There are schools, trails and there is a sense of safety due in large part to neighbourhood associations taking back their community with events and activities that draw in positive influences and visitors. It’s a brief walk to take the kids to school or one of many parks, hit the rail trail, hop on

the GO or walk to downtown.

Work, play and dine is the essence in the air of today’s Corktown. There are dozens of options for shopping and dining. Bikable and walkable, it ranks high on walkability scales.

Corktown is home to about 7,500 residents. Still the home of old-timers who moved into affordable cottages a lifetime ago, they are slowly being purchased by those looking for city living. Some rowhouses are being converted to live/work homes and businesses are fuelling the redux.

Not downtown, but close enough, Corktown offers the best of both worlds: nightlife plus a place to live

in an area following the trends of city living. The Art Deco-styled Hamilton GO Station is ideal for commuters.

With its tiny streets and dead ends truncated by the CN tracks and overpasses, traffic is often limited. The Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) offers regular bus service. There is also DARTS service for those who require accessible transportation. Corktown is only a few minutes from the Wellington access up the escarpment or into downtown.

Ontario building bike storage at GO stations and carpool lots ONTARIO IS MAKING IT EASIER for cyclists to commute to and from work, school and appointments with the construction of new, secure bike storage lockers at GO Transit stations and car pool lots across southern Ontario. This investment is part of Ontario’s Climate Change Action Plan and is funded by proceeds from the province’s cap on pollution and carbon market.

Minister of Transportation Steven Del Duca and Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport Eleanor McMahon were in Burlington recently to launch the new Commuter Bike Parking Program, which will help encourage people to take their bikes as part of their daily commute.

Details: • Eight bike lockers will be installed at 15 commuter parking lots across the Greater Toronto Hamilton Area, Niagara and Simcoe Region for a total of 120 bike lockers.

Work will be finished by the end of March 2018.

• Twenty-eight bike rooms will be installed at 26 GO Transit stations in the Greater Toronto Area over the next four years as part of Ontario’s GO RER program, expanding storage capacity while enhancing security. The first locations, which will be complete by spring 2018 include, Appleby, Markham, Mount Pleasant, Bronte, Unionville, and Stouffville.
