Eglinton is a vibrant community with a financial centre, nightlife, businesses, entertainment, parks, dining and upscale shopping. It’s a great neighbourhood for strolling, as well as a perfect place to live, especially if you require public transit. The library as well as several schools – both public and private – are in the area, including the prestigious Havergal College for girls and Upper Canada College for boys. Eglinton Park is massive, with everything from tennis and baseball diamonds to a playground and winter ice skating.

THERE’S AN OLD SAYING about being penny wise and pound foolish, and I see this play out often in the moving industry. When anticipating moving your home or business, you have the option of hiring a moving company or doing it yourself. Although people assume DIY is the economical way to go, hiring a professional mover can, in fact, save you time, stress and even money. Think about it. By doing it yourself, you have to rent a truck, determine supplies/moving equipment and other incidentals. You need to transfer your possessions from point A to B safely and efficiently, and find helpers. Few are qualified or willing to get behind the wheel of a moving truck, so likely what you end up with is a cargo van, which requires more than one trip. You ask a few friends and/ or family members to help with the reward of cold beverages and pizza, but at the last minute, some of them do not show up. Those who do are probably not trained in things like how to lift boxes without hurting their backs. There is much more chance of injury when people move themselves. The most common reason why people opt for DIY is expense, because they assume that longtime, recognized, national brand movers are expensive. Relocation specialists offer skilled, trained, bonded, uniformed and experienced movers who have the same goal in mind as you — to move your items as quickly and as safely as possible. EMPLOYERS CHECK REFERENCES, landlords check references, and if you’re considering someone as a roommate, you should check their references too. A person can seem charming initially, then later on turn into a nightmare. Do your homework and avoid such situations. Have a rental application form that’s appropriate for your province. It will cover all the bases. Discuss how they feel about overnight visitors, smoking, pets, sharing household chores, etc. Asking why they left their last place and how long they lived there is important. The application form will have a spot for references. Ask for references from their current employer, a previous landlord and at least one previous roommate. Tell them that you will call these people
to verify employment status and their previous housing history. By providing contact information for these references, the prospective roommate is giving you permission to contact them. Check your province’s privacy and human rights laws for what you are allowed to ask and what isn’t okay. When calling an employer, state that you are verifying the potential roommate’s employment status and character, not doing an employment check for another job. When calling a previous landlord, find out how long the person lived there, whether they paid their rent on time or if there were any other pertinent issues, and why they left. If this information doesn’t match what the person told you, you may need to clarify.

1. Spring cleaning tip #1: Simplify your cleaning products Limit spring cleaning products to a quality window/glass cleaner, allpurpose cleaner, tile/grout cleaner and a toilet bowl cleaner. 2. Spring cleaning tip #2: The Molly Maid system Clean each room from the top to the bottom starting on the left and moving right. This really is the quickest and most efficient way to thoroughly spring clean your home. 3. Spring cleaning tip #3: Dust first, vacuum second Any bits of dust or dirt that fall to the floor as you’re dusting will be picked up by the vacuum cleaner. 4. Spring cleaning tip #4: Dust with a damp, clean microfiber cloth Hold the cloth by a corner and lightly mist with clean water from a spray bottle. The cloth should be just damp enough to pick up dust without leaving moisture streaks on the furniture surface.

5. Spring cleaning tip #5: Pet hair Remove it from upholstery with a damp microfibre cloth or rubber glove. 6. Spring cleaning tip #6: Damp mop First sweep or vacuum floors to collect crumbs and dirt. Then start washing the floor in the farthest corner of the room and work your way towards the door. Use a damp cloth on the end of a mop handle to reach the narrow space between appliances. 7. Spring cleaning tip #7: Microwave spatters Fill a cup with water and microwave on high for a few minutes. The steam will loosen any baked on food so you can easily wipe it clean. Before wiping the microwave, remember to be extra careful when removing the cup of water as it will be hot. 8. Spring cleaning tip #8: Dish cloths and sponges These are germ incubators, if you don’t clean them you’re just spreading the bacteria around. Wash dish cloths regularly, and microwave damp sponges on high for several minutes
to kill bacteria. Even better, toss the sponge and stick to microfibre cloths, which dry quickly when hung up and help prevent the spread of germs. 9. Spring cleaning tip #9: The toothbrush Use a toothbrush for hard-to-reach areas in the bathroom and kitchen (for example, around the soap holder, taps and drain). 10. Spring cleaning tip #10: Streaks on the balcony door Streaks are tricky to eliminate. When spring cleaning, wipe the interior side of the glass horizontally and the exterior side vertically. STILL LOOKS LIKE MOVE-IN DAY Decorating a rental might feel impossible because of painting and other decor restrictions, but leaving your apartment bare gives off the impression that you’re lazy and uninventive. You have paintings to hang up, they’ve just been leaning against the wall since move-in day and any other attempt at home decor basically began and ended when you bought red pillows for the living room. White walls and parquet flooring is not a home style! Stop being afraid of taking a few risks and start adding some personality to your home.
MIX AND MATCH EVERYTHING You don’t like to be confined by labels or limited by a certain aesthetic. You have eclectic taste. Your home style is a mix and match of secondhand furniture from your parents’ home, a combination of bad house warming gifts and items you refuse to live without.
