A recent UK study showed that people who have spent 30 minutes or more each day during the pandemic on actions such as engaging in a creative hobby have lower reported rates of depression and anxiety and greater life satisfaction.

Keeping Arts + Rec Safe We’re keeping Arts + Rec safe with enhanced safety protocols, including face coverings required for participants and staff, access to hand sanitizer and handwashing stations, and reduced class sizes for social distancing. Since the start of the pandemic, we’ve safely served hundreds of participants in physically distanced programs following State and County guidance.

All Arts + Rec programs will follow these core safety guidelines: • Protective masks required for all participants (age 2 and older) and staff • Daily wellness checks and temperature screenings for participants and staff • Physical distancing measures in place • Strict handwashing procedures in place • Regular cleaning and disinfecting of spaces • Dedicated custodial team for cleaning and sanitation • Hand sanitizer readily available • Contact-free registration and ticket purchasing available • Soft barriers at all guest-facing stations Learn more about our safety protocols at walnut-creek.org/artsrecsafety.

BEDFORD GALLERY EXHIBITION See it before it flies off!

Bird, Nest, Nature is on view at Bedford Gallery through February 7, 2021 Flock to Bedford Gallery for their uplifting exhibition Bird, Nest, Nature! This juried and invitational show features over 150 local, national and international artists all inspired by the exquisite beauty of creatures of flight.

AQUATICS PROGRAMS Clarke Swim Center is now taking one-hour reservations for public lap swimming. All swimmers must have a reservation to enter the facility. Patrons may use reserved lanes for Lap Swim, Water Exercise, or Water Walking.

Reservations are available online one week in advance. You may use your lap swim pass to reserve online or pay the drop in fee.

Recreational swim and swim lesson opportunities are not currently available.

REGISTRATION POLICIES

PRE-REGISTRATION: Pre-registration is required for participation in programs. Please do not attend a class if you have not been registered.

CONFIRMATION: Confirmations can be printed or emailed upon registration. If you do not receive your confirmation, please call (925) 295-1490.

WITHDRAWALS: If you wish to withdraw, call us at least five (5) business days before the start date for a refund. A $12 withdrawal fee per person, per class will be charged.

No refunds or credits after this time. Refunds are processed within three weeks. No refunds for non-attendance or lack of student participation.

TRANSFERS: If you wish to transfer to another course within the same session, call us at least five (5) full business days before the start date for a transfer to be processed.

QUALITY ASSURANCE: If, after attending the first class, you are not happy with the quality of the program, call us right away.

Tell us what was wrong so we can make it right.

WAITING LISTS: Waiting lists are established once a class has reached maximum enrollment. If space opens or a new class is created, you will be notified.

CANCELLATION: A class may be cancelled if minimum enrollment is not met. A full refund is available. If a session is canceled due to weather and no make-up class is offered, a refund will be provided.

MAKE-UP CLASSES: Make-up dates for missed classes will only be granted for class cancellations resulting from inclement weather or from direction of the Arts + Recreation Department.

ADA ACCOMMODATIONS: In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the City of Walnut Creek encourages those with disabilities to participate in our programs.

PAYMENT & ACCOUNT CREDIT POLICIES: • Fees must be paid in full at time of registration by cash, credit card or check payable to the City of Walnut Creek, unless otherwise stated.

• All payments are processed upon receipt.

• Supply fees are payable to the instructor at the first class. Please do not include supply fees with your registration fees. Supply fees are non-refundable.

• If payment plans are offered, customers must provide a credit card for automatic payment processing.

• All credits on account are valid for a maximum of one year.

Facility REntals

Senior Hotline For help with general questions about what stores are open, where to find information, how to get transportation and how to navigate online services call the Senior Hotline at (925) 943-5852 or email cpcc@walnut-creek.org. Calls are answered Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., but you can leave a message after hours and your call will be returned.

The health and safety of our community is our highest priority. Facilities will be available to rent based on the current guidelines from Contra Costa Health Services, which may include restrictions on usage and size of groups.

Senior Transportation Program The City of Walnut Creek is utilizing the ride sharing app Lyft to expand its transportation services. In addition to the Senior Mini Bus program (which is currently not operating), the Lyft pilot program will provide rides, allowing members the freedom to get where they need to be within the borders of Walnut Creek.
