SEND WEBSITE GETS A FACELIFT
A website with support for children with additional needs and their parents has undergone an extensive makeover, North East Lincolnshire Council has revealed.
The North East Lincolnshire SEND Local Offer website houses advice and support for parents and professionals, as well as news about upcoming events, training and fun activities.
Over the last 6-months, the site has been given a new, more simplified and accessible design, with key areas now more prominently placed and easier to get to.
What’s changed?
Pages have been reconfigured to give them a more mobile device-friendly experience.
Councillor Samuel Grice, deputy leader and portfolio holder for children and education at North East Lincolnshire Council, said that the site refresh had been carried out with the enduser in mind.
“Research carried out at the start of the project has helped guide this whole project. We’ve listened to what people have told us about the existing site, and we’ve looked at the data.
“We want this site to be a one-stop-shop for parents, carers, young people and professionals to find out about local services, activities, events and groups.
“I really hope that our SEND community find the refreshed local offer site easier to access and to navigate. We’re always open to feedback to continue fine-tuning and updating the site.”
Research showed that just over half of visitors to the site were using a mobile device to access it. The new page designs have been made to be friendly to mobile devices.
Lots of people viewing the site missed out on a significant amount of information because they weren’t scrolling down pages, so work has been done to ensure that site visitors don’t need to scroll as much to view information.
Key changes include:
- Accessibility-first design
- Simplified navigation and removed clutter
- Improved readability
- New ‘Things to do’ makes it easier than ever to find out what things are available in the area for children and young people, parents and carers and professionals.
- New feedback button – we want to know what you think of our pages. If you like them or if you have any suggestions for improvements.
- Education Health and Care Plans are quickly accessible via a button on the home page.
- New preparing for adulthood section has content that will get people with SEND the information or support they need to live independently.
- New page layout coming soon. All pages will be in a new uniform design that are easier to understand and utilise images and symbols to improve accessibility.

NEW FUTURE FOR GRIMSBY’S OLD YMCA SITE, AS OWNER PREPARES FOR DEMOLITION
Twenty-four-hour security and new fencing are in place to secure Grimsby’s old YMCA building as demolition plans are progressed by the owner ahead of a new future for the site.
North East Lincolnshire Council has been in talks with the owner of the Peaks Lane building, after continued arson attacks, vandalism and other anti-social behaviour.
As a result, a structural engineer’s report received says: “In the professional opinion of the engineer, the safest and most appropriate course is controlled demolition of the entire building complex.”
The council has since followed the legal process as quickly as possible, with the owner taking responsibility and organising for increased security as they take the necessary action and surveys to prepare for safe demolition.
This includes round-the-clock manned security and the new fencing. Humberside Police has also been informed and are supporting, and
trespassers are warned of action if they try to enter the building.
Once demolition and clearance are complete by the owner, it is hoped a bright new future can be found for the 4.4-acre site and again the council will support where possible to progress suitable options.
The building has been empty since the YMCA’s move to Freeman Street in 2021 when the organisation put it up for sale and sold it a year later. It is made up of a main multi-storey concrete building, a sports hall and a toilet block with covered connections between them all.
Cllr James Sawkins, Portfolio for Safer and Stronger Communities, said: “It is clear this building has been a target for all kinds of anti-social behaviour, and this has been a real
concern for people and organisations nearby, the emergency services, and the council. I am pleased to say the owner is fully on board with what needs to be done to prevent the risk of a really serious incident here.
“We can now move forward and of course will support the owner in any way we are able to look for a new and hopefully good future for this site. I would like to thank everyone involved for taking this action.”
Supporting the action, North East Lincolnshire Council Leader, Cllr Oliver Freeston, added: “I am really pleased the team has found a way to resolve this. This is one of many buildings we are looking into across the town, and what we want to see is owners held responsible - but also how, as in this case, we can work with them to identify issues and look at solutions.”
COUNTDOWN TO LINCS & NOTTS AIR AMBULANCE DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL
Lincoln Dragon Boat Festival returns to the Brayford Waterfront on Saturday 11th July raising money for the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance (LNAA).
The event, sponsored by Dynex Semiconductor, will bring teams, businesses and communities together for an unforgettable family fun day on the water, and every penny raised will support the LNAA Mission Possible 2 Appeal – helping fund a second life-saving helicopter.
The second helicopter will enable the LNAA to respond to two emergencies at the same time in any corner of Lincolnshire or Nottinghamshire, ultimately helping to save more lives.
