Renovate with Confidence British Columbians love their homes. So much so they will spend more than $7 billion on home renovation and improvement in 2014, 65% of which will be done in Metro Vancouver. From building an outdoor oasis to completely transforming a family dwelling, homeowners look forward to creating their dream homes, but as renovations have become more complicated and multi-faceted, professional renovators are concerned that the high demand for renovation work has brought unqualified contractors into the market and created a burgeoning underground economy in illegal cash deals. To provide homeowners with greater confidence when hiring renovation contractors, the Renovation Council of the Greater Vancouver Home Builders’ Association (GVHBA) has adopted RenoMarkTM. An industry-developed program supported by home builders’ associations across Canada, RenoMarkTM identifies renovation contractors who have agreed to abide by the GVHBA Code of Ethics as well as a renovation-specific 10-point Code of Conduct: • Be a member in good standing of the GVHBA. • Abide by the GVHBA Code of Ethics. • Provide a detailed, written contract (including scope of work) for all jobs. • Offer a minimum two-year warranty on all work (excludes minor repair work). • Carry a minimum of $2 million liability insurance. • Have coverage for workplace safety and employers’ liability and/or work only with sub-contractors who carry such coverage. • Carry applicable licenses and permits.

The GVHBA is proudly affiliated with the provincial and national Canadian Home Builders’ Associations. The GVHBA, which already has an active and respected Renovation Council, is the first association in B.C. to adopt the RenoMarkTM program, to help build consumer confidence when hiring professional renovators.
