Gaining Essential Networking Tools for Success (G.E.N.T.S.)
The Alpha G.E.N.T.S. Mentoring Program, founded in 2003, was establishedtoequipyoungmenofcolor,ages13to18,withthetools necessary to become successful, productive members of society Designedwiththebeliefthatopportunityshouldnotbedeterminedby zip code or background, the program specifically addresses the opportunity gap that affects Black and Latino youth Through a structuredandsupportiveenvironment,AlphaG.E.N.T.S.helpsmentees cultivate the academic, professional, and personal skills needed to thrive
At the heart of the program is a core curriculum rooted in three essential pillars: Leadership Development, College and Career Readiness, and Financial Literacy. These pillars serve as a foundation for transformative learning and growth, and are supported by consistent, one-on-one mentorship The mentor-mentee relationship is not only instrumental in transmitting these skills but also in building a strong sense of accountability, discipline, and purpose in eachyoungscholar
The program ’ s results speak volumes While only 70% of African-American young men graduate high school in New York, Alpha GENTS boasts a 99% graduation rate among its participants since 2004 Over 300 young men have successfully graduated from high school within four years thanks to their involvement in the program, setting a strongprecedentforcontinuedacademic and professional achievement These outcomes reflect the powerful impact of structured mentorship and targeted programming
Supported by the William E Ross Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization,AlphaGENTS ispartofabroadermissiontoempowerunderserved communities through education, financial literacy, and health awareness.