Rachel Wilson, Head of Community, Corporate and Events, explained: “Over recent years demand for our services has increased by 135%. May was our busiest month ever with the crew attending a total of 187 missions, averaging six missions a day – up from the usual five.
“However, with only have one helicopter to cover both counties, sadly we know there are patients that we can’t currently reach as our crew are deployed elsewhere. We call these ‘missed missions’.
“To reduce the number of missed missions we’ve launched our Mission Possible 2 Appeal to raise £7m for a second helicopter which will enable our critical care paramedics and doctors to be by the side of around 400 additional patients each year.”
On the day there will be plenty for visitors to do including balloon modelling, hook a dragon, face painting, temporary tattoos, a 3D printing shed and a human fruit machine!
They will also be able to meet the Lincolnshire Fire Service, visit the ice cream van or pop to Guiding Sparks Circus to say hello to Boris the Dragon and his friends, and take part in the dragon head workshops.
Lincoln Rock Choir will be performing during the day, and the Odeon Cinema will be running a special showing of How to Train your Dragon at 9.30am as well as hosting a Family Zone where you will find lots of child-friendly activities between 10am and 4pm.
Visitors can also take part in a Dragon Trail around the city centre, with the chance to pick up
a special discount booklet packed with vouchers from restaurants and hotels along the Brayford. Beginning at the LNAA pop-up stand in the Waterside Shopping Centre, the trail will guide participants through a selection of key retail outlets before finishing at the Odeon.
At each retailer, participants can scan a code to reveal a letter. Once all the letters have been collected and the mystery word has been correctly spelled, they will receive a discount booklet featuring offers from many of the restaurants and hotels along the Brayford.
Those who complete the Dragon Trail will also be entered into a prize draw to win a VIP trip for four people to Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance HQ.
Magna Radio will be broadcasting live from the event, interviewing the teams as well as the families visiting the event.
This year’s event is being organised by the LNAA in partnership with Ringrose Law.
Alex Bennett, Head of Marketing at Ringrose Law, said: “The Lincoln Dragon Boat Festival has become a muchloved annual event, and we are incredibly proud to have helped it grow into the success it is today.
“It has been a pleasure to work alongside the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance as they prepare to take the helm and lead the festival into its next chapter.
“We have every confidence that under their stewardship, the festival will continue to go from strength to strength, raising vital funds and awareness for a charity that provides a lifesaving service across our communities.”

SPECTACULAR TURNOUT AS LINCOLNSHIRE SHOW CELEBRATES AGRICULTURE, STAR APPEARANCES AND RECORD - BREAKING COMMUNITY ACHIEVEMENTS
The Lincolnshire Show returned on 17th and 18th June with spectacular success, welcoming around 62,000 visitors to the Lincolnshire Showground for two unforgettable days of farming, food, family fun and community celebration.
The flagship event, proudly hosted by the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society (LAS), firmly cemented its position as the beating heart of the county’s rural calendar, and agriculture remained front and centre, with packed livestock sheds showcasing the very best of British farming.
The livestock sections saw a tremendous surge in entries; the sheep section was completely full with over 650 entries and the pig section grew by 50%, requiring organisers to extend the showing ring to
accommodate the massive turnout. History was made in the dairy cattle lines as the new-for-this-year breed, the Ayrshire, took home the coveted Supreme Interbreed Champion title. Over in the bursting beef cattle shed, the Charolais, British Blonde and Simmental sections held their own with incredible displays, alongside the prestigious Lincoln Red National Show, where a Lincoln Red was triumphantly crowned Supreme Interbreed Champion.
The equestrian side of the event was
equally vibrant, with over 1,500 horses on site across the two days competing in everything from high-stakes Show Jumping to prestigious Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) Showing Qualifiers. The traditional Farriers Competition also saw immense success, operating at full capacity with over 50 entries.
This year’s event masterfully balanced deep agricultural roots with commercial appeal, drawing high praise from celebrity guest, Kelvin Fletcher, on Thursday 18th.
Reflecting on his visit, the actor and farmer said:
“This is the best. The way this is laid out feels like an agricultural show. It’s got to be a commercial endeavour and really celebrate agriculture, but the balance and layout is absolutely spot on.”
Families and fans were also treated to star-studded entertainment elsewhere on the Showground. Pop star turned farmer, JB Gill, delighted crowds with an exclusive book signing on the newly popular Rural Voices stage on Wednesday 17th.
