Families cash in on great day out thanks to Government VAT cut Revesby Country Fair saw a surge in ticket sales as a result of the Great British Summer Savings scheme
Organisers of a much-loved Lincolnshire event, Revesby County Fair, have spoken of the benefits of the Great British Summer Savings scheme, after a hugely successful 2026 event. The show returned on Sunday 2nd August, welcoming thousands of visitors for a day packed full of entertainment, activities and events, with many families across Lincolnshire taking advantage of reduced ticket prices. After the Government announcement that VAT would be temporarily cut on eligible activities throughout the summer, advanced family tickets to Revesby Country Fair were reduced from £40 to £35. Organisers have now praised the Great British Summer Savings scheme after it
led to a surge in ticket sales - with 97% of advanced family tickets sold after the reduction in price. John Roe, Chairman of Revesby Country Fair, said: “The Great British Summer Savings scheme has been a great benefit to Revesby Country Fair. It allowed us to reduce the price of our family tickets, giving people the chance to come and enjoy a day out with the family for less. “After we announced the price reduction, we saw a definite spike in advanced sales of family tickets, showing that it really is making a difference to the affordability of days out for families across Lincolnshire.”
The event saw a record number of trade applications for this year’s show, with 220 businesses in attendance - selling everything from sweets and ice cream to tractors and garden furniture. Many of these were local Revesby-based businesses including Daise’s Kitchen, which is run by Daise Rodrigues and offers Brazilian and Portuguese treats. Speaking of the show, Daise said: “We had a great time. We’ve recently moved to Revesby and supporting local events and businesses is very important for us and for the community. The show was everything we expected and we had very good feedback from customers - we’ll definitely be back next year.” The 2026 show was full of memorable moments including jaw-dropping jousting displays, hands-on activities, live music, competitions and some of the best food and drink Lincolnshire has to offer. Planning is now underway for next year’s show, which will take place on Sunday 1st August 2027, promising even more fun and excitement for the whole family.
“It really is making a difference to the affordability of days out for families across Lincolnshire.” 02

Concrete pour for foundations of Sea Road building have started! Construction of a new three-storey building to house seafront visitor facilities in Cleethorpes has reached a significant milestone.
Lindum is delivering the Sea Road project for North East Lincolnshire Council, providing modern public amenities, changing facilities and lettable retail or hospitality space. The project reached a key stage on Tuesday, August 4, as works to create the concrete foundations and floor slabs began. Pours will continue over the coming weeks before the next phase, when the building’s steel frame will start to take shape. Steel supplied by ArcelorMittal Scunthorpe will be installed by Scunthorpe-based North Lincs Structures Ltd to form the framework of the building from mid September. Cllr Oliver Freeston, leader of the Council, said: “I’m really pleased that, as part of the works, we’ve been able to support steel industry companies at Scunthorpe. We need to make sure that through our projects, we support local businesses where we can to help protect jobs.”
Lindum Co-chair Ed Chambers said: “As a local Lincolnshire company, it’s really important to us to support businesses in the area, both small and large, and this was a great opportunity to make sure that money from the project is driven to local supply chain. “Demonstrating a strong commitment to the local economy, 56% of subcontractor spend to date has been with businesses based within 10 miles of the project.” Erecting the steelwork as early as possible - before the wintering bird season minimises potential visual disturbance to the wildlife, habitats and migrating birds that use the Cleethorpes coastline as a key route to continental Europe and beyond.
Designed to complement the character of the seafront, the building takes inspiration from Cleethorpes’ Art Deco heritage, with architectural references to nearby landmarks such as the Central Promenade retail kiosks and the former Electricity Board showroom on Isaac’s Hill. Once complete, the first floor will also be accessible from Pier Gardens, reinstating the historic link between the gardens and Cleethorpes Pier. You can read more about the project on www.nelincs.gov.uk/2-sea-road.

