At the Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority, the mission is caring for nature so nature can care for everyone. Since 1993, the Authority has worked to protect open spaces and agricultural lands and connect people to nature. While the word “infrastructure” isn’t usually associated with beauty or inspiration, in the case of nature, it’s both of those and more. The natural landscapes within and surrounding the Santa Clara Valley take care of us in countless ways—provided we take care of them. Come and discover your open spaces. Preserves are free to visit, open year-round, and offer opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, environmental education, and more.

Downtown is packed with local art, food, wine, crafts, and festivals. But it’s also a vibe that permeates central Morgan Hill and the surrounding area. It’s down to earth—like a farmer sharing the story behind their stone fruit at the farmers market—and up for anything—like late night dancing at the glam Granada.
Discover what makes the heart of
Shopping, dining, performances, inspiration: Downtown has it all. Here’s how to experience as much of it as possible in one day.

FUN AFTER DARK
Cap your downtown evening at a themed 21-and-up dance party at historic Granada Theatre, catch a show at South Valley Civic Theatre, or team with friends and family to puzzle your way free at MPower Escape Rooms
More than 35 shops and restaurants downtown!

your morning at MOHI Farm, where the tractor out front signals you’re in the right place. With hearty breakfasts, lighter brunch fare, lattes, and a sunny outdoor patio, it’s a family-friendly spot that has something for everyone. Afterward, let the kids stretch their legs at nearby Railroad Park, a gated, secure play space perfect for toddlers to run freely.
Next, stroll to Cura Contemporary, downtown’s striking new art space, open to all ages with rotating exhibits and a robust set of workshops and classes. For lunch, stop at Craft Roots, downtown’s only vegan restaurant. Try one of their 100% plant-based takes on classic comfort foods, including chili cheeze fries,
buffalo cauliflower bites, and wood-fired pizza.
In the afternoon, pop into Luxe Flower Bar, a cafe, bistro, and floral shop where you can sip coffee or bubbles while designing your own bouquet. As the day winds down, happy hour beckons—try Alara Cellars or Ancora Vino, or head to Sushi Confidential for a signature roll and a cocktail.
Dinner brings a choice: the elevated fare of Ladera Grill, one of Morgan Hill’s first fine-dining spots, or the welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere of Mama Mia’s, just off the main drag. Your choice may depend on how many kids are in your party.
Before calling it a night, grab dessert at Chocotella Crepes, admire the twinkling lights, and, if you’re still going strong, end at The Running Shop and Hops or Kelly Brewing Company for a final toast.

At Sidewalk Saturdays, a community of creators comes together to share its wares.
During 2020, Sidewalk Saturdays began as a way to build community and support local makers during a trying time. The pop-up was so popular that it continues to take over most of East Third Street on the second Saturday of each month from May to December. Some 50 local makers, crafters, and small retailers (from a rotating pool of 100) fill the roadway and sidewalks. They include:
Misngars Gemnairs, makers of distinctive arrangements of air plants, stones, and gems
Beautiful Mess, offering handwoven macramé wall hangings and plant hangers, as well as screen-printed clothes
Clay & Spice, creating hypoallergenic artisan polymer-clay earrings
MNR Woodcraft, with custom carved wood pieces, from charcuterie boards to patriotic wall art
And the event has lately expanded with the Twilight Market, a quarterly, themed Thursday evening edition under the stars. Market themes have included summer kickoff and back-to-school block parties, as well as a “Pumpkins on 3rd” Halloween marketplace.