Meanwhile, the Main Ring hosted the thrilling debut of Dart Polo, drawing massive crowds with its fast-paced adrenaline, while the new Pony Club Ring proved a massive hit, keeping spectators captivated with a jam-packed timetable across both days.
Elsewhere in the Main Ring, a Guinness World Record was set on Wednesday 17th, as three people raced against the clock to assemble and engage a combine harvester header. Jacob Copley is now the record holder after completing the challenge in just one minute and 26 seconds.
Feeding the LAS Members’ was a monumental logistical success, handled expertly by Saffron Outside Catering. The team served up 1,700 high-quality meals across the Members’ Restaurant, Carvery Restaurant and the President’s Marquee, satisfying hungry guests with 500 breakfasts, 600 carveries and 400 dinners.
Crucially, the event’s educational mission broke all previous records. The LAS Schools’ Challenge competition saw its highest numbers to date, with an incredible 72 schools and 5,605 students taking part.
Highlighting the deep, real-world impact of the initiative, a representative from Queen Eleanor Primary School shared a moving testament to the project’s power:
“We had a child exhibiting ARNA (Anxiety-Related Non-Attendance) but through the project, he has returned to school. The children have enjoyed their market research and have gained valuable public speaking skills.”
Organisers have expressed their immense gratitude to all the volunteers, Stewards, exhibitors and visitors who made this year’s Lincolnshire Show a resounding triumph, safely securing its legacy for generations to come.
Planning is already underway for the 2027 Lincolnshire Show, promising even more celebration, innovation and fun for all the family.

Nature lovers can spend hours exploring country parks, woodland trails and peaceful nature reserves, where wildlife flourishes throughout the summer months. Many locations also offer picnic areas, children’s play spaces and walking routes suitable for all abilities, making them ideal for a relaxed day outdoors.
Animal attractions remain a firm favourite during the holidays, giving younger visitors the chance to meet farm animals, learn about conservation and enjoy interactive experiences. Whether it’s feeding friendly animals, discovering rare breeds or simply enjoying the fresh air, these attractions provide an entertaining and educational day out for the whole family.
Lincolnshire’s coastline also comes alive during the summer. Traditional seaside resorts continue to offer everything visitors expect from a classic British

History is never far away in Lincolnshire either. The county is home to magnificent castles, stately homes, museums and historic villages, each offering fascinating stories from centuries gone by. Throughout the summer, many heritage attractions host family-friendly activities, living history displays and special events designed to bring local history to life for visitors of all ages.
For those who enjoy a more active adventure, there are countless opportunities to get outdoors. Cycling routes, walking trails and watersports provide plenty of ways to make the most of the warmer weather, while parks and gardens burst into colour, offering peaceful surroundings for a leisurely afternoon stroll.
Summer is also a wonderful time to support Lincolnshire’s local communities. Farmers’ markets, village fairs, craft events and outdoor performances regularly take place across the county, showcasing talented local producers, entertainers and artisans. These events offer the perfect opportunity to sample local food and drink, browse handmade gifts and soak up the welcoming atmosphere that makes Lincolnshire so special.
Of course, some of the best days out are often the simplest. Pack a picnic, head to your favourite beauty spot, explore a new village or take the scenic route through the countryside. With so much to see and do close to home, there’s no need to travel far to create lasting summer memories.
Whether you’re entertaining energetic children, enjoying a day with grandparents or making the most of a quiet weekend, Lincolnshire offers endless inspiration throughout the summer months. BEAUTIFULLY TIMELESS
Summer weddings are the perfect opportunity to celebrate in style, and while the venue, flowers and dress often take centre stage, the right jewellery provides the finishing touch that completes the look. From the moment the rings are exchanged to the last dance of the evening, every carefully chosen piece becomes part of the memories that will last a lifetime.
For most couples, selecting their wedding rings is one of the final and most exciting milestones before the big day. Unlike the flowers, decorations and cake, your rings become part of everyday life, serving as a constant reminder of the promises made to one another. Whether your style is classic, contemporary or somewhere in between, choosing rings that reflect your personalities is an important part of the journey.
Many couples now enjoy choosing their rings together, taking time to explore different precious metals, finishes and designs before adding a personal touch through engraving. A meaningful date, initials or a favourite phrase can transform a beautiful ring into something truly unique, creating a keepsake that will be treasured for decades to come.
Once the rings have been chosen, attention often turns to the finishing touches. Bridal jewellery should complement the dress rather than compete with it, with delicate necklaces, elegant earrings and understated bracelets adding sparkle without overwhelming the overall look. Some brides choose to wear a cherished family heirloom or a gifted piece of jewellery, bringing an extra layer of sentiment to the day and creating a meaningful connection between generations.