DAYS OUT
Make the most of September
The Days Out Don’t Have to End The school holidays may be over, but September is a wonderful time to rediscover some of the great days out waiting on our doorstep. The uniforms are back on, the lunchboxes have reappeared and the long summer holidays suddenly seem a distant memory. But September doesn’t mean we have to stop making time for fun. Early autumn can be one of the loveliest times to get out and about in Lincolnshire. There’s often still pleasant weather to enjoy and, for those without young children to plan around, the end of the summer holiday rush can mean quieter attractions and the chance to explore at a more leisurely pace. If the weather isn’t playing ball, a trip to Parkway Cinema is an easy way to spend an afternoon or evening. Sometimes a good film, some popcorn and a couple of hours away from everything is just what’s needed.
For something different, Lincolnshire’s fascinating aviation heritage offers plenty to discover. The International Bomber Command Centre in Lincoln is preparing for its new After Me The Flood Dambusters exhibition, which you can read more about in this issue.

Dambusters Exhibition at IBCC will be World First
More than 80 years ago the Möhne Dam in Germany was one of three dams breached in the famous ‘Dambusters’ raid. Eight Lancaster bombers were lost, 53 RAF airmen died, and the resulting floods killed nearly 1,300 people.
A unique exhibition, ‘After Me The Flood’, will show the impact of the Dambusters raid and the rapid reconstruction work
Now a unique exhibition, ‘After Me The Flood’, showing the impact of the raid and the rapid reconstruction work, is set to be unveiled at the International Bomber Command Centre (IBCC) in Lincoln. Bringing together for the first time hundreds of photographs and film recordings captured in the immediate aftermath of the Dambusters raid on the Möhne Dam in May 1943 – and during the extraordinary, harrowing 17-week reconstruction that followed – the exhibition is expected to attract historians, politicians and veterans from all over the world. It will open at the IBCC on 6th October 2026 and remain open to the public until 28th February 2027.

Sourced from town archives, private collections and local historians across the Möhne region, the exhibition images have never before been displayed collectively

In 2024 representatives of Körbecke, including the town’s Mayor Maria Moritz, visited Lincolnshire and unveiled a commemorative stone at the IBCC.
Now the IBCC is to stage the first ever public exhibition of these photographs, films and documents, showing the raids from the German perspective and continuing the process of reconciliation.

Sourced from town archives, private collections and local historians across the Möhne region, these images have never before been displayed collectively. Their arrival in Lincoln marks a rare opportunity to witness the human and environmental impact of one of the Second World War’s most iconic operations through the eyes of those who lived it. The exhibition presents a stark visual record of the devastation caused when the Möhne Dam was breached. Photographs taken by Nazi officials, local civilians and regional archivists reveal flooded landscapes, shattered communities and the immense scale of destruction downstream. Alongside these are images documenting the rapid rebuilding of the dam – a reconstruction achieved in just 17 weeks, driven by forced labour under the Nazi regime. These photographs and film reels offer a sobering counterpoint to the celebrated narrative of the Dambusters raid, highlighting the suffering endured by those compelled to restore the structure. Documentation will include letters between Barnes Wallis, the inventor of the ‘bouncing bomb’ used in the raids, and the German historian Dr Helmuth Euler, as well as a diary kept by Piet Hilkmann, a Dutch prisoner who was forced to work on the reconstruction of the Möhne Dam.