Approachable, affordable, and acclaimed wineries make Morgan Hill an oenophile scene worth discovering. By Ethan Fletcher
Before it became a worldwide hub for technology, Silicon Valley was “the Valley of the Heart’s Delight,” a celebrated growing region
A CENTURY OF EXCELLENCE
Since 1925, Guglielmo Winery has made and sold wine in Morgan Hill. The family operation that began in a basement now encompasses an 85-acre estate and a collection of award-winning vintages.
known for its fertile soil and temperate Mediterranean climate. In the early 19th century, the valley drew French and Italian immigrants who harnessed the area’s fruitfulness by planting European grapes. In nearby San Jose, they started Almaden Vineyards, California’s first commercial winery, in 1852. That makes the modern-day Santa Clara Valley American Viticultural Area one of the oldest wine-producing regions on the West Coast.
That pioneering spirit and winemaking know-how live on in Morgan Hill, which is home to one of the most diverse and underrated sipping scenes in northern California. In-the-know oenophiles are increasingly bypassing long lines, eye-popping tasting fees, and stuffy vibes elsewhere for the valley’s approachable, family-owned tasting rooms and historic, homespun wineries. The picturesque vineyard properties tucked throughout these valleys and foothills bridge the fertile Santa Clara Valley and Santa Cruz Mountains AVA regions.
With 15 wineries within 15 minutes, downtown Morgan Hill is the perfect launching pad for wine adventures. Downtown proper boasts Alara Cellars’ contemporary tasting room, while a quick drive leads to experiences that echo the region’s Old World origins. A mansion and grounds straight out of a European fairy tale wow at Castillo’s Hillside Shire Winery; Lightpost Winery’s co-winemakers Christian Roguenant and Sofia Fedotova craft refined Rhône- and Bordeaux-style blends; and historic third-generation estate vineyard Guglielmo Winery, founded by Italian immigrants, just celebrated its centennial. Head a few minutes north to enjoy cabernets, zinfandels, and robust reds at P & V or J Winston wineries, which are nestled in the beautiful Coyote Valley.
Head south along Watsonville Road to uncork scenic Uvas Valley wineries, including estate-grown reds at Kirigin Cellars’ serene 1916 winery and boutique wines with retro vibes at hip newcomer Horse Thief Vineyards
South of Morgan Hill are San Martin’s charming owner-operated wineries. Little Uvas Vineyards has become a local favorite for its award-winning wines, $10 wood-fired pizza nights, and a tasting room that doubles as a classic car garage. Lion Ranch Vineyards & Winery offers estate-grown Rhône- and Provence-style wines in a backyard-style setting, while Moose Mountain Vineyards pours sweeping sunset Bordeaux tastings at its hilltop property east of town.
MORGAN HILL WINE COUNTRY BOASTS GORGEOUS WEDDING VENUES FOR YOUR SPECIAL DAY.
A raised stone altar overlooking oak-dotted hills reinforces the intimate, boutique feel at EmmaLily Winery
Guglielmo Winery’s century-old Italianinspired grounds exude character, while offering the flexibility to host weddings big and small.
J Winston Winery weaves the pastoral charm of the Coyote Valley into ceremonies at its custom-built wedding altar.
CordeValle Winery conducts ceremonies on a manicured grand lawn with stunning views and receptions in a European-style stone terrace.
Olive trees, rolling hills, and a beautifully lit barrel room contribute to a naturally elegant backdrop at MOHI Ranch

COTTAGE CREEK VINEYARDS IS A LIFELONG VISION MADE REAL.

DENISE RUSSELL OF COTTAGE CREEK VINEYARDS SUGGESTS WINES TO MATCH WITH THREE OF MORGAN HILL’S SIGNATURE AGRICULTURAL CROPS.
CHERRIES
The 2020 Pinot Noir, with beautiful, complex aromas of chocolate-covered cherry, hints of vanilla, nutmeg, and wafer.
TOMATOES
The 2023 Reflection Sauvignon Blanc, which is well balanced with medium body, medium-plus acidity, and exceptional depth.
PEACHES
The 2023 Discovery Riesling, with fresh, clean, expressive aromas of green apple and pear that coat the palate.
The Cottage Creek Vineyards story mirrors the approachable appeal of Morgan Hill wine country writ large. Owners Sam and Denise Russell are local businesspeople—Sam owns an HVAC sales company, and Denise has run an upscale hair salon for nearly 40 years—who work overtime with friends and their four kids to realize their wine dreams.
The couple purchased their rustic Uvas Valley property in 2014. Over the next six years, they built a Mediterranean-inspired house, planted estate cabernet vines, and hired a winemaker who shared their passion for red blends.
Their hard work paid off when Morgan Hill Times readers voted Cottage Creek best local winery in 2025. It’s easy to see why. Sam keeps up the scenic property, backdropped by Uvas Creek, century-old oak trees, and vintage cars that he restores himself, while Denise runs a robust social media presence.
They both blend the reds visitors enjoy with full table service, live music, and tasting notes from the owners themselves.
“That’s part of the experience,” Denise says. “We love people, and we love talking about our wine. People really enjoy that.”

GILROY WINERIES SHINE.
Yet another unexpected gem lies westward as you climb into the Santa Cruz Mountains foothills along Hecker Pass Road. Sloping stands of redwoods backdrop the vines at Fortino Winery
A half-mile down the road, expansive views, bocce courts, and cool-weather pinots await at Sarah’s Vineyard Secluded on a stretch of Redwood Retreat Road is Martin Ranch, which offers over 15 rich red and white varietals.

