EXHIBITION CELEBRATES LOCAL CREATIVES

BE inspired this summer by an exhibition of works from local creatives, including some wellknown names on the local art scene.

Following the success of the junior open art exhibition earlier this year, Lincs Inspire extended the opportunity for adults to showcase their art in the Albert Room at Cleethorpes Library.

The public can view the exhibition for free and vote for their favourite piece of art. Cash prizes will be awarded to winners of the public and judges’ votes.

Derek O’Connell, Library Development Officer, Lincs Inspire said: “Once again, we’re amazed and delighted by the high standard of submissions we’ve received. With no set theme, works are diverse, with many of the subjects being rooted in the local area, which we expect viewers will really enjoy. Come along and see for yourself!”

Thanks to funding from Arts Council England, the exhibition runs until September 30 during library opening hours - Monday to Thursday, 8:30am to 5:30pm and Saturday, 9am to 1pm. For more information visit www.lincsinspire.com.

HORIZON ALREADY ON SIDE WITH LOCAL YOUNG PEOPLE

WORK has now begun on Grimsby’s muchanticipated Horizon Youth Zone, as construction staff moved onto the Garth Lane site in June.

And, whilst the build work has taken a while to come to fruition, many of the project’s volunteers and staff agree that Horizon has been making a big impression on local young people for many months.

Once a week since 2019, Covid aside, a group of young people have met to discuss their aspirations for Horizon Youth Zone, from the name of the Grimsby project to the logo, and to share their needs and wants for the completed youth centre. Coming from all walks of life, and all areas of North East Lincolnshire, the young people have discussed their passions and aired their views about what they feel is missing from the local area.

More recently, they have gathered to play outdoor games in People’s Park, followed by a catch up at Grimsby’s University Centre where they discuss the latest developments with the project, and share news of their lives. The group was also asked to help interview potential candidates for the position of the new Horizon CEO, ensuring that their views were taken into consideration when deciding on the perfect person to drive such an inspirational local charity.

From Cleethorpes, 19-year-old Ibraham, known to his friends as ‘Ibo’, has future hopes of becoming a train driver but was excited to have recently been offered employment in a local factory. He has been attending the group for the last year, initially being drawn to the project to help make a difference.

He said: “It is exciting to be a part of something this special, and I hope that we can all make big changes as the Youth Zone becomes a reality.

“The project will be for 8-19-year-olds (up to 25 for those with additional needs), so I am at the older end of the scale and will be too old for it when it is finished, but I have enjoyed being a part of the legacy I hope it will leave in the area.”

Thirteen-year-old Jacob joined Horizon when he was

struggling with bullying at his school. He explained: “The group has given me a new confidence and now I feel more able to confront negative situations with a positive attitude. It has allowed me to be much happier at school.

“It has been nice to make new friends at Horizon, and I have enjoyed helping people out.”

Xander, currently the youngest of the group, only recently turning 13-years-old, explained: “It has been nice to play a part in the creation of Horizon, but for me it has also given me a safe space and something to do away from home.”

All three young people, Ibo, Jacob, and Xander, are soon to be heading off for an exciting, week-long exchange trip to New Bedford, Massachusetts, in the USA, where they will meet other teenagers to learn about the American culture and its values. Ibo is excited to find out about the massive pizzas he has heard so much of, while Xander is keen to find out what young people do across ‘The Pond’. Jacob is looking forward to finding out about colleges in the States.

He said: “I am hoping to look at what education is available there, especially when it comes to courses about crime and behind the scenes organisations. When they come here, we can take them to the docks and talk about the history of the area, which has been a very important part of Grimsby life.”

When their American counterparts head over to North East Lincolnshire they will learn all about life here and visit some of our more famous places and landmarks. It will be interesting to find out how our Horizon travellers got on in the States, and how their American guests view our small corner of the planet.

The Horizon state-of-the-art youth centre is expected to open in early 2025 in the Grade II Listed West Haven Maltings buildings along the River Freshney. It will provide thousands of young people with opportunities to engage in activities, and access support from skilled youth workers. Members will have access to an indoor climbing wall, a fourcourt sports hall, training kitchen, music room with

a recording studio, fully equipped gym, dance, and drama studio, 3G kick pitch, arts and crafts room, and an enterprise and employability suite. The centre will cost just 50p per child, per session.

