Nassif Aquatic Center,

located in Grover Park, was named in honor of Alex S. Nassif. Mr. Nassif, an immigrant from Beirut, Lebanon, moved to Warrensburg and opened a shoe repair shop in the 1930's. After serving in World War II, he returned to Warrensburg where he lived until he passed away in 1979. Alex gave his life savings to the City of Warrensburg. The money was primarily used to build the Nassif Aquatic Center.

Nassif opens in May, season passes are on sale now! We Focus on FUN!

from the director

Summer is coming and with it comes so many fun things in Parks and Recreation. Our parks will be filled with families picnicking, sharing time at reunions and birthdays or just taking in the bounty of beauty we are so fortunate to have here in Warrensburg.

Each year we offer a variety of camps to keep the youth of the community active and involved. This year, we will have Summer Day Camp, Aqua Camp, Mini-Munchkin Camp Soccer and Track Camp. Something fun for everyone! Nassif opens in May and we expect to stay busy. Between birthday parties, swimming lessons, and three free sponsored swims, the pool will be the place to be this summer!

Quest! Summer Day Camp Summer Day Camp is a cornerstone of Parks and Recreation’s offerings. Each year the camp provides a safe, fun, and active environment for over 200 local children. Here are a few benefits campers receive from attending summer day camp: • • • • • • •

Stay active - Camp is action! Confidence - Camp teaches kids they CAN! Unplug from technology - Camp is real! Independence - Camp develops who they are! Social skills - Camp builds teamwork! Reconnect with nature - Camp gets kids outside! Make true friends - Camp creates friendships!

Always a highlight of the summer, Freedom Fest will be a centerpiece of Summer in the Burg. Parks and Rec‘s staff is thrilled to be combining efforts once more with Grover Park Baptist Church and the American Legion Post 131. We will all work together to bring the community a spectacular display of fireworks, free hot dogs and an event that provides the opportunity to catch up with old friends or make new.

In addition to field trips and activities, WPR provides free meals through the Summer Lunch Program. This program is possible through a grant for people 18 and under.

I can’t wait to see you all out there!

Embark on a Quest for fun with WPR this summer!