The groom’s accessories deserve just as much consideration. A timeless watch, classic cufflinks or a stylish tie pin complete the outfit with effortless sophistication and often become lasting mementoes of the celebration.
Summer provides the perfect backdrop for beautifully crafted jewellery. Natural daylight enhances the sparkle of precious metals and gemstones, while golden evening light creates stunning photographs that couples will treasure for years to come. Choosing quality pieces ensures they not only look beautiful on the day but continue to shine through anniversaries, family celebrations and everyday life.
Visiting an experienced jeweller allows couples to explore a wide range of styles while benefiting from expert advice and craftsmanship. Whether selecting wedding rings, finding the perfect bridal accessories or creating a bespoke design, taking the time to choose carefully means every piece carries lasting significance.
Long after the last dance and final toast, your wedding jewellery remains. More than beautiful accessories, these treasured pieces become lasting symbols of love, commitment and the memories of one unforgettable day.

PROTECTING YOUR PROPERTY INTERESTS
JAMES POWER
I am an Advanced Paralegal who has been working in residential conveyancing for just over a year. I can assist with various conveyancing matters including sales, purchases, transfers of equity, first registrations and adverse possession matters.
Conveyancing is my chosen area of law because it is collaborative rather than contentious. Both sides of a transaction generally share the same goal: helping clients complete their property matters smoothly and without unnecessary legal friction.
It is a pleasure to assist my local community in this regard, and working in Barton upon Humber has provided valuable insight into property ownership issues across the area. Many local properties remain unregistered with HM Land Registry, despite compulsory registration having been introduced many decades ago. This can leave homeowners and potential buyers exposed to unnecessary risk.
Title deeds may be held by homeowners, deed storage facilities, solicitors involved in previous transactions, or lenders where a mortgage remains in place or where deeds are retained following redemption. Unfortunately, deeds can become misplaced or their whereabouts forgotten, making future transactions more complex and potentially increasing legal costs.
When dealing with unregistered property, I carefully review all available title deeds and supporting documentation to ensure the relevant information can be provided to a buyer or submitted to HM Land Registry for first registration. This requires meticulous attention to detail. Where documentation is missing, every effort is made to locate the required information or secure suitable
Local Conveyancing Expertise You Can Trust
indemnity insurance to protect both the current owner and future purchasers.
Many firms are reluctant to become involved with unregistered properties due to the potential complications. Missing deeds, unclear boundaries, conflicting plans or difficulties tracing individuals with rights affecting the property can all create challenges. Despite these issues, I am happy to assist clients with the purchase, sale or registration of unregistered land.
Alongside the legal aspects of conveyancing, living and working locally has enabled me to build strong relationships with estate agents throughout the region. These connections often help transactions progress more efficiently and contribute to a smoother experience for clients.
Special Summer Offer
MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR HOME THIS SUMMER
There’s something about summer that inspires us to spend more time at home. Whether it’s enjoying breakfast in the garden, tackling long-awaited DIY projects or finally making plans to move, the warmer months provide the perfect opportunity to refresh both our homes and outdoor spaces.
With longer days and better weather, it’s easy to see why so many homeowners choose July to start improvements. From simple cosmetic updates to larger renovation projects, a little investment now can transform the way you enjoy your home throughout the rest of the year.
The garden naturally becomes the heart of the home during the summer months. It’s where children play, families gather and friends come together to enjoy long, relaxed evenings outdoors. Creating an inviting space doesn’t necessarily require a complete makeover. Adding colourful planting, stylish planters or carefully positioned greenery can instantly lift patios, decking and seating areas, while low-maintenance planting solutions can provide year-round colour with very little upkeep.
For those looking to make a bigger impact, professional landscaping can completely transform the way an outdoor space is used. Thoughtfully designed patios, pathways and borders not only improve the appearance of a property but also create practical areas for entertaining,
relaxing or spending time with family. Careful planning can help every corner of the garden work harder while creating a space that’s both beautiful and functional throughout the summer.
As more people embrace outdoor living, gardens are increasingly being designed as an extension of the home. Comfortable seating, attractive planting, decorative features and clever use of space can create welcoming areas that are just as enjoyable as any indoor room. Whether it’s a peaceful corner to unwind with a book or a sociable setting for family and friends, thoughtful
design allows you to make the most of every sunny day and warm summer evening.