During their 30-plus-year friendship, Heather Gallegos and Christina Perez have bonded over raising families and joint travel excursions. But it was a shared love for wine and entrepreneurship that led these accomplished Silicon Valley professionals to kickstart their passion project: the Morgan Hill Wine Trolley. It was an immediate hit after launching in summer 2024, with sold-out tours credited for boosting local wine tourism. In 2025, they added a chic new trolley called “El Toro” to their fleet for weddings and private events.
They credit their success to a laser focus on providing guests with an experience that is informative but also fun and high-energy. Music is part of every tour, and the Wine Trolley regularly hosts special themed tours devoted to particular musicians or works, including Prince’s Purple Rain and Mamma Mia! (Singing along is strongly encouraged on these tours.)
Another secret to their success: the underrated Morgan Hill wine scene itself. “The region’s wineries offer a diverse selection and personal engagement,” Gallegos points out. “Often, the individual pouring the wine is also the one responsible for harvesting the grapes and serves as the winemaker or owner capable of recounting the narrative behind each varietal.”
In Morgan Hill, the person pouring your wine is often also the one harvesting the grapes and making the wine. They can recount the narrative behind each varietal.

Just a half hour from Silicon Valley, Morgan Hill feels a world away—where rolling hills, farms, and markets showcase the Golden State’s natural abundance.
BY JIMMY RYALS
In Morgan Hill, farms, orchards, and vineyards are interlaced with neighborhoods, schools, and business parks, blending agriculture seamlessly with everyday life. Where else is a historic vineyard right across the street from a high school? The farmland’s blossoming branches and ripening rows of crops are as much a part of this place as the charming shops downtown. And the welcome offered to visitors is as warm as the long Mediterranean summer that blesses our farms.
This is a laid-back place where agriculture and commerce are woven together. Morgan Hill farms are part of the social fabric: Weekend market traffic feels more like a picnic than a shopping frenzy, and you might even spot people riding horseback past the cherry orchards.
Plucking your own fruit from a vine or tree is one of the best ways to feel our signature blend of cultivation and culture. Several large and family-owned farms offer that experience during spring and summer.
U Pick Orchards, run by fourth-generation farmer Chris Borello, is a favorite for locals and visitors alike. During peak cherry season, thousands of visitors pluck sweet Bings or Coral Champagnes on the 15-acre farm.
Mariani Orchards is another U pick option, with

several varieties of cherries and apricots in the summer. The family-run orchard has been in business for nearly 70 years.
Next door, Andy’s Orchard is one of the preeminent heirloom stone fruit growers on the West Coast. It’s a rustic, welcoming spot with a small farm-shop atmosphere—fresh fruit, dried goods, preserves, and a relaxed sense you’re stepping off the main road into something slower and rooted.
Pulling your own produce is just one way to get firsthand farm experience in Morgan Hill. Terra Amico Farms offers another. Gourmet farmto-table dinners there showcase Terra Amico’s organic heirloom tomatoes and unforgettable grounds, as well as local chefs’ ingenuity.
Each farm makes essential contributions to the food and the feel of Morgan Hill: the sense that farming is accessible, participatory, and woven into everyday life.

The Morgan Hill Farmers’ Market, open yearround at Depot Station, features local farms and organic produce from across the Bay Area. Its offerings include heirloom vegetables, cultivated fruits, and handcrafted goods sold directly by growers. For locals, Saturday mornings at the market are as much a social ritual as an errand—a relaxed time to browse, chat, taste, and connect.
On the horizon is Fattoria Public Market & Food Hub, a planned European-style public market that will aim to create connections between small agricultural producers and consumers.
Agriculture is integral to Morgan Hill’s growing wine and culinary identity. Morgan Hill’s winemakers, chefs, brewers, and farmers draw from shared agricultural roots to create a bespoke culinary culture. Restaurants emphasize seasonal, farmfresh menus that source ingredients locally, and the
Morgan Hill Wine Trolley has specialty farm tours. The preservation of visible orchards and vineyards help reinforce that Morgan Hill is a place where food, land, and hospitality meet.

MORGAN HILL FARMERS AND CHEFS
SHARE A PASSION FOR AGRICULTURE.
When Joe Ranieri planted the first batch of tomatoes on his five-acre property, he didn’t want to become a farmer. He and his wife, Lisa, just wanted to cook together.
Nine years later, the same instinct animates the couple’s work at Terra Amico Farms. Ranieri’s organically raised heirloom tomatoes are prized among area chefs, and they’re the centerpiece of the farm dinners that have become Terra Amico’s signature.
Several times a year, they invite a local chef to craft a five- to seven-course meal that celebrates local ingredients and gives diners rare insight into how food happens. The evening starts with a glass of local wine and a tour of the farm. Over the next five hours, the chef introduces each course. Local musicians play and area cider or beer brewers share their wares.
“It’s a whole different experience than just showing up to a restaurant, eating, and leaving,” Ranieri says.