“We’re thrilled to be able to stage this unique exhibition and show these never-before-seen images and papers to the public,” said Nicky van der Drift, CEO of the International Bomber Command Centre. “Our aim is to deepen understanding of the raid, show the effects and the aftermath from the German perspective, and tell the story of what happened after the 1955 film The Dam Busters ended. “Many people’s idea of the Dambusters raid comes from the film, but it is incomplete. The new exhibition shows the harsh reality and shared suffering of war. The dams were a strategic target but the effect on the civilian and POW populations was devastating.” Nicky added: “To have these archives on display in the UK is very exciting, and it’s a great honour for the IBCC to be given permission to stage this exhibition. We are telling an important untold story, and I’m sure it’s going to create a great deal of interest both here and overseas.” Holiday park Tattershall Lakes is sponsoring the exhibition. Situated in the heart of the beautiful Lincolnshire countryside, it is a lakeside holiday park that offers the perfect blend of relaxation, adventure and family fun. Part of the Away Resorts family, which comprises of 25 parks around the UK, it’s a place where every kind of guest finds their version of the perfect break.
Carl Castledine, CEO and founder at Away Resorts, said: “We’re incredibly proud to continue our long-standing relationship with both Aviation Heritage Lincolnshire and the International Bomber Command Centre. “These organisations play a vital role in preserving the region’s remarkable history, and we’re honoured to support them while offering our guests even more opportunities to discover the rich heritage that makes Lincolnshire such a special place to visit. “Partnerships like these help create meaningful experiences that go beyond a traditional holiday, allowing visitors to connect with the local area and its stories.” Once the exhibition closes in February 2027 it will be translated into German and will tour museums, libraries and galleries in Germany, including the Museum of Military History of the Federal Forces in Berlin. The photographs and films will also be added to the IBCC Digital Archive housed by the University of Lincoln. The media will also be invited to a private launch of the exhibition on Monday 5th October 2026.
“The exhibition reveals the harsh reality and shared suffering of war – and tells an important story that has remained largely untold.” 09

10cc’s GRAHAM GOULDMAN ‘Heart Full of Songs’ Comes to LINCOLN – Drill on Tuesday 20th October 2026! For lovers of perfectly-crafted music performed by the composer, a Heart Full of Songs concert is truly an exquisite experience.
When 10cc co-founder Graham Gouldman formed what became Heart Full of Songs more than a decade ago, it was purely for the pleasure of laying the songs he wrote or cowrote in their simplest form, acoustically. It started as a three-piece supporting at 10cc concerts and quickly evolved into a stand-alone entity. These days Heart Full of Songs is a semi-acoustic/electric, four-piece with its next UK tour set for October 2026, comprising 18 concerts and culminating at London’s Cadogan Hall on 29 October. Featuring material from across Graham’s catalogue, the set includes such classics as 10cc’s I’m Not In Love and Dreadlock Holiday; Bus Stop and Look Through Any Window, which were hits for The Hollies; For Your Love and Heart Full of Soul (the Yardbirds); No Milk Today (Herman’s Hermits); Bridge To Your Heart from his time with the late Andrew Gold as Wax, along with songs from film soundtracks and his solo albums. Acknowledgement of Graham’s achievements has been growing more widely too, with him awarded an MBE in the 2025 King’s Birthday Honours list, for services to music. Also underpinning his position as one of the world’s leading songwriters were the guest contributors on his latest album, I have Notes. They include Ringo Starr, Brian May, Hank Marvin and Albert Lee. “It is extremely gratifying to do what I love, performing the songs I’ve written or co-written over the years, to audiences who really appreciate them in a semi-acoustic format,” says Graham.

“With Keith Hayman, Andy Park and Ben Stone we have a fantastic band that presents the songs with passion and to the highest musical standards. I couldn’t ask for more.” The increasing success of Heart Full of Songs shows how ever more people are keen to share the magic of the music with its composer. The Heart Full of Songs band: Graham Gouldman vocals, acoustic guitar, bass guitar, ukulele. Keith Hayman vocals, keyboards, acoustic guitar, bass guitar, Melodica. Andy Park vocals, acoustic guitar, bass guitar, ukulele. Ben Stone percussion, vocals.

A new season, a chance to rediscover local
On the High Street
As summer gives way to autumn, September is a lovely time to slow the pace, shop locally and rediscover what’s on our doorstep. September always seems to bring a change of pace. The children are back at school, summer holidays are becoming happy memories and our thoughts begin to turn towards the season ahead and all that the autumn months will bring. It’s also a lovely time to rediscover our local high streets, independent shops and markets. With the summer rush behind us, there’s something rather nice about taking your time, enjoying a coffee and having a leisurely browse without necessarily knowing what you’re looking for. Across Lincolnshire, we are fortunate to have independent businesses offering everything from fashion, interiors and jewellery to gifts, locally produced food and those little treats you simply don’t find everywhere else. Shopping locally also brings the pleasure of personal service, a friendly conversation and knowing that your money is supporting businesses within the community.
Autumn brings its own temptations too. Local food shops begin filling with seasonal produce, while craft and artisan markets provide the perfect excuse for a weekend wander. They’re great places to discover local makers, pick up something unusual for the home or even make an early start on Christmas shopping – although we won’t mention Christmas too loudly just yet! September can also be a month for small changes. A new accessory, something lovely for the home or a favourite local ingredient can be enough to give the new season a lift without spending a fortune. So, as the pace settles after summer, make some time to explore locally. Pop into that shop you usually walk past, visit a market, pick up something delicious for dinner or simply enjoy an afternoon browsing. You might be surprised by what you find right here in Lincolnshire.

