8. Personal statement Please provide a personal statement that sets out your reasons for undertaking the course. If you are applying for postgraduate study this is your opportunity to tell selectors about your area of interest.

I could not imagine how I would have grown up without the community center next to our house. Previously, I spent most of my childhood time at home, only staying with grandparents because the design of high-density apartment buildings had segregated children from each other and diminished our interactions. But when many families with similar concerns agreed with the fundraising and built a community center, I was immersed in the ecstasy with peers from dawn to sunset. And that was the first time I perceived the necessity of a proper design and how it could improve my childhood life. Then my interest in architecture initiated.

The unique feature of architecture is that it is an art with practical aspects that could solve social issues. As a container of people's daily lives, it fundamentally shaped human behaviors by innovations instead of laws, which are sometimes not persuasive. In my problem-solving design method, I would first discover issues, redefine and alter people's actions, thus concertizing the unknown and working out the problem. Just as Rem Koolhaas, my favorite architect, did in the Seattle City Library, he imported dancing and other derived social activities, something previously unimaginable, into the library. His design solution has properly improved the dynamism of the landmark and encouraged more to gather.

Hence, when I propose a project, I would access it from its social issues and analyze the causes of them as well as any related factors. With such preparations, I will decide on the human behaviors to heal the issues and determine projects' functionality to shape those behaviors. With these manipulations, I could reach my design goal of solving related problems, and this expectation has been addressed in a series of projects in my portfolio.

For example, I proposed a children's care center to ease the border conflicts, especially improving kids' education conditions, providing them a safe, and enhancing their hope for the future. In the project "Enjoy the Time," I also designed a building for those with high working pressure to relax and rejuvenate. Therefore, I hope these attempts could fulfill my responsibility as a designer and elevate others' life experiences.

My willingness to pursue a master's degree in the United Kingdom is because numerous thoughts are interweaving and clashing in the UK, and that would be appropriate for me to testify my innovative ideas and problem-solving design attempts. And this feature satisfies my willingness to use my innovative ideas to ease social conflicts, and I would like to delve further into this aspect in the UK. Meanwhile, my exchange experience at UAL has strengthened my recognition of this design ideology. For instance, we participated in a community renovation which aimed to solve the generation gap and a series of related issues. We tested people's reaction

to our proposal through our experiment onsite, which was only a pavilion by then, and later we designed our project accordingly. Such a systematic and experimenting design style had revolutionized my previous one, which leaned too much towards appearance, and had strengthened my determination to seek higher education in the UK.

When it comes to my selection of dream schools, I believe that MSA 's Master of Architecture （March） program perfectly fits my academic goal. As a prestigious school that strives to push the boundary and explore the potential of future lives in contemporary cities, MSA will provide practical training for students to access their designs from various directions and combat the global crisis. The courses at MSA will release my mind and encourage me to imagine, experiment, and analyze. Then I could testify those ideologies with professional platforms, which matches my expectations.

Especially the mutual ateliers, encourages lots of testing in this field. For example, the &rchitecture Atelier ,I really hope to study in this atelier, I believe the peer & peer study and testing mode really suits me to pursue my own interests and develop my own trajectory.