Ranieri is working on a new venture that would create even more connections with local farmers. When it opens just south of Morgan Hill in late 2027 or early 2028, Fattoria Public Market will be a nonprofit “agricultural park” that gives growers everything they need to sell directly to consumers: a farmers market, commissary kitchen, cold storage, events space, beer and wine garden, and more.
At MOHI Farm, it can be hard to tell where farm ends and table begins.
The restaurant’s menu teems with dishes highlighting local farm products, many from the in-house farm at MOHI Ranch. Broccoli and leek soup, seven or more salads, blistered shishito peppers, the farm-fresh herbs that season a host of dishes: They go from field to kitchen without leaving the MOHI family.
A lot of our vegetables are in the ground in the morning and on the plate at dinner. I love vegetables with a little dirt on them.
LANCE
RAMHURST, EXECUTIVE CHEF, MOHI FARM
“We emphasize working with local farms and local produce,” says executive chef Lance Ramhurst. “There are a lot of proud people in Morgan Hill, and MOHI Farm has adopted that love for the city.”
The star of seasonal local offerings, Ramhurst says, is a street corn riblet dish made with corn from LJB Farms in San Martin, just outside Morgan Hill. Strips of corncob go into the fryer and come out looking like a rattlesnake. They’re bathed in a sweet corn puree, garnished with pickled onions, and only available for a few months. But customers ask for them all year.

SIP YOUR STONE FRUIT
We love our farmers’ fresh peaches, apricots, cherries, plums, and nectarines. They’re also great fermented, thanks to some potent partnerships between area farmers and brewers.
Bada Bing is a cherry cider made by TenFiveOne Cider Co., using bing cherries from Borello Family Farms

FARM-TO-TABLE CUISINE began in Northern California as an ode to fresh local ingredients and the relationships that deliver them to us. The bonds among farmers, chefs, vintners, brewers, and diners still shape every bite in Morgan Hill’s fiercely local food scene.

It’s
all here, from fine dining to familystyle Italian, seafood to BBQ.
VÉRA
Located inside Cura Contemporary gallery, Véra is where the visual, architectural, and culinary arts collide. It’s an upscale restaurant featuring fresh, vibrant plates and cocktails that spotlight local ingredients—especially seafood.
CRAFT ROOTS
VEGAN BAR & GRILL
Craft Roots is the area’s only 100% plant-based restaurant. The menu features comfort dishes like mac ’n’ cheeze, wood-fired pizzas, veggie bowls, and salads sourced from local farms. Gotham magazine named Craft Roots one of the nation’s top vegan restaurants.

LADERA GRILL
One of the top finedining destinations in the Silicon Valley area, Ladera Grill boasts USDA Prime steaks, fresh seafood, and an award-winning wine list in a sophisticated setting. Housed in the historic Skeels Building, it’s a Morgan Hill institution.
GIORGIO’S ITALIAN GRILL & PIZZERIA
Giorgio’s Italian Grill & Pizzeria delivers family atmosphere with generous portions and ample space for conversation on a covered patio or inside. Try the sausage bread, a favorite dish with a long history.
TRAIL DUST BARBECUE
You’ll smell Trail Dust
Barbecue long before you see it. The pitmasters start smoking brisket, pork, ribs, and chicken early and close when the meat sells out. That happens pretty often, so you’ll want to follow that first whiff of wood smoke.
ROSY’S AT THE BEACH
Morgan Hill is an hour from the ocean. That distance disappears at Rosy’s at the Beach, where the ambience is as casual as flip-flops and the menu is full of local seafood.
A CULINARY COMMUNITY COMES TOGETHER. Visit Morgan Hill on the right October weekend and you might bump into chefs you’ve seen on TV. They come for MOHI Food & Wine Festival, where local and national culinary celebrities join artisans and winemakers to raise money for hospitality programs in local schools.

COCHI’S KITCHEN
SILICON VALLEY IS FULL OF PEOPLE WHO LEFT GOOGLE TO FOUND A STARTUP. ONLY IN MORGAN HILL CAN YOU FIND A CHEF WHO DID IT.
Before opening Cochi’s Kitchen, chef Manny Vasquez cooked in the cafeteria at Google’s Mountain View headquarters. With new menus daily, it was stressful work— and excellent seasoning for the handmade experience he’s built at Cochi’s.
We’re not a cookiecutter place. You’ll always see different things here because we’re working with different ingredients and techniques and inspirations.
MANNY VASQUEZ, CHEF/OWNER, COCHI’S KITCHEN
Vasquez launched the deli in 2022 off of the catering operation he ran with his wife, Gabby Crescini. All the meats, including much-loved chorizo, tri-tip, bacon, and pastrami, are processed in house. Every sauce, pickle, and piece of bread is custom made, without the seed oils or artificial sweeteners that are common elsewhere.
“We’re trying to pull off unique, one-timeonly flavors,” Vasquez says. “When people come in and taste our barbecue sauce, we want them to say, ‘This is different.’”
Local produce is key to the experience.
Cochi’s sandwiches often spotlight the growing season: Think of a January panini with turkey and persimmon compote or a summertime caprese with juicy red tomatoes.