Horizon Youth Zone is being delivered by national charity OnSide, in partnership with North East Lincolnshire Council which is contributing towards the Youth Zone as part of the Greater Grimsby Town Deal. Other key supporters include Historic England, the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Ørsted, St. James’s Place Charitable Foundation, The Youth Investment Fund and private donors.

North East Lincolnshire Council’s Portfolio Holder for Children and Education, Cllr Margaret Cracknell, is delighted by the positive difference Horizon is having on our young people – even before its doors open.

“Given support, encouragement and a chance to grow our young people will shine and provide us with real hope for our future here in North East Lincolnshire. It’s clear already that the Horizon project is doing just that. I want to take this opportunity too, to thank all the local groups and organisations that are already doing such good work, which will be complemented by this new centre.”

DOES YOUR POOCH HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BE THE NEW FACE OF SIBSEY AND BOSTON?

In celebration of its new Millers Walk development in Sibsey, Boston, Chestnut Homes is on the hunt for a new pawfect furry mascot, and is calling on local dog owners to nominate their favourite pooches.

As a very important member of the Chestnut Homes team, the chosen winner will receive a congratulatory hamper of treats and lend a paw in creating a dog’s eye view of life at the Millers Walk development. This will include taking house hunters on a video tour of the show home, sniffing out the best walks in Boston and finding the best neighbours for treats and tummy rubs.

The competition launches on Monday 14th August 2023, with entries open for a month before finalists are chosen for a public vote. To enter, dog owners need to send a direct message with details of why their pet is so special to them, along with their favourite image or memory of their pet, to the Chestnut Homes Facebook (www.facebook.com/Chestnut.Homes) or Instagram page (www.instagram.com/chestnuthomes).

Helene Key, sales manager at Chestnut Homes, said: “We know what an important part pets play in people’s lives, and as a result, the house-buying process which is why our Furry Mascot campaign is a particularly special one to us. If you have a furry friend who loves long countryside walks, enjoys a fuss, and would like to join the ranks as a Chestnut Homes Furry Mascot, then we’d encourage you to get those nominations in, and your furry friend could be the new face of Sibsey and Boston this year.”

The Furry Mascot competition follows the successes of last year’s campaign which saw hundreds of Lincolnshire locals share pictures and videos of their dogs, with the four finalists then put to public vote on the Chestnut Homes’ social media pages. Loveable Labrador-retriever cross Ted was crowned winner and has since been representing the Chantrey Park development in Market Rasen.

Helene, added: “We launched a similar campaign to find a furry mascot for our Chantrey Park development in Market Rasen as a fun way to see a different perspective on the house search. And, since the community got so involved, we decided to expand our mascot search to Sibsey and Boston, where we opened our new development Millers Walk earlier this spring.”

“Sibsey is a fantastic village with a thriving community that has lots to offer for anyone who chooses to call it home. You get the perks of a quiet village life, but the historic town of Boston is only a 10-minute drive away with lots of great local amenities and walks for furry friends.”

Millers Walk, which takes its name from Sibsey’s

prominent Grade I listed Trader Mill, comprises 39 two to five-bedroom homes across 15 house types. These include the four-bedroom Foy home –a new style for the housebuilder that is not currently available at any other Chestnut Homes development.

For more information on Chestnut Homes, visit www.chestnuthomes.co.uk.

Lincoln landmark makes list of top national attractions

ith over 660,000 visitors last year, the castle joins a prestigious list of tourism heavyweights like the Natural History Museum, British Library and Tate Modern in the top 20. And, in a crowded field of museums and art galleries, Lincoln stands out as the only castle to make the list.

Lincoln Castle general manager, Kimberley Vickers, is delighted to see the medieval monument in the top 20. She said:

“After two years affected by the various lockdowns and restrictions, 2022 was a strong return to doing what we do best; providing a warm welcome and a memorable day out.

“Our location in the historic heart of Lincoln means we’re uniquely placed to not only be a must-see for tourists in the city, but also an ideal green space for locals to meet with friends or enjoy a picnic. On top of that is our varied programme of events and activities, which create special moments for thousands more visitors.