Lasting Powers of Attorney:
Why you need one! If you haven’t made a Lasting Power of Attorney (or don’t have a pre-2007 Enduring Power of Attorney) and you become incapacitated in the future – whether mentally, through old age or dementia, physically, through injury or illness – there is NO ONE who is automatically authorised to handle your financial affairs, or make decisions about your welfare care needs. The Facts about Lasting Powers of Attorney • There is no such thing as “next of kin”, the term is a myth in this context. Even your spouse or your child would be unable to act for you if you have not made a Lasting Power of Attorney enabling them to do so. • If you do not have a Lasting Power of Attorney for Property and Finances and
lose mental capacity in the future, the Court of Protection could take over. • If you do not have a Lasting Power of Attorney for Health and Welfare, the Local Authority could decide where you live and who cares for you – and your family would not have the final say. • For the elderly, and people who lack the mental capacity to handle their financial affairs or their own welfare needs, a Lasting Power of Attorney is essential. • There is no limit on a Lasting Power of Attorney. You can make one now and ignore it until it is needed. Indeed, it may never be needed. But if you leave it too late, you will never be able to make one.
At BG Solicitors we offer competitive fee structures and packages to provide you with Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney at market-beating rates. We aim to charge less than any other quote you may have received and our turnaround time is FAST. If you instruct us today and all the information that we need from you is in place, we can have your Lasting Power of Attorney complete and submitted for registration within 3 working days – guaranteed. HOME & LIFE
Home, Family and Finances
Is It Time to Get Your Affairs in Order? We spend plenty of time thinking about our homes – decorating them, improving them and planning the next project. But there is another kind of household maintenance that is much easier to overlook: making sure our important financial and legal arrangements are in order.
A good starting point is your will. Life rarely stands still, so a will written many years ago may no longer reflect your circumstances or wishes. Moving home, getting married, separating, welcoming children or grandchildren, or experiencing a significant change in your finances are all sensible prompts to review your arrangements and seek appropriate advice. It is also worth thinking about what would happen if illness or an accident meant you could no longer manage certain decisions yourself. Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs) allow you to choose trusted people to act on your behalf. Separate LPAs can cover property and financial matters and
decisions relating to health and welfare. They are often associated with later life, but planning ahead can be relevant to adults of many ages. Your home itself can create another reason to get the paperwork organised. Buying, selling or remortgaging a property involves important legal and financial commitments. Good conveyancing is about more than completing forms: the process includes searches, contracts and checks relating to the property before ownership changes hands. Keeping your identification, mortgage information and other relevant documents accessible can help when it is time to move.
“We look after our homes – but how often do we give our legal and financial affairs the same attention?” It can be useful to bring everything together at home too. Consider creating a secure record of important information, including details of bank accounts, pensions, savings, investments, insurance policies, property documents and key professional contacts. Make sure the appropriate people know where essential documents can be found, while keeping passwords and sensitive information properly protected. Finally, don’t assume that getting organised is something reserved for retirement. Major milestones – buying a first home, starting a family, receiving an inheritance, moving house or approaching later life – can all be opportunities to review what you have in place.
“A little organisation today could make things considerably simpler for you and the people closest to you in the future.” lincolnshireinfocus.co.uk
We regularly spring-clean our homes, clear cupboards and tackle those jobs we have been postponing. Giving your legal and financial affairs an occasional spring-clean can be just as worthwhile. A little organisation today could make things considerably simpler for you and the people closest to you in the future.