Outdoor entertaining continues to be one of the season’s greatest pleasures. From weekend barbecues to impromptu gatherings with neighbours, having the right equipment can make all the difference. Comfortable seating, subtle lighting and patio heating allow you to enjoy your outdoor space well into the evening, while cooking outside has become a favourite way to make the most of warm, sunny days.
Making the most of the garden can even provide the perfect opportunity to tackle one of the biggest projects in the homethe kitchen. While renovations inevitably bring some disruption, the warmer weather makes the process much easier to manage. With meals being prepared on the barbecue and family dinners enjoyed outside, the kitchen isn’t relied upon quite as heavily as it is during the colder months. Longer daylight hours and more opportunities to dine outdoors mean many homeowners find a summer renovation >>>

far less disruptive, making it the perfect time to create a kitchen that’s ready for years of everyday living and entertaining.
Natural light also comes into its own during the summer. Clean, well-maintained windows and doors make homes feel brighter and more welcoming, while modern glazing can improve comfort, energy efficiency, and security year-round. It’s one of those improvements that not only enhances the appearance of a property but also adds lasting value.
Improving your home isn’t only about enjoying it today. For many homeowners, it’s also about adding value for the future.
Summer is also one of the busiest seasons for the housing market. Gardens look their best, daylight lasts longer, and homes naturally feel brighter, helping prospective buyers picture themselves settling in. If you’re preparing to sell, simple touches such as fresh paint, tidy borders and clutter-free rooms can create an excellent first impression, while expert professional advice can help guide buyers and sellers through every stage of the moving process with confidence.
Across Lincolnshire, homes come in every shape, size and style. From beautifully restored cottages and elegant period properties to contemporary family homes, the county offers something to suit every lifestyle. Occasionally, a truly special property comes onto the market, hidden away in a peaceful location and waiting for its next chapter, reminding us that some of the county’s finest homes are often its best-kept secrets.
Whether you’re redesigning your garden, planning a new kitchen, improving your home’s appearance or considering a move, summer is the perfect time to embrace new possibilities. A few carefully chosen improvements today can make your home even more enjoyable for the seasons ahead, creating spaces that are as practical as they are welcoming and making the very most of everything summer has to offer.

• Peaceful village location close to the A180, Lincolnshire Wolds and coast
Set within a Conservation Area in the picturesque village of Great Coates, North East Lincolnshire, The Grange is an exceptional Grade II-listed former farmhouse dating back to circa 1770, offering some 3,700 sq ft of beautifully proportioned accommodation steeped in character, history and charm.
Approached via a gated gravel driveway, the property immediately creates a striking first impression. Passing a tranquil pond and the neighbouring Grade I-listed St Nicolas Church, the approach reveals a home rich in heritage, surrounded by a sense of peace and privacy. The elegant Georgian frontage remains discreetly hidden from the driveway. The entire property is enveloped in mature Virginia creeper that transforms from a vibrant green into spectacular shades of ruby red during the autumn months.
Occupying the site of a medieval manor with remnants of the original moat still visible, The Grange combines historic significance with an idyllic parkland setting. Mature trees frame the property on all sides, creating an atmosphere of complete seclusion while still being exceptionally well-connected.
Internally, the home offers an abundance of natural light through large Georgian sash windows, with every room enjoying delightful views across the gardens and surrounding landscape. The heart of the home is the kitchen and breakfast room, featuring a magnificent fireplace with a traditional enamelled multi-fuel stove, creating a warm and welcoming space for everyday living and entertaining alike.
The ground floor continues to impress with three elegant reception rooms, each showcasing individual character and period detailing. The formal dining room flows seamlessly into a refined sitting room complete with a Portland Stone fireplace and multi-fuel stove. The spacious living room features a Portuguese Estremoz marble fireplace with Jetmaster gas fire and opens into a sun lounge with direct access to the south-facing patio.
A handsome study with a bay window and an Ancaster Stone fireplace provides the ideal home office or reading room. Beneath the house lies a fascinating brick barrel-roofed wet cellar, believed to predate the property itself by approximately 100 years.
The staircase rises to a generous first-floor landing, leading to five substantial double bedrooms, including an impressive principal which could easily be divided to create an additional bedroom if desired. The luxurious main bathroom features a Victoria + Albert bath, walk-in shower and twin wash basins, complemented by a separate family shower room finished with a Matki walk-in shower.
