletics – Full or prorated refunds may be given based on date of request, less processing fees. No refund after schedule is released. Special rules apply to Team Sports. Membership Passes – Only Annual Memberships are eligible. Prorated, less processing fees. Facility Rentals – 30 days before: 100% refund less processing fee. 15-29 days before: 50% refund. 0-14 days before: No refund. Shelter Rentals – Non-Refundable. All approved refunds are subject to processing fees. Other restrictions/rules apply, see website for full details. Rules and policies are subject to change.