Morgan Hill’s collaborative culinary culture welcomes you.
There’s a tight connection between culinary culture and agriculture here because of the proximity to working farms and orchards. At Mediterranean Odeum and 100% plant-based Craft Roots, the produce on your dinner plate may have been in the ground at breakfast, either in their own gardens or on a local farm.
MOHI Farm restaurant, downtown, is the ultimate farm-to-table experience, with eggs, greens, and other ingredients sourced from its sister farm off Watsonville Road.
The area’s agricultural bounty also inspires culinary innovation. Pre-Hispanic MX Cuisine’s uncompromising take on Mexican and

Cochi’s Kitchen’s handcrafted experiments both emerged from Morgan Hill’s vibrant pop-up cuisine scene.
Morgan Hill also offers elevated dining destinations. Ladera Grill is a longtime favorite for its Prime steaks, award-winning wine list, and sophisticated ambience. At Véra, located inside Cura Contemporary art gallery, the menu spotlights high-quality seafood in dishes as inventive as the art that surrounds them. And Willard Hicks delivers luscious steaks and chophouse fare in a warm, welcoming environment right in the heart of downtown.
Our collaborative culinary culture comes alive at community events like the MOHI Food & Wine Festival, where local and celebrity chefs raise money for education.
Sharing tacos with friends or lingering over an elegant dinner downtown, you’ll feel the creativity and commitment of all the artisans who shaped it.

Odeum pairs Mediterranean cuisine with expert-chef artistry.

From festive patios to low-key walk-up windows, each spot has its own spirit, as well as a distinctive twist on this simple yet quintessentially California dish.

SUSHI CONFIDENTIAL
THE FORMER CANCER RESEARCHER CURATES UNCONVENTIONAL PAIRINGS AT HIS MORGAN HILL RESTAURANT.
Chef Randy Musterer wanted to create experiences that had never happened in Morgan Hill. He did it with collaborations that could only happen here.
His Sip-and-Sushi dinners, the product of those partnerships, have become signature events. Each month, Musterer’s team works with a local winery to tailor an eightor 10-course menu to a selection of local labels. One recent Sip-and-Sushi matched estate picpoul blanc from Lion Ranch Winery with a hamachi-miso ceviche. Dessert paired sparkling blanc de blancs with green tea ice cream and a blondie made from roasted soybean flour.
The unconventional fare reflects Musterer’s unusual path to the food industry. Before opening the first Sushi Confidential in Campbell in 2012, Musterer was a cancer researcher for 17 years. He spent much of that time moonlighting at a local sushi bar and started a sushi pop-up at home.
The farm-to-table scene in Morgan Hill is something to admire. It’s almost like a farmers’ market every day here.
RANDY MUSTERER, FOUNDER/CEO, SUSHI CONFIDENTIAL
Morgan Hill emerged as a possibility while Musterer was working the restaurant’s concession stand at Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View. During a country music show, a slew of Morgan Hill residents told him his food would be a hit here.
In 2020, a vacancy in the heart of downtown gave Musterer the opportunity he’d been looking for.
The rest is Morgan Hill culinary history.
Morgan Hill has a small but mighty beer and cocktail scene. Here are six locations for libations.
The brewers here are old school, using classic open-fermentation techniques to make their wide variety of ales, IPAs, sours, and stouts.
If it’s brewed and bubbly, you can find it here. The Running Shop has 86 taps and hundreds of canned beers, ciders, seltzers, kombuchas, and alcohol-free drinks.
Santa Clara County’s only cidery, TenFiveOne uses local fruit to make some of its blends. Try their wares at their tasting room, downtown Morgan Hill restaurants, or the annual Northern California Renaissance Faire, which runs in the fall at Casa de Fruta.
Built around four old grain silos, this restaurant and bar honors Morgan Hill’s farming history and features a revolving slate of creative cocktails.
This downtown spot specializes in pairing local bistro fare with a vast array of wines, champagnes, and beers. Also: Check out the organic, grain-free food menu for pets.

Champagne and other French wines are the focus at Luxe, which features a vending machine that dispenses mini-bottles of Moët & Chandon, plus an array of spritzes and bistro favorites. It’s also a great spot for morning coffee and pastries.