“The huge increase in visitors last year was undoubtedly helped by a certain friendly fire-breather who took up residence in grounds in April. Lucy the Dragon proved so popular that she extended her stay by three months to see through Christmas and New Year with us. This year, Lucy’s return – this time with new friend Norman in tow – has solidified our reputation as the castle of dragons, and the pair are growling their greetings at even more visitors.”

Entry to the grounds of Lincoln Castle is free, but many visitors also choose to make the most of their trip with a castle day ticket and enjoy the Medieval Wall Walk, Victorian Prison and Magna Carta too.

As a great venue space at the historic heart of the city, the Castle plays host to a number of much-loved annual events. This Autumn, the Castle will be sizzling as the 20th annual Sausage Festival, in collaboration with the Lincoln Rotary Club, returns on Saturday 14th October. With a wide variety of everything food- and sausage-related this is a celebration of one of the county’s most popular exports – the Lincolnshire sausage!

Lincoln’s famous Steep Hill and cobble street Steep Hill is one of the best things to do in Lincoln and a bucket list activity whilst you’re in the city!
History

Lincoln’s Steep Hill is a steep, cobbled street, lined with an assortment of brilliant boutique shops and eateries, each one different from the last. It is the main artery connecting the city’s uphill to the more modern lower High Street. As well as a range of unique shops, there’s plenty of history to uncover too. The hill was originally built by the Romans to interconnect the growing city and was home to medieval merchants and communities.

Steep Hill is a picturesque landmark in the historic city of Lincoln, with roots stretching back to Lincoln’s Roman foundations. This famous cobbled hill was named the fourth steepest in the country by the Ordnance Survey (2019) at 16.12° and was accurately named after the gradient of the hill, which is difficult to ascend and descend! However, there are many ways to break up the climb, whether it be a stop-off in a peculiar book shop, a delve into a vintage fashion store or a drink in a charming tearoom, there are plenty of brilliant, unique distractions along the way.

Located at the top of Steep Hill is the Castle Square, a beautiful historic open space with Lincoln’s famous cathedral at one end and Lincoln Castle located at the other. The square is also home to the official Lincoln Visitor Information Centre and shop.

Not only famous for its steepness, but Steep Hill is also popular for the array of independent businesses ranging from retail, tearooms, restaurants, chocolate & fudge parlours, beauty salons, and more.

Lincoln Business Improvement Group (BIG) are delighted to work alongside the surrounding businesses to enhance Steep Hill through offering Christmas trees, hanging baskets, bunting, and flags depending on the season. This is an effective project that improves the aesthetic of Steep Hill and makes it more welcoming and attractive to visitors and locals alike. Lincoln BIG look to continue developing how they can work with the businesses in the area and ensure it’s a go to landmark for all visitors to the city.

After being voted Britain’s Great Street in 2012 by the Academy of Urbanism, Lincoln’s Steep Hill is still a highly popular spot for locals and tourists to visit and explore, with many historic sites remaining and in use today! This includes the Mayor’s Chair, said to have been placed at the top of the steepest part of the hill by the Mayor of Lincoln in the early 18th century, Harding House, an art gallery dating back to the 15th century and Norman House, dating back to the 12th century and still featuring its iconic double-arched windows.

If you have a few hours to spare and want to capture a snapshot of the city’s creative spirit, head to Steep Hill! There are several sites to see and shops to explore. Experience its colourful history, and the stores, restaurants, and cafés you can encounter.

Steep Hill isn’t suitable for those with accessibility requirements, but the Steep Hill Shuttle can help you get to the top with ease.

TEA FIT FOR A KING

BBMF Crew Brew

After three years of The Lincoln Tea & Coffee Company supporting the Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight afternoon tea, this year saw Susie and her team not only serve tea to the veterans and BBMF staff, but King Charles too!

On Monday 24th July 2023, His Royal Highness King Charles ventured to RAF Coningsby to join a Royal Tea Party marking the 80th anniversary of Dambusters raids, Operation Chastise. His Majesty was given a tour of the aircraft and met the World War Two veterans over a cup of BBMF Crew Brew Tea.

The mission of the RAF BBMF is to maintain the priceless artefacts of our national heritage in airworthy condition, in order to commemorate those who have fallen in the service of their country.

Every year BBMF organises the tea under the wings, where they invite the veterans to get together and talk to commemorate their amazing work and BBMF keeping those aircraft in the sky, which is quite something to achieve.