Outside, the grounds are predominantly laid to lawn with beautifully positioned seating areas designed to capture sunlight throughout the day. The orchard offers exciting potential for the addition of a tennis court, swimming pool or both, subject to the necessary permissions. A detached double garage with workshop, wood store and garden store further enhances the practicality of the estate, while ample parking is available for six or more vehicles.
Although NOT included within the property sale, there is an adjacent 4 acre plot on the southern boundary which could be available subject to negotiation.
The Grange is ideally positioned for modern family life. Great Coates offers local amenities, schools, shops and a nearby pub within walking distance, while Grimsby town centre is just ten minutes away. The A180 provides excellent transport connections, with the Lincolnshire Wolds and coastline both within easy reach. The tenure is Freehold and is rated Band G for North East Lincolnshire Council Tax.
A rare opportunity to acquire a truly distinguished Lincolnshire residence, The Grange effortlessly combines period grandeur, privacy and lifestyle appeal in one remarkable home.

JULY THE GARDEN IN ITS FULL SUMMER RHYTHM
July is the moment the garden settles into its summer stride. Days are long, the air is warm, and borders are filled with colour and movement. Bees hum from dawn until dusk, lawns glow in the evening sun, and the vegetable patch promises harvest after harvest. As temperatures rise and natural growth slows, steady routines, watering, deadheading and light pruning, help keep the garden looking fresh and flourishing.
BORDERS: KEEPING COLOUR FLOWING
By July, many early-summer perennials have finished their first flush, while midand late-summer stars prepare to take over. Deadheading is one of the most valuable jobs now. Removing spent blooms from roses, penstemons, delphiniums, foxgloves, salvias and hardy geraniums encourages new flowers and keeps borders neat. Cut back early perennials such as nepeta or hardy geraniums to prompt a smaller late-season rebloom. Tall plants may need reinforcement—July winds can snap stems—so check supports on lupins, dahlias, hollyhocks and verbascums. To maintain colour into autumn, fill late gaps with fast-growing annuals like cosmos, zinnias, nicotiana and cleome.
If you haven’t mulched yet, early July is the last good moment. A layer of compost helps conserve moisture, reduce weed growth and keep roots cooler during hot spells.
ROSES: EXTENDING THE DISPLAY
Roses may have peaked in June, but with proper care they will continue flowering beautifully into autumn. Deadhead frequently so plants do not waste energy producing seed. Repeat-flowering roses benefit from a second feed of rose fertiliser early in the month. Water deeply during hot weather—shallow watering encourages surface roots, making roses more vulnerable to drought. Keep a close eye on pests such as aphids and sawfly larvae; early removal, either by hand or with a sharp jet of water, usually prevents major outbreaks. Shrub Care and Summer Pruning Shrubs that bloomed in late spring—such
as philadelphus, weigela and deutzia—can be pruned now to maintain shape and encourage next year’s flower buds. Remove about a third of the oldest stems at the base to stimulate fresh, vigorous growth. Evergreens like box, pittosporum and privet may also be lightly trimmed in July, but avoid doing so during extreme heat or very dry spells to prevent plant stress.
LAWN CARE IN HIGH SUMMER
July’s heat can quickly scorch lawns. Mow on a higher setting to help grass retain moisture, and avoid cutting during very hot periods. If rainfall is low, water deeply once or twice a week rather than little and often—deep watering encourages roots to grow downward, improving resilience. For a wildlife-friendly option, allow a
few sections of lawn to grow longer. This supports insects, reduces water use and adds a more natural feel to the garden.
A MONTH TO ENJOY THE GARDEN
With borders full, roses flourishing and warm evenings stretching long into the night, July invites you to slow down and savour the height of summer. This is the perfect month for outdoor dining, lateevening watering rounds and taking time to appreciate the textures, scents and colours around you. With gentle maintenance, thoughtful pruning and attentive watering, your garden will remain lush, vibrant and full of energy through the warmest days of the year.

Garden Design and Construction
HELPING WILDLIFE THRIVE THIS SUMMER
There’s nothing quite like a garden in full bloom during the height of summer. Colourful flowers, buzzing bees, fluttering butterflies and birdsong all combine to create an outdoor space full of life. While many of us spend July enjoying our gardens, it’s also one of the most important times of year to support the wildlife that shares them.
Periods of hot, dry weather can make life more challenging for birds, bees, hedgehogs and countless other creatures. Water sources begin to dry up, food can become harder to find and the heat places extra pressure on wildlife searching for somewhere cool and safe. Fortunately, a few simple changes can make a real difference.