Located in the scenic center of downtown Morgan Hill, Stacks serves up a classic breakfast and lunch menu packed with a variety of dishes made fresh daily. Try the homemade pancakes topped with fresh fruit and whipped cream, the French toast made with three thick slices of Texas toast, or the fluffy Belgian waffles while sipping a mimosa on the patio. You’ll also find a gluten-free menu and plenty of plant-based options, from the Impossible Burger to the Mexican omelet. Open seven days a week, Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m.–2 p.m., and Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 7 a.m.–2:30 p.m.

Open Spaces for All
California contains multitudes, and nowhere is its wide array of outdoor activities more apparent than in and around Morgan Hill.
With the open spaces near Morgan Hill, it’s really about the experience you’re looking for: wildflowers, unbelievable views of surrounding peaks, glimpsing wildlife and raptors. You can’t go wrong.
ANDREA MCKENZIE, GENERAL MANAGER, SANTA CLARA VALLEY OPEN SPACE AUTHORITY

This narrow valley is home to a vast ecosystem of flora and fauna, some of which can only be found here. Our parks and preserves protect the land, as well as the plant and animal life it supports. Whether you seek rest or recreation, we have natural spaces for every pursuit.
It took millions of years for the Santa Cruz and Diablo mountain ranges to rise and shape the rolling, rich valley where Morgan Hill sits today.
BUILT FOR BIKES
Morgan Hill’s cycling culture runs deep.
Specialized Bicycle Components is based here, and its downtown shop, Bike Therapy, is a hangout for local riders. Also beloved by those riders: the area’s mountain and city trails.

The Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority (OSA) works tirelessly to protect nature’s creation for thousands of years to come. The group has permanently preserved more than 30,000 acres of hills, valleys, meadows, and woodlands for people and wildlife.
“These open spaces offer a respite from your phone and from the city,” says Andrea McKenzie, general manager of the Santa Clara Valley OSA. “You can find beauty and solace in nature and an outdoor experience.”
The Santa Clara Valley OSA also protects land for long-term use as working farms. One of the best examples is Spina Farms, a pumpkin patch that’s been a fall favorite for locals since 1944.
For much of the year, it’s an unassuming 60-acre farm. From September to November, though, the fields are overtaken by animatronic dinosaurs, hay rides, and a corn maze. This unique experience makes Spina Farms one of the most popular pumpkin patches in the San Francisco Bay area.

UVAS CANYON COUNTY
PARK | A shaded paradise
famed for its seasonal waterfalls, Uvas Canyon is perfect for leisurely hikes along babbling creeks. The Waterfall Loop trail rewards with multiple cascades, while picnic areas and nature observation make the park ideal for families, bird-watchers, photographers, and casual walkers.

Can a place that covers 87,000 acres be a hidden gem? It can if it’s Henry W. Coe State Park, Northern California’s largest, yet lesser known state park. Easy strolls or arduous climbs up 3,560foot Mt. Stakes, the park’s 250 miles of trails suit any hiking adventure.
Anglers find opportunity here, too. Ponds and lakes brim with largemouth bass, green sunfish, crappie, and bluegill (you’ll need a California fishing license).
COYOTE VALLEY OPEN SPACE PRESERVE | Rolling hills and wide-open views make Coyote Valley ideal for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. The 4-mile Arrowhead Loop trail offers steady, gentle climbs and valley overlooks, while spring brings wildflower blooms. Wildlife sightings—and even some grazing cows—are common, offering a true nearurban wilderness escape.
RANCHO CAÑADA DEL ORO OPEN SPACE PRESERVE
This expansive preserve features oak-studded hills and meadows, with trails ranging from easy, stroller-friendly loops to demanding climbs. Popular with hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians, it offers panoramic views of the Diablo Range. The Mayfair Ranch trail is a great spot to glimpse Mt. Umunhum, one of the highest peaks in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Night hikes and stargazing events make it a favorite year-round destination.
MÁYYAN ‘OOYÁKMA–COYOTE RIDGE OPEN SPACE PRESERVE | Known for rare wildflowers and threatened wildlife, this ridgetop preserve offers guided hikes through serpentine grasslands. Springtime is spectacular, with carpets of color, butterfly migrations, and the occasional sighting of tule elk. Elevation gains challenge seasoned hikers, and sweeping valley vistas reward nature enthusiasts and photographers alike.
ANDERSON LAKE COUNTY PARK & COYOTE CREEK
PARKWAY | Currently limited due to reservoir construction, Anderson Lake still offers trail access to the scenic Coyote Creek Parkway and Visitor Center. Cyclists and runners love the paved multiuse path that winds through wetlands and cottonwood groves. Picnic areas and open fields make it a versatile outdoor hub.
COYOTE LAKE–HARVEY BEAR RANCH COUNTY PARK
A favorite for boating, kayaking, and fishing, Coyote Lake also boasts miles of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding through golden hills. Campgrounds accommodate both tents and RVs. Wildlife sightings, including wild turkeys and boar, add to the rugged South Bay adventure vibe.
CALERO COUNTY PARK
Calero Lake welcomes motorboats, paddleboards, and kayaks, while surrounding hills offer scenic trails for hikers, bikers, and equestrians. Remote backcountry routes provide solitude and grassy ridge views.
CHESBRO RESERVOIR
COUNTY PARK | A peaceful fishing destination, Chesbro Reservoir is full of bass and catfish. The shoreline invites quiet walks, wildlife viewing, and photography. It’s more tranquil than busier parks.
Every fall, male tarantulas emerge from the hills around Morgan Hill, meandering along roads and trails in search of mates.
Don’t be afraid! They’re harmless (although they do like some space). The annual tarantula migration inspired one of Morgan Hill’s most striking public art pieces, the sculpture on the East Fourth Street parking deck.

