Camp Overnighter

Our once-a-summer overnighter for our Summer Camp Day Camps. The evening will be filled with games, stories and entertainment provided by our 2011 Camp Leaders. The children will enjoy a tasty dinner. Bagels and juice will be served for breakfast. Requires enrollment in Walnut Creek Day Camp, Afternoon Adventurers, or Walnut Creek Sports Camp.

Participants must have been enrolled in a session ending on or before the Overnighter.

Summer

Night & Day

26th Annual Paper Boat Race

Each year, staff representatives from each Recreation Summer Camp (Tenderfoot, Little Walnut, Walnut Creek Day Camp, Afternoon Adventures, Walnut Creek Sports Camp and Specialized Recreation Camp) compete in a cardboard boat race across the lap pool. Themed boats are made of masking tape, cardboard, and white glue. Each boat is large enough to carry a camp leader across the pool and back. Awards are given both to the race winner and to the camp with the most creative theme. Campers from afternoon camps attend the race during camp hours. Morning-only campers are encouraged to attend the event with their parents or guardians to participate in the boat parade and support their counselors in the cheering section.

Funshine Club

Give your 3-to-4 year old child the social, creative learning, and success-oriented experiences needed for healthy development.

After Lunch Bunch

This program involves participation in language, math, science, art, music and fun. It is designed for the older 4-to-5 year old who has not attended kindergarten. Parents provide daily snacks on a rotating basis. Children must be potty-trained and preschool experienced. Directed by Trish Konzak.

Preschool Camps

Camp Tenderfoot

Camp Tenderfoot is specially designed to be a child’s first day camp experience. Children build confidence and develop social skills while making new friends in a safe, supportive environment.

Our warm, nurturing staff provide age-appropriate arts and crafts, games, water play and other exciting adventures designed to promote creativity and socialization. Campers must be potty-trained.

Each session revolves around a special theme that includes a daily craft, playtime, stories, as well as featuring special park and water days. A camp t-shirt is included with each registration.

Session 2: Safari Adventure Class 16328 7/5-7/14 Explore life on land from the tiniest backyard bugs all the way to great beasts of the animal kingdom. An activity coordinated with the Lindsay Wildlife Museum will take place on Friday, July 8th.

Session 3: Wacky World Class 16329 7/18-7/28 Spanning the whole spectrum of games, crafts, and activities, there will be no stop to the children’s creativity. We will be making magic wands, marble paintings, pet rocks, and tie-dye shirts, and much more!

Session 4: Imagination & Exploration Class 16330 8/1-8/11 Exploring a whole fantasy world of imagination, we will be making super-capes, designing our own aprons, molding sculptures, and making our own musical instruments!

Tenderfoot or Little Walnut

Which program is right for your camper?

Crafts and games, socialization, and tons of fun can be found in both programs, but there are some differences. Tenderfoot campers are a little younger than our Little Walnuts. If your child has not yet started preschool, Tenderfoot is a great start. Children who have had more school or play group experiences will find Little Walnut camp a perfect fit. Whichever camp you choose, our program leaders will make sure that your child has a wonderful summer!

Summer at Camp Little Walnut is filled with fun, excitement and creativity. Our age-appropriate games and activities build confidence and inspire independence on a daily basis. Each week includes special themed activities and adventures designed to delight kids and keep them excited to come back every morning.

Week 6: Wacky Week Class 16336 7/25-7/29 Spanning a wonderfully wacky spectrum of games, crafts, and activities, there will be no stop to the children’s creativity. We will be making magic wands, pet rocks, tie-dye shirts, and more!

Week 7: Local Heroes Class 16337 8/1-8/5 Campers will be learning about some of the most heroic professions directly from our local firefighters and policemen. We will be receiving visits from a police officer and a fire truck as well as creating our own police badges and fireman hats!

Week 8: Imagination & Exploration Class 16338 8/8-8/12 We will be taking the children into a whole fantasy world of imagination where they’ll make supercapes, design aprons, mold sculptures, and create musical instruments! From super-heroes to famous chefs, musicians to the next Pablo Picasso, the campers could just very well figure out what they want to be when they grow up!

Enrichment

Kids Kids’ Carpentry Camp Cooking— Lifetime carpentry skills such as problem-solving, measuring and applied mathematics are taught in a fun, supportive atmosphere.

Greek The safe use of woodworking hand tools is emphasized while boys and girls work together on boats, bird feeders, doll furniture, Dinner games, clocks and more. Tools and wood are provided. Program

Enjoy five great days of cooking this summer learning recipes for a complete Greek dinner. Recipes include Greek salad, dinner rolls, rice pilaf, grilled tofu/meat on skewers and custard rolls for dessert. Campers will not only learn how to safely use kitchen utensils and appliances, but also the importance of nutrition and proper clean up. Funds received by the Cooking with Kids Foundation for this class will go to support its work in bringing the program to underserved children at risk for obesity and diabetes. Chess Camp

The camp includes chess instruction for all levels. Emphasis is on the joy of the game, but with a serious eye to the student’s progress.