OC BBMF Sqn Ldr Mark Sugden mentioned in a previous speech “We would like to thank sponsors The Lincoln Tea and Coffee Company for their support in hosting the event. From providing the copious amounts of tea and coffee enjoyed at the Birthday Tea,

The Lincoln Tea & Coffee Company are always behind the scenes. © Crown Copyright

to the bone china, table decorations and overall event staffing support –we really couldn’t have done it without them!”

The Lincoln Tea & Coffee Company are proud to sponsor Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight and developed their very own tea. The Official Licenced Product BBMF Crew Brew tea blend is a bright and malty English breakfast style tea which can be enjoyed any time of day.

The Lincoln Tea and Coffee Company were absolutely speechless when they found out the King was going to be there.

They love supporting the event anyway, to serve the veterans, it is such an honour and they are really proud to do that. Then to find out that the King was going to be there was something else. They came together with the BBMF staff to produce a truly memorable day for all involved.

“We were all really excited. We had created the Coronation Tea back for the Coronation with Wrendale Designs and we had this

challenge with BBC Radio Lincolnshire... could we get a box of Coronation Blend back to King Charles? They were all drinking Crew Brew for the tea party, as that is what we always serve and BBMF enjoys every day.

We were very proud to gift King Charles a box of our Coronation Tea and to know that he enjoyed our Crew Brew Tea. Whilst he was passing from table to table,

talking to the veterans and hearing their stories, which is obviously what the day was about, he was enjoying our tea, we were very proud. It was such an honour!” Susie Carlisle, Founder

The Lincoln Tea & Coffee Company had an amazing time supporting BBMF (as always), meeting the World War Two veterans and serving tea fit for the King.

To enjoy the same tea as the King, you can find the BBMF Crew Brew tea and mug at www.thelincolnteaandcoffeecompany.co.uk

Let’s talk about mixers and what they are

Let's talk about why August was so important for many pet owners. August or shall we call it RAWgust is a food movement aiming to improve awareness of consuming raw foods, the health benefits, and the positive impact on the environment. Here at Laughing Dog, we want to take this opportunity to highlight raw feeding for your dog and how to get it right.

There are two diverse types of raw feeding: homemade raw diet and commercially prepared raw diets. Raw diets for your pets are made up of raw meat, raw bone and may include some other naturally occurring ingredients, for example, fruit, vegetables, oils, and seeds. Some paw parents opt for a raw diet as they do not like the idea of canned, baked, or tinned foods.

What are the benefits of mixers?

Mixer biscuits have several benefits:

1. Nutritional Value:

Wholemeal flour used in our Traditional mixers, is rich in fibre and nutrients compared to refined flour. It supports healthy digestion, providing essential vitamins and minerals for your dog's overall well-being.

2. Dental Health:

The dry and crunchy texture of these biscuits can help remove plaque buildup on your dog's teeth, promoting good oral hygiene.

3. Weight Management:

Wholemeal, Grain Free and Wheat Free biscuits are often lower in calories compared to some other dog biscuits. They can be a suitable option for dogs on weight management or weight loss diets.

4. Allergies:

Wholemeal, Grain Free and Wheat Free dog biscuits may be a suitable choice for dogs with specific food allergies. See

Mixers or raw food?

Mixing a raw food diet with a doggy biscuit is a common practice for a raw food diet and can just help give your four-legged friends that little bit of crunch and some additional nutrients to their diet.

Whether you are looking for a grain-free mixer meal with sweet potato, delicious botanical herbs and linseed for that glossy gleaming coat. Wheatfree mixer brimming with barley and oats for a slower form of energy release, or a traditional, 100% British, wholemeal mixer with nothing else added, Laughing Dog has the complete range to complement your raw feeding.

Baked mixer meals provide the perfect complement to feed alongside wet, canned meat or a raw diet to add a little extra crunch to help keep teeth clean and breath superbly fresh.