Morgan Hill is one of California’s top tournament and competition sites. Here, world-class facilities are within walking distance of several quality hotels, and area restaurants are minutes away. That takes the hassle out of travel for organizers, players, and their families.

Five of those fields are fully LED-lit, so the games can stretch into the night if necessary. Scoreboards and concession areas offer everything you need to run a successful event or festival.
The outdoor sports center has been home to everything from Cal North State Cup district soccer tournaments, to a San Francisco 49ers girls’ flag football camp, to regular practices for the Indoor Football League’s Bay Area Panthers.

Cura Contemporary: as striking as the art it displays. See more on page 46

From live theater and art walks to concerts and creative workshops, Morgan Hill is bursting with artistic energy. We celebrate creativity year-round, offering residents and visitors indelible opportunities to experience and participate in a distinctively vibrant local arts and culture scene.

Named one of the world’s coolest film festivals by MovieMaker magazine, Poppy Jasper brings thousands of fans to Morgan Hill and four other towns each April. It’s a celebration of storytelling that elevates independent filmmakers and underrepresented voices. The 2025 edition screened 270 works by directors from 30 countries. Poppy Jasper also showcases Morgan Hill’s food, wine, and arts scenes. In 2025, screenings happened at the Community Playhouse and Cura Contemporary art gallery. Five downtown restaurants and bars hosted events. And attendees toured area wineries—driven by the Morgan Hill Wine Trolley

SUNDANCE AND TELLURIDE MAY GET MORE BUZZ, BUT FEW FILM FESTIVALS PACK MORE PUNCH THAN SOUTH SANTA CLARA VALLEY’S POPPY JASPER INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL. ART TO MAKE AND ADMIRE Downtown fine art gallery Cura Contemporary curates exhibitions, opening events, workshops, and classes that cross mediums, skill levels, and styles.
At Cura Contemporary, established and aspiring artists get an exhibition space that’s worthy of their work.
As conceived by owner Dan McCranie and his late wife, Kathy Lee McCranie, Cura is both a gallery where 40-plus visual artists can show their work and a workshop where Morgan Hill residents and visitors can learn anything from painting to puppetry to Latin dance.
Cura opened in fall 2024 in the Edes Building, a new downtown destination designed to elevate art and
the community. Inspired by the foothills around Morgan Hill, architects created a space where art is elevated. The Edes Building is also home to Véra, a fine-dining restaurant that offers chefs and local produce the same sort of spotlight Cura gives to painters and sculptors.
“Our goal with this space is to make Cura more than just a gallery; we can envision this becoming a Silicon Valley-wide art center,” Dan
McCranie told the Morgan Hill Times when Cura opened. With Cura, the McCranies extended a legacy of support for local culinary and fine arts. Ladera Grill, their downtown restaurant, opened in 2011 and quickly became one of the area’s best restaurants. McCranie also owns Colibri Art & Framing and a downtown sister gallery that operated for many years before merging its artists, managers, and programs into Cura.

HISTORY, PRESERVED WITH PASSION
The Villa Mira Monte estate is the historic heart of Morgan Hill and a symbol of the town’s enduring charm. Built in the late 1800s as the home of Hiram Morgan Hill and his wife Diana Murphy Hill, the elegant Queen Anne–style residence once commanded vast ranchlands and even served as a regular stop for Union Pacific trains. It is the only building in Morgan Hill listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Today, the Hiram Morgan Hill House, lovingly preserved by the Morgan Hill Historical Society, anchors the heritage park that’s also home to the Morgan Hill Museum’s exhibits on local history, agriculture, and early California life.
Visitors can also stroll the ground’s Centennial History Trail, which traces key moments in the region and nation’s development, or wander through the Native American Garden, both of which reflect the natural and cultural landscapes that shaped the Santa Clara Valley.