Smalley Hot Tub Services
Taking Care of Your Hot Tub, All Year Round After the lovely warm summer we’ve enjoyed here in Lincolnshire, gardens have certainly had plenty of use. Long, light evenings have given us the perfect excuse to spend more time outdoors – and for those lucky enough to have a hot tub, there can’t have been many better summers for making the most of it.
Perhaps your hot tub has been at the heart of family evenings and get-togethers with friends, or maybe the warmer weather has left you thinking it might finally be time to invest in one of your own. Either way, there’s one part of hot tub ownership that shouldn’t be overlooked: keeping it properly maintained.
jets and cover, removing water from the pipework and inspecting electrical components, pumps, heaters and seals. Regular servicing can also help tackle the build-up of limescale and bacteria and, importantly, give potential problems a chance to be spotted before they develop into something more costly. And you certainly don’t need to own the newest hot tub on the market to ask for help. Smalley Hot Tub Services works with hot tubs of all ages and says it can service and repair every brand and model sold in the UK. Whether yours is a recent addition to the garden or an old favourite that has been keeping the family warm for the best part of 20 years, there may well be plenty of life left in it yet.
Based in Pinchbeck, near Spalding, Smalley Hot Tub Services helps hot tub owners across Lincolnshire and surrounding counties with regular servicing, seasonal shutdowns and repairs when something isn’t working as it should. Most owners know about keeping an eye on water quality and cleaning the filters, but there is much more going on beneath the surface. A professional service is rather like giving your hot tub a thorough health check, looking at those areas that can easily be forgotten when everything appears to be running perfectly. Smalley Hot Tub Services offers commissioning, regular servicing and winterisation or shutdown. A full service can include a chemical flush and drain, cleaning of the shell, cabinet, pillows,

“Your hot tub should be somewhere to switch off, relax and enjoy – not something you only think about when it stops working.” The team can also help with inflatable hot tubs, including familiar names such as Lay-Z-Spa, Intex and CosySpa, and Smalley Hot Tub Services is the UK’s only manufacturer-endorsed inflatable hot tub repairer.
From its base in Pinchbeck, the business covers Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Rutland and Norfolk, helping owners with everything from routine maintenance and winter preparation to diagnosing faults and getting troublesome tubs running again. After a summer of making the most of our gardens, now is a good time to think about what your hot tub might need next. As the evenings begin to draw in and the seasons change, a little attention now can help ensure everything continues running smoothly in the months ahead, ready for those cooler evenings when a warm, relaxing soak becomes even more inviting. Whether it has been used almost every evening or you’re considering buying one for the first time, proper maintenance is an important part of protecting your investment. After all, a hot tub should be somewhere to switch off, relax and enjoy – not something you only think about when it stops working. Find out more: smalleyhottubservices.co.uk

Autumn at Home
Make the Most of Autumn September brings a subtle change of pace. The evenings begin to draw in, mornings feel a little fresher and our thoughts naturally turn towards making home feel warm, comfortable and ready for the months ahead.
Yet autumn doesn’t have to mean retreating indoors. With a little preparation, this is one of the loveliest times of year to enjoy both home and garden. After a particularly dry summer, many lawns may be looking rather more brown than green. The good news is that established grass is remarkably resilient, and September’s cooler temperatures and returning rainfall can help lawns spring back into life. Avoid cutting too short while

healthy growth and stronger roots for the months ahead. Elsewhere in the garden, cut back tired growth, clear fallen leaves and tidy paths