LEGO® Sports Bots

Design and build motorized machines, catapults, pyramids, demolition derby cars, truss and suspension bridges, buildings, and other constructions. Explore concepts in physics, mechanical engineering, structural engineering, and architecture, while playing with your favorite creations. This is a hands-on and minds-on class suitable for everyone from LEGO building system novices to LEGO ‘maniacs.’ Returning students will work on new projects and challenges. Your team will compete to design and build the fastest, strongest, smallest, largest, lightest, heaviest, most maneuverable, most durable, and coolest machines and structures to accomplish a variety of tasks. Success in the competition will necessitate construction of trucks, bridges, elevators, bulldozers, conveyor belts, and other motorized and alternatively-powered contraptions to overcome obstacles. Sign-up for Mad Science Flight Academy and explore the fundamentals of flight. Learn characteristics of the planets and discover the wonders of the Milky Way. See how air and wind affect kites, hot air balloons and parachutes. Discover the fundamentals of rocketry, the stages of rocket flight and experiment with huge water rocket launches. Mad Machines & Robots

Whether your child loves to build things or destroy them, this week of camp includes lots of both! The junior Mad Science engineers will design and build structures using simple tools and their imaginations.

Kids will even construct a geodesic dome big enough for all the campers to sit inside! Next, campers will design simple machines using pulleys, wedges, screws and levers and have fun learning how catapults work. Then we move on to fun with the Mad Science robots! Each camper will build robots to keep, all the while learning the science of robotics. Instructor: Mad Science.

Summer is the most memorable time of year for children. Kids will enjoy water, fresh air and sunshine in a safe and supportive environment. Crafts, games, swimming and other themed adventures promote individuality and creativity on a daily basis. Watch your child build relationships with other local children and find great role models in our trained staff. Campers spend mornings at their selected program, and at Heather Farm Park. Each week features a themed special event. A camp T-shirt is included with each registration. Children enjoy allday excursions on Thursdays—dates and location subject to change.

Kidz Love Soccer Camp Mini-Skyhawk Camp Spend a week enjoying the world’s most popular sport in a fun, recreational environment. Learn and practice soccer skills including: dribbling, passing, receiving, and shooting. More experienced players will work on developing advanced dribbling skills and team tactics.

Everyone is a winner as the week’s fun culminates in an age-appropriate ‘World Cup’ tournament. All campers receive a soccer ball and KLS jersey. Shin guards required. Instructor: Kidz Love Soccer.

This multi-sport program gives young children a positive first step into athletics. Baseball, basketball and soccer are taught in a safe, structured environment with lots of encouragement and a big focus on fun. Our Mini-Hawk games and activities were designed to allow campers to explore balance, movement, hand/eye coordination and skill development at their own pace.

Walnut Creek Sports Camp

Age: 9y-13y

We are offering a fully staffed and supervised recreational athletic camp. The program consists of 8 weeks of sessions with your choice of two different sports for each of the sessions with a 9th week session offering bowling. Our camp is specifically designed to teach and develop training skills, basic individual skills, sportsmanship, team strategies and concepts as well as building confidence and self discipline. Focus is also on having fun and enjoyment of the sport. Swimming (M, W, F), recreational games and field trips on Thursday are all part of each session.

Drop-Off/Pick Up: Campers are dropped off at Foothill Community Gymnasium in the morning. They are transported to Heather Farm Park each afternoon. Pick up is always at Heather Farm Park.

Junior Recreation Leader

Teens ages 13-15 are invited to sign up for the Junior Recreation Leader program and learn the fundamentals of being a Recreation Leader! Teens will spend 12-35 hours per week assisting staff members in various City day camps. Program includes training, t-shirt, instruction from experienced staff and a completion certificate. The first day of each session consists of mandatory training from 9:00am-2:00pm at the Heather Farm Community Center. Enrollment limited to one session. Walk-in registration only beginning March 7. Dave DeLong Junior Golf Camp

Whether your child has never been on the course before or is an advanced junior golfer, the Dave DeLong Junior Golf Camp is the right place to develop the talents and skills necessary to become a better golfer while having fun. During camp, your child will receive professional golf instruction from the basics of grip and stance to the finer points of swing mechanics, while learning essential life skills in a supportive environment. In addition to access to Boundary Oak’s first-class practice facilities, like an allgrass driving range and four practice greens, all campers will play 54 holes on the championship golf course. June 20-July 22 In this ever popular 5-week summer program with the theme of “Our Planet Earth: Keeping It Clean and Healthy!”, kids K–9 will explore the arts and their creativity, renew friendships and make new friends. This year’s kids will enjoy a variety of arts, music and creative hands-on classes.

New modifications have been made this year for easier class selection and enrollment information. Grade 1-4 children will enjoy picking from several electives while 5th–9th graders will select from a wide range of winning choices such as clay, glass, painting and drawing, cooking, fashion, leather working, and more! The program is the same high quality for which Civic Arts Education is known and it will run five weeks from late June through July.

The faculty are fully qualified and experienced adult artists and teachers who love teaching kids and the opportunity to teach something they enjoy in a relaxing and stimulating environment.

Specialized Recreation Camp

Specialized Recreation Summer Day Camp

This summer camp is carefully designed for children, teens and young adults who have special needs. Our professionally-trained staff create a loving and nurturing environment for your child.

Emphasis is placed on social interaction, recreational and educational activities, community involvement and weekly excursions.

Campers experience a fun-filled day camp with crafts, games, nature study, music, sports, drama and swimming. Activities for teens and young adults help to develop independent living skills such as shopping, cooking, social skills and environmental education.

Services of a Personal Nature: The Camp does not provide assistance in eating and toileting and although our staff/volunteer to camper ratio is very high (3 to 1 or 2 to 1) this does not mean that we are able to provide 1 to 1 care for your child during the camp.
