We always underestimate how much time it will take to pack it up. Don’t make your next move a nightmare, start packing when you start thinking about moving. Just start throwing out, selling and donating everything and anything you don’t need. Start packing up those out-ofseason items, you won’t need them.

Stratford is a great place to live if you love good food, good wine, and good times. It’s a vibrant cultural city whose population demonstrates a commitment to sustainability and community building.
If the arts and culinary scene or local history aren’t enough to inspire you, Stratford also offers a robust array of amateur teams playing various sports, as well as its own Junior “B” hockey team, the Stratford Cullitons. Eclectic, artistic, and slightly gothic, Stratford has a pretty magical feel that isn’t limited to the famous Festival season. You can expect top-notch service and a welcoming attitude from virtually everyone you encounter year-round, and even a dreary December afternoon feels like a holiday here. There’s a friendly rural community within the city, but
whether you’re raising hogs or playing The Dane, everyone seems to get along just fine. You’re just as likely to meet a farmer as a foodie in town, and factory workers and fashion designers rub shoulders regularly. Demographically, the 2011 Census reveals a pretty even three-way split between married or cohabiting couples with children, couples without offspring, and single people. No stats exist on the number of dogs living in handbags, but it’s safe to say Stratford’s numbers would be slightly higher than average. It’s rare to find such a diversity of great independent restaurants, guest houses, bars and shops in a city this size. Downtown boutiques and boîtes cater to an upscale crowd’s demands, but at far less painful prices than you’ll find in bigger centres.

Moving on from your roommate

MOVING ON FROM your roommate is a delicate situation and not to mention, a complicated one. Unlike BeyoncÊ’s 2006 Irreplaceable music video where she put her boyfriend out of the house with one swift kick to the backside, your roomie break-up will require a bit more patience and planning. It wont be as easy as putting all of their belongings in a box and singing to the left, to the left, everything you own in the box to the left. Besides, sometimes friends just need to move on - no drama required.

What you and your roommate need is a plan of action. One that will leave both parties feeling at ease and with some sense of security concerning the changes that are about to take place. Once you’ve seen the signs and are ready to move on, consider these steps to ensure you keep the peace and move on from your roommate the mature way : FACE THE MUSIC You decided you’re ready to move on, now just tell your roommate already! Don’t leave them in the dark about your plans to move in with your significant other or to get a bigger place. This will be a big change for the both of you and one that requires an upfront conversation. No Post-It Note break ups allowed! TIMING IS EVERYTHING Whether you’re the one moving out or not, you need to give your roommate sufficient time to plan. Do they need to find a new place or a new roommate? It’s a big change and one that comes with the financial burden of potentially not being able to meet the entire months rent alone or not being able to find a place in their budget. Plan in a timely manner to ensure a smooth transition. BE CONSIDERATE You might be ready to move on, but your roommate may not. Be considerate of their needs and concerns. Offer to help them move out or help them find a new place to rent if possible. Breaking up may just be a question of moving on and it doesn’t have to be on bad terms. BE READY TO COMPROMISE You’ve come to terms with parting ways, now how do you divide a couch? Moving on also means dividing common goods you may have purchased together like the couch, the toaster and even the cat. Be prepared to compromise. In the end, you’re just going to have to deal with letting some things go. FOLLOW-UP You and your roommate have officially moved on. Follow-up with each other (i.e go out for a drinks) or let them know if you received mail that belongs to them or if you have any phone messages to forward them.
