We worked with the coworking company Industrious and the lifestyle brand Equinox to create a coworking space that mixes the best qualities that each company has to offer. We were able to hold ourselves to the highest standards of quality in terms of project delivery despite a very rapid timescale.

The end result was a seamless integration of Equinox’s aesthetic and Industrious’s program, and this location had a vacancy rate lower than any other Industrious location up until Covid-19 lowered the demand for workspace in New York City.

Functionally speaking, the space is run by Industrious. Unlike its other locations, however, this space is designed to be unique to its location, which is a part of Equinox’s tower at Hudson Yards. Equinox provided the design direction, while JHA acted as executive architect, while also playing a role in figuring out how to meld the two companies’ visions.

The design concept of the coworking space is centered around a modern and minimalistic theme, featuring clean lines and simple yet elegant furniture pieces. The space is designed to be an inviting and comfortable workspace, providing users with a cozy environment that promotes productivity and creativity. The color scheme is neutral and calming, with muted tones of light wood, greys, and black. The space is complemented by ample natural light, which helps to create an open and airy atmosphere.

The open floor plan of the coworking space is optimized for flexibility and functionality. The furniture pieces are modular and can be easily rearranged to accommodate various work styles and preferences. The layout is designed to foster collaboration and networking, with communal areas that encourage interaction among users. The meeting rooms and private offices are strategically placed to provide users with privacy and seclusion when needed.

Our role was to ensure that all of the design and programmatic elements maintained their integrity as the project became a reality. Additionally, we needed to ensure that the acoustic properties of the various spaces were appropriate for the variety of functions that take place. Similarly, with exposed ceilings, great care needed to be taken to ensure that mechanical systems, lighting, and sprinklers were all well- ordered.