September is also an ideal time to start planting spring-flowering bulbs, giving you something colourful to anticipate next year. It’s worth checking garden tools and equipment too. Cleaning, sharpening and servicing anything that has worked hard through summer means it can be stored in good condition and ready when needed again. There is no reason to pack away the garden furniture just yet either. Comfortable seating, warm throws, atmospheric lighting and a little outdoor warmth can transform a patio into an inviting place for an early evening drink or relaxed weekend meal.
Closer to home, consider the areas that connect indoors and out. Windows and doors should close securely and be free from troublesome draughts before colder weather arrives. Taking care of small maintenance jobs now can help make the house feel more comfortable and efficient throughout winter. Inside, autumn is an opportunity for a seasonal refresh rather than a complete redesign. Introduce richer textures through cushions and throws, bring in warmer lighting and add natural touches inspired by the garden. Deep greens, earthy neutrals and warm autumnal shades can create an instantly cosier atmosphere.
And don’t forget to enjoy it all. Whether soaking in a hot tub beneath the evening sky, gathering around an outdoor table or simply settling into a favourite chair at home, September offers the best of both worlds. A little preparation now means your home and garden can remain welcoming, practical and enjoyable throughout autumn, whatever the Lincolnshire weather has in store.

Calor Shop Grimsby More Service with Every Bottle!
Celebrating 30 years in Grimsby, The Calor Shop has grown into a trusted destination for gas, heating and outdoor living. Now, with outdoor kitchens, barbecues and garden entertaining increasingly popular, the family-run business is helping customers make even more of life outdoors.
At the heart of the company’s story are two generations of the Clark family. Founder Bob Clark established the business 30 years ago with a simple aim: to provide bottled gas and essential equipment for homes and businesses across the area. From its original base on Hainton Avenue, the shop quickly built a loyal following, with customers relying on Bob for Calor gas cylinders, practical advice and friendly service. As demand for LPG products grew, so did the range. Alongside propane, butane and patio gas cylinders came heaters, barbecue equipment, regulators, hoses and accessories, transforming the shop from a local gas supplier into a specialist destination with something to meet a wide variety of domestic, leisure and commercial needs. Today, the business serves homeowners, caravan owners, campers, builders, tradespeople and local hospitality businesses. From Campingaz cylinders and mobile heaters to barbecues and patio heaters, the focus remains on quality products backed by expert advice. Outdoor living has become an
increasingly important part of the range, with customers looking to make more of their gardens and entertaining spaces. In recent years, the next generation has taken the helm. Dennis Clark, Bob’s son, now leads the company, continuing the values established by his father while taking the business forward. Having grown up around the shop, Dennis understands both the industry and the community it serves. A major milestone came in April 2023, when the business relocated from Hainton Avenue to larger, more modern premises on Kent Street in Grimsby. The move brought improved customer facilities, expanded showroom space and easier parking, while providing more room to showcase products for home heating, outdoor cooking and specialist gas uses.
Despite these developments, the ethos of the business remains unchanged, with personal service, trusted expertise and strong community relationships still at its heart. Customers can expect the same friendly, knowledgeable approach whether they are looking for an everyday gas supply or inspiration for their next outdoor living project. As The Calor Shop celebrates its anniversary year, more than three decades after Bob first opened the doors, the family business continues to keep homes warm, power outdoor living and support customers across the region. With an expanding range and a new generation at the helm, it is well placed to continue serving the local community for many years to come.