1 South Valley Civic Theatre: South Valley Civic Theatre is a volunteerdriven community theater that puts on five annual shows in Morgan Hill and Gilroy. 2 South Valley Symphony: The South Valley Symphony is a nonprofit community orchestra based in the region south of San Jose, including Morgan Hill and Gilroy. The symphony spotlights young instrumentalists and singers with a repertoire of local performances incorporating classical and modern music.
3 Wings of History Air Museum: Located at San Martin Airport, the Wings of History Air Museum is a nonprofit dedicated to aviation heritage, restoration, education, and flight. Its collections include historic aircraft, engines, scale models, and archival materials. The museum also participates in the annual Food Truck Fly-In.
4 Youth Mariachi Festival: Typically held in late September at Britton Middle School, the Youth Mariachi Festival showcases young performers, celebrates Mexican musical tradition, and enlists the community to support youth arts.

FAMILY-FRIENDLY LIFESTYLE
25+ downtown restaurants, 19 parks, and 300 sunny days a year
Large and local manufacturers find a perfect marriage of Silicon Valley innovation, California ambition, and Central Coast approachability in Morgan Hill.
Headquartered here for 40+ years
Specialized Bicycle Components began in 1974 as founder Mike Sinyard’s effort to bring American cyclists the high-quality handlebars and stems he found while biking his way across Europe.
More than 50 years later, Specialized has become one of the biggest names in cycling. Specialized’s high-performance bikes and parts generate nearly $1 billion in sales annually, and the company’s high-tech headquarters in Morgan Hill is a major factor in its success. The 160,000-square-foot facility is equal parts company museum, tech hub, and research center. Paired with miles of road, woodland, and mountain bike trails, Specialized headquarters makes Morgan Hill a haven for world-class athletic training.

Morgan Hill has the feel of a high-tech hub coupled with the serenity of southern Silicon Valley. The city is very conducive to business and supportive of our company. The proximity to international airports is convenient for both our customers and suppliers.
SCOTT UNGER, GLOBAL CEO, TORAY ADVANCED COMPOSITES

The company’s makerspace lets specialized engineers and designers create new parts using a seven-axis computer numerical control (CNC) machine, test in a custom wind tunnel, and try them out on the bike trails that are just a short ride away.
“It’s like being a kid in a sandbox with all these tools at your disposal,” says Stewart Thompson, road and gravel product leader, in a story on the Specialized website. “You can make anything you dream up, and then you can dream up even crazier things once you see what’s possible.”
With more than 100 manufacturers in the area, Morgan Hill has emerged as a hub for innovation at the southern tip of Silicon Valley.

Whether they’re downtown, down on the farm, or on the factory floor, enterprising people in Morgan Hill find the support to turn big ideas into thriving businesses.
At least half of all active businesses in Morgan Hill are small businesses. Some fulfill a lifelong dream, like P & V Winery. Some emerged unexpectedly, like the Morgan Hill Wine Trolley. Others, like many vendors at Sidewalk Saturdays, evolved from side hustles to steady gigs.
They all reflect the mix of entrepreneurial spirit and clear vision that make Morgan Hill one of Silicon Valley’s most desirable destinations. Over the last decade, town leaders have built the infrastructure to support local ambitions. That
includes a $25 million investment in revitalizing downtown, funding for new and existing small businesses, streamlined permitting processes, and partnerships that give entrepreneurs access to vital expertise.
“Here, we know what we want to become,” says Frank Léal, who came to Morgan Hill searching for an approachable alternative to Napa Valley and built a business that includes a winery, farm, restaurant, and hotel. “Everyone—our city council, our planning commission, our economic development team—truly gets it.”

When smart investment meets bold ideas, magic happens. One example is The Granary, a renovation that turned an old industrial facility into a mixed-use space with housing, offices, dining, and shops. Two decades on, the property hosts roughly 20 businesses.
“We’re preserving our agricultural heritage and small-town atmosphere by creating a community where all residents are welcome to explore the grounds and visit restaurants, cafes, and shops,” says Lesley Miles, Granary co-owner.

Morgan Hill’s newest accommodation is Hotel MOHI by Appellation, a boutique hotel that offers what project developer Frank Leál calls “approachable luxury.” It boasts 76 rooms, a full-service spa, pool, large-capacity special event space, rooftop pool bar, and courtyards where visitors can soak up the Central Coast sun.
Its centerpiece is a collection of three restaurants from Michelin-starred chef Charlie Palmer, with concepts as diverse as the region itself: an artisanal bakery that spotlights local produce, a gamechanging chophouse, and an American eatery serving small plates in a wide range of cuisines, dim sum-style.
“Whether you walk in wearing yoga clothes or a three-piece suit, Hotel MOHI has something for you,” Leál says.