Providing fresh water is one of the easiest ways to help. A shallow dish, bird bath or small pond offers birds somewhere to drink and bathe, while bees, butterflies and other insects also benefit from accessible water. Adding a few pebbles to shallow containers allows smaller insects to land safely without becoming trapped.
Choosing wildlife-friendly planting is another simple way to support nature throughout the summer. Flowers rich in nectar and pollen attract bees, butterflies and other pollinators that play an essential role in our environment. By selecting a variety of plants that flower throughout the season, gardens can provide a valuable source of food while adding colour and interest.
Shelter is just as important. Hedges, shrubs and climbing plants offer shade
during the hottest part of the day, while log piles, wild corners and natural planting create valuable habitats for insects and small mammals. Leaving a small area of the garden to grow naturally can quickly become a haven for wildlife.
Even the smallest outdoor spaces can make a positive impact. Window boxes, patios and balconies planted with pollinatorfriendly flowers can provide welcome stopping points for bees and butterflies travelling between larger green spaces. Every garden, no matter its size, plays a part in supporting local wildlife.
Perhaps most importantly, take time to slow down and enjoy what’s around you. Watching birds visit a feeder, spotting butterflies among the flowers or hearing the gentle buzz of bees reminds us just how important our gardens are, not only for ourselves but for the wildlife that depends on them.
With a little care and thoughtful planting, your garden can become a welcoming sanctuary throughout the summer, helping Lincolnshire’s wildlife flourish while creating a beautiful outdoor space for everyone to enjoy.
TOP TIPS FOR HELPING WILDLIFE THIS SUMMER
KEEP WATER TOPPED UP
Refresh bird baths and shallow water dishes daily during hot weather.
PLANT FOR POLLINATORS
Choose nectar-rich flowers such as lavender, salvia and foxgloves.
LEAVE A WILD CORNER
Long grass, log piles and natural planting provide valuable shelter.
AVOID HARSH PESTICIDES
Encourage a healthy balance by allowing beneficial insects to thrive.
FEED LITTLE AND OFTEN
Bird food can be especially helpful during prolonged dry spells.
THINK BEYOND THE LAWN
Containers, hanging baskets and window boxes can all support bees and butterflies.
ADD A SHALLOW POND
Even a small wildlife pond can attract frogs, dragonflies and other fascinating visitors.
ENJOY NATURE RESPONSIBLY
Observe wildlife from a distance and avoid disturbing nests or young animals.
LIVE THE LIFE OF LUXURY
Become part of the Tallington lakes community and enjoy lakeside living at its best in one of our brand new luxury lodges, from some of the UK’s leading lodge manufacturers.
The park is centrally located between the towns of Peterborough, Stamford, Bourne and Spalding, meaning you don’t have to travel far in order to get away from it all and discover a little bit of heaven by the water at Tallington Lakes. Whether you want to stay for a short while or for a longer period of time, we will be able to help.
The park is set in over 300 acres, with over 200 acres forming our lakes, meaning the vast majority of our stunning homes enjoy year-round lakeside views. It’s not just the stunning views that make Tallington Lakes so special, it’s also the fact that you can live here 365 days of the year and, unlike many parks, register your home as your permanent address. But the best thing of all is the people who live here and give it such a wonderful community. Indeed, in excess of 90% of our homeowners live here all year round.
Tallington Lakes has become a sought-after park for the placement of a wide variety of desirable luxury lodges from several manufacturers, including Tingdene, Omar, Prestige and Atlas, to name just a few. With prices ranging from £133,000 to almost £400,000, there really is something to suit all tastes and budgets and, ultimately, the sky is the limit for your own lodge.
Choosing your lodge comes down to personal choice and requirements. All of the homes come fully furnished, with integrated white goods in the kitchen. We’ll even build your decking and add a shed to your plot, all as part of the asking price. Indeed, on moving day, simply unpack your clothes and fill your kitchen cupboards before settling down on your lakeside decking to enjoy the view. It really is as easy as that.
Tallington Lakes is on the site of a former gravel pit, which ceased commercial operations in the 1970s before being redeveloped as a leisure facility, with springfed lakes created on the rewilded site. In 1987, a dry ski slope was added, which now has one of the most sophisticated and realistic surfaces in the country. Further leisure activities were added, including a climbing tower. At the heart of the leisure facilities, though, are the lakes, with provision for water skiing, jet skiing, wakeboarding, sailing and, more recently, kayaking and paddleboarding. We even offer some openwater swimming sessions. All of this is made possible by the 200-plus acres of lakes.