In addition, our traditional terrier mixer meal is endorsed by the Canine Epilepsy Support Group because of its simplistic formulation of wholemeal flour and water, so it is the perfect dog food for epileptic dogs

Check out Laughing Dog's variety of mixers: grain-free, wheat-free, and wholemeal to suit your dog's needs, visit Laughingdogfood.com

When selecting dry wholemeal dog biscuits, it is important to consider your dog's specific dietary needs, including their age, size, activity level, and any existing health conditions. EMBRACE AUTUMN’S ARRIVAL

A GUIDE TO PREPARING YOUR GARDEN

As the days grow shorter and the crisp breeze carries a hint of change, it’s time to bid farewell to the vibrant blooms of summer and welcome the warm hues of autumn. Preparing your garden for this transition is a gratifying endeavour that ensures your outdoor space remains inviting and resilient throughout the colder months. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you embrace autumn’s arrival and create a garden that thrives even as the leaves fall.

Before you begin your autumn garden preparations, start with a thorough tidying session. Remove any spent annuals, weeds, and debris to create a clean canvas for your fall garden.

If you have a vegetable or herb garden, it’s time to harvest the remaining produce. Preserve what you can for the coming months and consider sharing your surplus with neighbors and friends. Store tools, pots, and other garden equipment in a sheltered space to protect them from the elements.

Add a touch of autumnal splendour by planting fall-blooming perennials, ornamental grasses, and flowering shrubs. Look for plants that showcase warm tones like deep reds, oranges, and golds to complement the changing foliage.

Autumn’s main attraction is its breathtaking foliage. If you’re fortunate enough to have deciduous trees in your garden, get ready to enjoy the stunning display of red, orange, and yellow leaves. Raking leaves can be a chore, but consider using fallen leaves for composting or as a natural mulch for your garden beds.

Applying a layer of mulch to your garden beds not only helps insulate the soil against temperature fluctuations but also prevents weed growth. Additionally, consider covering delicate plants with burlap or frost cloths to protect them from the first frosts.

Autumn is an ideal time to prune certain trees and shrubs to encourage healthy growth. Trim away dead or diseased branches and shape your plants for the coming year. If your perennial plants have outgrown their space, consider dividing them to rejuvenate their growth and maintain their vitality.

Autumn is a prime time to boost your garden’s soil health by creating a compost pile. Collect fallen leaves, kitchen scraps, and garden waste to create nutrient-rich compost that will enrich your soil when spring arrives.

HOMES & GARDENS

As you wind down your gardening activities, take the time to clean and properly store your gardening tools. Remove dirt, oil moving parts, and store them in a dry place to prevent rust and deterioration.

While autumn is a season of slowing down in the garden, it’s also the perfect time to start planning for the next growing season. Consider

what you’d like to grow, make a list of seeds to purchase, and think about any changes you’d like to make to your garden layout.

As you complete your autumn garden preparations, take a moment to step back and admire your work. Autumn brings a unique sense of tranquility to the garden, with its soft light and rustling leaves. Embrace the beauty of the changing seasons and take some time to

simply enjoy your outdoor space.

Preparing your garden for autumn is a labour of love that sets the stage for a thriving garden in the seasons to come. By tending to your plants, tidying your space, and embracing the natural beauty of the changing foliage, you’ll create an inviting outdoor haven that delights the senses and provides a serene retreat as the year winds down.

Enhancing Lives & Dignity:

The Vital Role of Residential Care Homes in the UK

The significance of residential care homes cannot be overstated. These facilities play a crucial role in providing long-term care for senior citizens, offering a safe and supportive environment for those who require assistance with daily tasks, specialised care, and emotional support.

We explore the importance of residential care homes, particularly focusing on long-term care for the elderly, respite care, and dementia care. We will delve into the various services that dedicated staff members provide, including personal care tasks like washing, dressing, assisting with toileting, and administering medications. Additionally, we will examine the average annual costs associated with residential care homes in the UK, both with and without nursing care.

The Significance of Residential Care Homes

As individuals age, they may encounter challenges that impede their ability to perform daily activities independently. Residential care homes offer a compassionate solution by providing a home-like environment where trained professionals cater to the needs of the elderly. These homes are designed to enhance the quality of life for residents, promoting physical and emotional well-being while maintaining their dignity.

Long-Term Care for the Elderly

Long-term care is a cornerstone of residential care homes, catering to seniors who require assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs). Trained caregivers offer support with tasks such as washing, dressing, grooming, and mobility. This assistance not only ensures that basic needs are met but also fosters a sense of companionship and emotional connection for the residents.

