Walloon Woodies History My father, Jack Kidd, always had a passion for wooden boats, the older the boat, the better. This love of the past prompted him to organize a get together of the lake’s wooden boat owners. He wanted to create a very casual event where Walloon’s wooden boat owners could share in the camaraderie that comes from caring for and enjoying these important pieces of history. He called it the “Walloon Woodies.” The first meeting was at the Walloon Lake Country Club on a warm July day in 1992 and was attended by 12 boats. What started as a very informal rendezvous at the country club 28 years ago has grown into a gathering of what many now say is, “ a gathering of some of the most significant classic boats anywhere in the country.” As a Chris-Craft owner myself, I am proud to carry on the tradition of organizing this terrific event in honor of my father.