Today, Tallington Lakes’ leisure activities run alongside the Goodlife Lodge Company, who help those looking for a piece of the good life to settle around the edges of the lakes. The 300-plus acres of Tallington Lakes now house approximately 450 luxury lodges and provide a permanent home for almost 800 people. As with our licence, you can live here 365 days of the year, register your address as your permanent address and pay council tax directly to the local authority.
The vast majority of the homes feature an open-plan living space enjoying lakeside views, with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, although three or even, on occasion, four-bedroom homes are available. For those wanting to make their brand-new lodge their own, we offer, in conjunction with some of the leading lodge manufacturers, a bespoke design service.
Tallington Lakes has always been a popular destination for buyers. However, over the last couple of years, we have seen its popularity
increase, with many buyers looking to leave the towns and cities for a more rural and relaxing way of life.
So, whether you are downsizing, looking for a UK base allowing you to travel or indeed looking for a relaxing family home, we are certain that you will find it at Tallington Lakes. Our professional, dedicated sales team offer a no-nonsense, no-pressure approach with all of our visitors. Our philosophy is that someone will buy a home at Tallington Lakes because it is the right place for them.
If you’re curious about what Tallington Lakes has to offer and what lodge life would be like, why not give the team a call on 0800 564 2266 or email info@goodlifelodge. com to book your exclusive viewing tour of the park and the lodges. Our hard-working, dedicated team are here to help with all of your lodge enquiries seven days a week, from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.
For those looking further afield, we have three other parks: The Putting Green at Thorney Lakes Golf Club in Cambridgeshire, set adjacent to an 18-hole golf course; Great Hadham Country Club in Hertfordshire, where most homes overlook the golf course; and Tanner Farm Park in the heart of Kent.

PLANNING A STAYCATION?
HERE ARE THREE SIMPLE CHECKS LINCOLN
DRIVERS
SHOULD MAKE BEFORE HEADING FOR THE SUNSHINE
With increasing flight prices and ongoing delays at airports meaning foreign destinations are harder to get to, a record 77% of sun-seekers are choosing to embark on a summer staycation in 2026 instead*.
With road users looking to explore the best that the UK has to offer, a Lincoln Volvo car retailer is offering their top tips for drivers to ensure their cars are as ready for a holiday as they are.
Andy McInnes, from Stoneacre Lincoln on Lincoln Fields, said: “For any British holiday, there’s one essential detail that often gets overlooked – the car.
“It’s vital to check whether your car is fit for a long journey and ensure you have all the essentials to avoid any unpleasant surprises.”
1. CHECK THE CONDITION OF YOUR CAR
“No matter how far you’re travelling, it is a good idea to regularly check your car. It may seem like common sense, but make sure the car has plenty of fuel, the oil and coolant have been topped up recently, the tyres are safely inflated, and all the electrics are working.
“Ensure you check the car’s lights and replace any bulbs that aren’t working or
seem dim. This is particularly important if you plan to set off early in the morning or late at night, when the visibility is reduced.
“One thing that is easily overlooked is checking the wheel nut key is stored safely in the car. Store it in a safe, accessible place – without it, even basic maintenance like changing a tyre can become difficult.”
2. TEST THE BATTERY
“Summer heat can be even tougher on car batteries than a winter frost. It’s wise to check your car battery, as temperature changes – especially in the summer – it can significantly affect its performance. Hot weather can accelerate battery degradation by trapping heat under the bonnet, causing the liquid inside to evaporate more quickly and potentially leading to a flat battery.
“Car batteries typically last between three and five years. To avoid a breakdown, it’s essential to check your battery’s condition, especially if your car is a few years old and regularly exposed to intense summer heat as it has had to work much harder over a prolonged period of time.
3. PLAN THE JOURNEY AND ENSURE YOUR TECHNOLOGY IS READY
“For electric vehicle drivers, technology can play an even bigger role in journey planning. Checking charging locations in advance and using apps to monitor charger availability can help avoid unnecessary detours and keep your trip running smoothly.
“If you’re visiting a destination that is unfamiliar to you, make sure your car’s satnav system has recently been updated to avoid missing new road layouts. If you use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, make sure any charging cables are packed and your route has been downloaded in case you encounter areas with limited mobile signal.
“If you rely on a smartphone for navigation, check that your apps are fully updated and that voice guidance is enabled, reducing the need to look at the screen while driving.”
“For those who would like to cover all their bases, locals in Lincoln can book in for a health check with us before their staycation.”