RESPITE CARE: A Welcome Break

Respite care is another critical service provided by residential care homes.

This form of temporary care offers relief to family caregivers, allowing them to take a break while ensuring their loved ones receive professional attention and support. During respite care stays, seniors can engage in various activities, participate in social events, and access tailored care plans designed to meet their unique needs.

DEMENTIA CARE: Nurturing Minds & Hearts

Dementia care within residential homes requires a specialized approach. Staff members are trained to provide a safe and stimulating environment for individuals living with dementia. Activities and therapies are designed to engage residents’ cognitive abilities, promote memory retention, and encourage social interactions, enhancing their overall quality of life.

Comprehensive Services by Dedicated Staff

The staff members of residential care homes play a pivotal role in residents’ lives, offering a range of services to ensure their well-being:

Personal Care: Trained caregivers assist with daily tasks, including washing, dressing, and grooming. These activities foster a sense of selfworth and maintain residents’ dignity.

Toileting Assistance: For those who require help with toileting and hygiene, staff members are on hand to provide respectful and considerate support.

Medication Administration: Many residents require regular medications, and staff members ensure timely and accurate administration, maintaining residents’ health and safety.

LINCOLNSHIRE YOUNG CARERS SERVICE INFORMATION SHEET

The Lincolnshire Young Carers service is designed to help and support children and young people up to the age of 18 years who help to care for someone at home. That person may be a parent, sibling, grandparent, or any other relative who has a:

• Physical disability

• Mental health condition

• Learning disability

• Misuses alcohol or drugs

• Sensory impairment (hearing or sight loss)

• Life limiting condition

• Any other long term illness or condition

The role undertaken by young carers can include:

• Helping the person they care for to get dressed or washed

• Extra housework, shopping, or cooking

• Helping with medication

• Emotional support

• Helping a sibling with a disability

Young carers often take on responsibilities which affect their friendships and relationships, learning and development, health and wellbeing, or future career choices. They experience increased levels of stress or anxiety, feelings of isolation and loneliness, lack of time to take part in social activities, and difficulties in keeping up with their education or homework.

Lincolnshire Young Carers offers a comprehensive service which will give young carers someone who will assess their needs, provide information, and make sure the right support is provided.

Young Carers are entitled to an assessment under the Children & Families Act 2014, which means that it is our collective responsibility to ensure that children and young people receive this assessment to identify and meet their needs.

“Ofsted take particular interest in the experiences of more vulnerable children, including young carers, during inspections.” (Hansard, 2012)

Referrals into the service are made via an EHA (Early Help Assessment) form with an identified need of support around the caring role undertaken by the young person. This can be evidenced on page 4, using the 3 columns, to capture the Voice of the Child.

For example:

• What worries or concerns does the young person have around caring for their family member; what tasks do they like doing, not like doing, and why?

• What do they feel that they would like some help or support around?

• What do they feel needs to change in their caring role to make things better for them?

Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is a leading cause of vision loss for people aged 65 and older. Losing central vision can make it harder to see faces, drive, or do close-up work like cooking or fixing things around the house because the central retina known as the macula develops ‘Dry’ yellow degenerative lesions known as ‘Drusenoids or Drusen’. Globally, the prevalence of AMD is estimated to increase by 20% between 2020 (195.6 million) and 2030 (243.3 million).

To date, treatment options for Dry AMD have been limited to dietary supplements and lifestyle changes. However, Dr. Janjua and his team at O’Brien’s Opticians are

absolutely delighted to launch a new treatment for Dry AMD which is a safe, non-invasive and painless therapy. It is known as photobiomodulation (PBT) and is a cold laser system which utilise low levels of light including wavelengths of red, yellow and near infra-red to rejuvenate the retina on a cellular level by energising and providing oxygen to the all important retinal cells.

Recent clinical studies using this laser therapy have shown an increase in the vision and contrast sensitivity in 90% of individuals who obtained an improvement in visual acuity of 5-8 letters on the letter chart – which is up to 2 lines of improvement! A reduction in

drusen has also been seen! Initial research in Germany has also shown this therapy to help diabetics who have diabetic maculopathy.