September
A Month of Abundance, Renewal and Gentle Transition September is a month of change in the garden, bringing abundant harvests, late colour and opportunities to plan ahead.
The Beauty of a Seasonal Shift September brings a beautiful turning point to the garden. The golden height of summer softens into the first hints of autumn: cooler mornings, dew-soaked lawns and softer, slanted light that makes borders glow. Many gardeners think of September as an ending, but in truth it is the beginning of one of the most rewarding months for shaping the seasons ahead. Late-Season Colour in the Borders By now, many early perennials have finished their main display, yet September still offers a wealth of colour. Asters, sedums, Japanese anemones, heleniums and ornamental grasses reach their peak, thriving in the milder temperatures and lower light. Keeping Borders Fresh and Vibrant To maintain strong displays, deadhead late-flowering plants such as dahlias, cosmos, rudbeckia and salvias. Cut back tired perennials like hardy geraniums and nepeta to encourage fresh autumn foliage. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps, and introduce new perennials, grasses or heucheras to enhance late-season structure. Plants settle in well while the soil remains warm. Reviewing and Planning for the Future September is the ideal month to evaluate your borders. Notice gaps in height, structure or autumn colour
and make notes or sketches to guide future planting decisions. Small observations now lead to stronger design choices later. Roses and Shrubs: Gentle Late-Season Care Roses often produce a final flush of bloom in September. Deadhead lightly, tidy diseased foliage and monitor for black spot and mildew. Shrubs begin preparing for dormancy; most need very little pruning now. Tidy Hydrangea paniculata if needed, and lightly shape vigorous shrubs, but avoid heavy cuts so late in the season. The Vegetable Garden in Full Abundance The vegetable garden is both generous and busy this month. Harvest sweetcorn, beans, courgettes, tomatoes, beetroot, carrots, apples and pears as they reach perfection. Continue feeding tomatoes and peppers until cropping ends. Lift and store maincrop potatoes once foliage dies back. Sowing for Autumn and Winter September is excellent for sowing autumn and winter crops. Spinach, pak choi, winter salads, spring onions and turnips all thrive when started now. Clear spent crops promptly to reduce pests overwintering. If preparing winter beds, mulch or add compost to improve soil ahead of colder weather.
“September isn’t the end of the gardening year – it’s the beginning of something new.” 24
Supporting Wildlife as Seasons Shift Wildlife becomes highly active as autumn approaches. Hedgehogs fatten for hibernation, and birds switch to seed-rich diets. Leave some seedheads for shelter and food, keep water dishes filled and allow a quiet corner of the garden to remain slightly wild. A Gentle Close and a New Beginning September is both a soft farewell to summer and a hopeful beginning to the gardening year ahead. With warm soil, comfortable temperatures and abundant harvests, it is a month rich in potential. Thoughtful maintenance and timely planting now will reward you with a strong, resilient and beautiful garden for the seasons to come. Contact us to see how we can help you create your dream garden.

Autumn Roads Ahead September is a month of change. Summer holidays are drawing to a close, the school run returns and Lincolnshire’s roads begin to take on a distinctly autumnal feel. It is also an ideal time to give your car a little attention before colder, darker and wetter days arrive.
“September is the ideal time to give your car a little attention before colder, darker and wetter days arrive.” After a summer of long journeys, days out and perhaps a few extra miles on the clock, some simple checks can help ensure your vehicle is ready for the season ahead. Tyres are a sensible place to start. As temperatures begin to fall and roads become wetter, good grip becomes increasingly important. Check the tread and condition of each tyre, remembering to look for uneven wear, cracks or damage. Tyre pressures should also be checked regularly, particularly before longer journeys. September is also a good opportunity to check your lights. The evenings gradually draw in and journeys that were made in daylight only a few weeks
ago may soon involve driving at dusk or after dark. Make sure headlights, brake lights and indicators are clean and working correctly.
a few minutes. If your car is approaching its service or MOT date, arranging it before winter arrives can provide additional peace of mind.
Then there is visibility. Autumn can bring everything from dazzling low sunshine to sudden showers, making a clear windscreen essential. Wiper blades that have spent months dealing with dust, insects and summer sunshine may be ready for replacement. Keeping screenwash topped up and cleaning the inside of the windscreen can make a surprisingly noticeable difference too.
Of course, autumn motoring is not only about maintenance. September can be a wonderful time to enjoy driving around Lincolnshire. With the busiest weeks of the summer behind us, there are country roads, market towns and coastal destinations waiting to be explored as the landscape begins to change.
Under the bonnet, checking oil, coolant and other essential fluid levels takes only
“A few simple checks now can help keep you safely and confidently on the road throughout autumn.” 30
Whether your car is used for the daily commute, school runs, weekend adventures or simply getting from A to B, a little preparation now can make the transition into autumn considerably easier. So, before the leaves start falling and the clocks eventually go back, give your car an autumn check. A few simple jobs in September could help keep you safely and confidently on the road throughout the months ahead.

