CO-CURRICULUM Senior School 2026 2027
A Voyage of Enrichment and Discovery At Walthamstow Hall we have a positive and vibrant community where pupils are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunities open to them. In keeping with the School’s emblem of a ‘ship’, the co-curricular programme may best be viewed as a ‘voyage’ of enrichment and discovery. Pupils learn to navigate their passage throughout their school journey, by being prepared to take risks and try out new things. We have a strong sense of ‘having a go’ and pupils are encouraged to park any preconceptions they may have (“I can’t sing”, ‘I’m not sporty”) at the door and to throw themselves into lots of activities. Co-curricular activities are accessible and the vast majority are open to all comers. Pupils are encouraged to sign up for a minimum of three. Clubs run before school from 7:15am, at lunchtime (1pm or 1:30pm start) and after school until 5:15/30pm. Many clubs continue across the year, however seasonal clubs are added on for specific terms. For example, cricket and tennis in the summer. Whilst ensuring academic excellence and intellectual challenge, equal emphasis is given to supporting the development of the whole person. This is underpinned by the school’s core values of building resilience, ambition and humour, alongside maintaining its strong ethos of empathy and service to others, within and beyond the school community. The result is that Walthamstow Hall pupils are multifaceted, interesting and curious individuals who are fantastic at balancing priorities. We begin each Autumn Term with a Co-Curricular Fair, allowing all students to browse all that is on offer . Clubs officially begin in week two By where attendance is monitored. Feedback from the students on club choice and access is gathered via termly surveys.

Robotics Pupils can flex their computer design muscles in a variety of digitally led clubs in our impressive Computer Science suite. Clubs include Film & Media, Robotics (with Mr Smith or with Subject Captains), AI and Lego Modelling.
Netball Walthamstow Hall prides itself on its excellent track record in netball. This club allows all levels to access the sport, and perhaps represent the school!
Greenpower In this club, students maintain the school’s self built electric race car. There is even the opportunity to drive and race the car at various events in the UK!

Art The Creative Arts play a vital part in school life. In Years 7, 8 and 9 all pupils study Art, Creative Textiles and 3D Design and many go on to study at GCSE and A Level. Wally enjoys impressive creative arts resources and the School’s pride in the quality of the Art, Textiles, Three Dimensional Design and Photography is clearly demonstrated by the whole school acting as an Art Gallery with new ‘exhibitions’ hung during the School year. Students studying Fine Art, 3DD or Textiles have the opportunity for extra studio time in the CoCurricular timetable. Under the guidance of our highly experienced Art Studio teaching staff. Drama Drama is part of the lifeblood of Walthamstow Hall and our performances are widely known for their highly professional standards. There is a plethora of opportunities for pupils to work backstage or perform in School productions which are always greatly supported by fellow pupils, parents, staff, governors and the local community.
Model United Nations aims to engage students in the world of international diplomacy. Students are assigned a country to represent at the London School of Economics Model United Nations Conference in February. In the months that precede the conference, they work in a team to study the particular needs of a country and how they can work with other nations to best solve international problems like human trafficking, the humanitarian crisis in Syria and improving the rights of pupils world-wide. At the conference, they learn to how to assert their positions and persuade others to join them. Students leave the conference with not only a sound understanding of global issues and confidence in their ability to make a difference, but with friends from all over the UK and the world .

Legend: / = Clubs available to year group Enterprise Club Students are given the opportunity to set up and run their own company. They decide on a company name, a product, how and where to market the product and attend various selling opportunities. The team competes against other schools in the West Kent Area at trade fairs and in a final presentation evening where the winners go through to the Kent final. The next stage is South East finals followed by the National final, which is usually held in London. Enjoying genuine success and overcoming real setbacks make this a valuable life experience.
Student Librarians The opportunity to become a Student Librarian is open to all years. Students learn the skills a Librarian needs and contribute to the School community as part of a team. This includes earning the right to wear a librarian position of
responsibility badge. It also serves as a volunteering opportunity for those doing the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Responsibilities include shelving, book processing, creating displays, and writing book reviews.

Diary of a Wally Kid is the Library Book Club which shadows the Carnegie Medal for Writing every year in the summer term. Students read and review as many of the 8 shortlisted books as possible and then get to vote for the Shadower's Choice Award. This year, our voting meeting included a Traitors-style game and lots of snacks.
Queer History Club is run by students in yr12 for all students to enjoy. The group meets in the Library and will discuss a different queer figure in History each week.
Sport All Walthamstow Hall pupils enjoy use of fantastic Sports facilities. At the centre of our sporting world is the Sports Centre, opened by six pupils (all national champions) in 2015. The Sports Centre includes a Sports Hall with four Badminton Courts, a Gym, Fitness Suite, Dance Studio and sports classroom. The Co-Curricular timetable allows pupils to ‘have a go’ at a number of sports from badminton to netball to gymnastics.

Swimming Our Sports Centre sits alongside the School’s 25m, 6 lane Swimming Pool, allowing pupils throughout the school access to regular swim training and squad level opportunities.
Sport Our aim is for pupils to discover physical activities they will enjoy throughout their time at school and beyond. Many discover a talent that enables them to excel and we encourage all to achieve their personal best and develop a love of physical activity which will establish healthy habits for life. Popular clubs include Gymnastics and Cheerleading.
Wildlife Club The School is following the Natural History Museum’s Nature Park and Climate Action awards scheme. Aimed at maximising the potential of the school grounds as a nature reserve. Wildlife club will be central to the delivery of this scheme, learning about our local wildlife, combined with projects to protect it and increase biodiversity. Music Music is an integral part of everyday life at Walthamstow Hall, both in and out of the classroom. With dedicated facilities, an expert and enthusiastic teaching team, specialist visiting music teachers, a wide array of co-curricular ensembles, and an exciting academic curriculum, there is music-making on offer to pupils of all ages, abilities, and experience.