If you suffer with Dry AMD , you are invited to discuss the possible benefits of you having this treatment with Dr. Janjua at O’Brien’s Opticians on Wrawby

IPL uses thermal pulses to stimulate the Meibomian glands, and LLLT uses a specific wavelength of light to gently heat the eyelids. Highlighting the fact that more than 100 people in the UK start to lose their sight each day, they are promoting the importance of the earliest possible diagnosis. With an ADVANCED Eye Examination being much more than a new pair of spectacles or contact lenses, the practice has invested in the most advanced diagnostic technology so early changes in the eye can be detected, long before there are any obvious symptoms: this allows for early treatment and better results. With the latest SPECTRALIS 4D high definition Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) imaging technology, Dr. Janjua is now able to identify and monitor the smallest change. The HEIDELBERG SPECTRALIS 4D HD OCT ADVANCED Eye Examination is the same instrument that can be found at some of the best hospital eye departments including the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham and Manchester’s Royal Eye Hospital. It uses a patented eye-tracking system that allows Dr. Janjua to identify those at risk of eye disease more easily. The tracking system allows the 3D scan to be placed in exactly the same place (to one micron which is a 1/100th of a hair) at each visit, giving a true 4D view of change over time. This helps to reveal eye disease which may not yet be noticeable by the patient or detectable with a basic eye exam. Fast, painless and non-contact, the scan does not include any bright flashes of light or puffs of air, and takes place in seconds. “We are really excited to offer our patients this new 4D HD OCT advanced eye examination,” said Dr. Janjua “Using the SPECTRALIS technology, we can examine tiny details that help us detect eye disease at the earliest stages, reducing the risk of sight loss and improving our patient’s lives.” Common eye diseases can impair vision and cause permanent vision loss if not caught at an early stage. The best preventative measure to protect good vision is an annual ADVANCED EYE EXAMINATION, and treatment when needed. O’Brien’s Opticians are dedicated to providing patients with the highest quality ophthalmic lenses and now the most technologically advanced care. Enjoy the calm tranquility

Escape to the countryside and experience the freedom of the great outdoors at Camper UK Leisure Park, a breathtakingly beautiful location that has been meticulously built and maintained. Situated in rural Lincolnshire, you can enjoy the calm tranquility of the countryside whilst still being a short car ride away from the lovely city of Lincoln, making it an ideal place for all types of campers!

Open all year round, we are a family run Leisure Park catering for Motorhomes, Touring Caravans, Luxury Lodges, Glamping and Camping. The park offers 28 well-maintained electric pitches, including hard-standing and grass pitches, fit for Motorhomes and Caravans. All pitches are accompanied by our two well-equipped heated utility blocks to make longer visits even more accommodating. The large Rally Area is available to reserve for Clubs or other organised events.

Our newest additions to the Leisure Park, are the Glamping Pods, that provide all the best parts of traditional camping without the hassle. The Glamping Pods include a double sofa bed, a heater, bistro set, mini fridge, kettle, as well as table and chairs. Overlooking the newly landscaped fishing pond, our cozy Glamping Pods provide a unique getaway option to be at one with nature, whilst enjoying a new level of comfort and relaxation. This also provides a perfect spot for all our fisherman friends who love to fish from their doorstep!

For the more active, there are numerous local cycle routes and walking paths to explore rural Lincolnshire. The Camper UK Leisure Park also boasts a beautiful lake that is situated at the heart of our site which is well-stocked with common and mirror Carp, perfect for fishing! Every comfort required is certain to be found at our Leisure Park as

our customer’s peace and serenity is paramount.

To ensure that the Leisure Park is pristinely kept in immaculate condition, our site manager John lives on-site so that he is always readily available to accommodate all our guests needs. John and Kelly are highly praised by everyone who visits our Leisure Park: their warm welcome and ‘nothing is too much trouble’ attitude mean any issues will be solved as soon as possible so you can enjoy every minute of your stay with us!

We are always looking to improve our Leisure Park, adding new lodges at every opportunity, meaning we now have 9 options of luxury lodge for you to choose from! Our most recent lodge, the Kestrel, new for 2023, has already been a huge success with its huge open plan living space and two comfortable bedrooms, it’s the perfect home away from home… We have lodges to cater for all groups: those that sleep two, for a lovely romantic getaway, four berths to catch up with friends, the Stable Cottage which holds six, great for a family get-together, and some of our lodges even have hot tubs!