HOMES & CARE
Finding Care That
Feels Like Home
Today’s care homes can provide far more than practical support. Many are designed around the idea that moving into care should not mean giving up independence, interests or familiar routines. Instead, good care is about understanding the individual: how they like to spend their day, the food they enjoy, the hobbies they have always loved and the little details that help them feel comfortable and settled. For some people, residential care offers the reassurance of having support available when it is needed, alongside the social benefits of being part of a community. Others may require specialist dementia care, where thoughtfully designed surroundings, familiar routines and experienced teams can help create a greater sense of confidence and security. Respite care can also be invaluable. A short stay may provide additional support following an illness or hospital visit, offer an introduction to life within a care home, or simply give family carers time to rest and recharge. When exploring the options, visiting in person can tell you far more than a brochure ever could. Look beyond the décor and facilities and consider how the home feels. Are residents engaged and comfortable? Do staff take time to talk and listen? Are there opportunities to enjoy the garden, take part in activities, pursue existing interests or simply have a quiet afternoon with a favourite book?
“Growing older does not diminish the importance of choice, friendship, laughter, purpose or belonging.” Choosing care for yourself or someone you love is one of those decisions that can feel significant, emotional and, at times, a little overwhelming. Yet finding the right support can open the door to a reassuring new chapter, offering companionship, security and the opportunity to continue enjoying the things that make everyday life meaningful.
It is worth asking how care is personalised and families are involved. Individual preferences can make an enormous difference when someone is adjusting to unfamiliar surroundings. Most importantly, the right care should support a person rather than define them by the care they need. Growing older does not diminish the importance of choice, friendship, laughter, purpose or belonging. A care home may be a new address, but with the right people and support, it can become somewhere to build friendships, create memories and feel genuinely at home.

Celebrating 10 Years of Exceptional Care at
Lindsey Hall Care Home For ten years, Lindsey Hall Care Home on Clee Road, Cleethorpes, has been creating a place where people can feel at home, surrounded by care, companionship and a strong sense of community.
The building itself has a special history. Once a school serving local families, it was later thoughtfully transformed and repurposed as a care home, beginning a new chapter in its story. Today, Lindsey Hall provides residential, dementia, respite and day care, supporting people and families across the local area.
beautifully captured the journey of a resident who was initially reluctant to leave her own home, but who, after settling in, came to love Lindsey Hall so much that she declared: “My home is Lindsey Hall.”
Over the past decade, Lindsey Hall has welcomed countless residents through its doors, each bringing their own stories, personalities, interests and experiences. It is the relationships created between residents, their families, staff and the wider community that have helped shape the home into what it is today.
She loved the staff, the care and the genuine interest they showed in her. She enjoyed the wide range of activities, her room with its large windows overlooking the garden, the spacious corridors and The Street. She even brought her piano with her and played it every day. The flexibility of the team enabled her to continue enjoying long walks and fresh air, supporting her independence and the things that mattered most to her.
Feedback from families regularly speaks volumes about the care and environment Lindsey Hall provides. One recent review
As her health declined in her final weeks, her family described the Lindsey Hall team as “brilliant in every way”.
It is moments like these that demonstrate what exceptional care is truly about — not simply providing care, but creating a home where people feel valued, understood and able to continue living life on their own terms. To mark this special milestone, Lindsey Hall is bringing its community together for a celebration with a glamorous 1920s Great Gatsby-themed party. Residents, families old and new, and the dedicated care team will come together to celebrate a decade of memories, friendships and the many people who have helped make Lindsey Hall what it is today.
“Being trusted by local families to care for the people who matter most to them is a privilege we never take for granted.” Claire Allison, Care Home Manager at Lindsey Hall, says: “We are incredibly proud to be celebrating ten years of Lindsey Hall as a care home and of the wonderful community we have created here. Although the building has a history of its own, it has taken on a completely new life over the past decade. Being trusted by local families to care for the people who matter most to them is a privilege we never take for granted. To receive such heartfelt feedback and recommendations from families is a lasting testament to our dedicated team and the care they provide every day. We cannot think of a better way to celebrate than by bringing everyone together for a day of fun, memories and celebration.”
Ten years on, Lindsey Hall continues its story — a former school given a new purpose, now a much-loved home where people are cared for, supported and valued.
