Eringate lies south of Eglinton, west of Highway 427, north of Rathburn and east of Renforth Drive. Eringate is a quiet community with a suburban feel. Streets are quiet during the day with kids at school and parents at work. On weekends and in warm weather, the neighbourhood comes alive with residents playing in Eringate’s wellmaintained parks and greenspaces. An outdoor pool in Eringate Park is a summertime hotspot offering respite from sweltering weather. The vast majority of Eringate residents are small families with young children enjoying the quiet streets and peaceful surrounds.
There’s plenty of room to play in neighbourhood, plus shopping and lots of conveniences. Small retail strips are located along Rathburn, at Eringate and Renforth and at Wellesworth and Rangoon. This neighbourhood is serviced by bus routes along Rathburn, Eglinton and Wellesworth. The Wellesworth route connects residents to the TTC Subway system via Kipling Station in about 20 minutes. The majority of Eringate residents drive and can easily access Highways 427 and 401. The community is also very convenient for commuters looking to maintain their jobs in either of the major city centres that bookend Etobicoke, Toronto to the east and Mississauga to the west.

Families want to settle into new homes before the school year starts. Military personnel across the country are receiving new assignments. College and university students are moving into residences and apartments. Wherever you’re headed, beware of the “rogue movers” scam, which is a real threat! Typically, rogue movers will find victims through ads on popular classified postings websites, quote a low price, claiming “no surprise fees” or that “everything is included.” The fraudsters will deal with you by phone, insisting that a verbal contract is enough and that the paper copy can be signed on the day of the move. However, when they arrive at your doorstep, they present you with a very different contract, containing unexpected clauses and extra charges, such as warehousing and pickup fees. They pressure you to sign the contract or be left in the lurch. In some instances, the fraudsters will hold your possessions hostage until you pay what they want for their delivery. You’re left scrambling to find the money, hoping that you will get everything back in one piece. Moving is stressful enough without these unpleasant surprises. Follow these tips to make sure that your move goes off without a hitch. Seek certification: Some provinces require professional movers to have specific permits or registrations. This is a good starting point to find a legitimate company. Consult your provincial consumer protection agency for more information. Do your homework: Take the time necessary to research the company and consult multiple reviews. Contact your provincial consumer protection 22
agency or the Better Business Bureau to see if they have received complaints about the company. Get an estimate: Legitimate companies will send representatives to assess your needs, ensuring your quote is detailed and complete. This is an opportunity to inquire about any surcharges, insurances or additional fees and to ask questions. Get it in writing: Do not trust companies providing quotes or contracts over the phone. Get both in writing before the move and take the time to read the information carefully.

AS A RENTER, YOU’VE LIKELY HAD A MOMENT or two when you wished
you could make a big change to your unit — countertops, flooring or, on a bad day, everything. But you can’t make drastic changes, and you probably don’t want to invest time and money into it. Here are some non-reno renos for your rental. Use contact paper. Generic countertops are a staple in rental units but they are easy to change without renovations. Contact paper comes in all kinds of colours and designs and applying it can make a huge difference in the kitchen. You can change your counters or even add a backsplash without painting or breaking the bank. 28
Remove cupboard doors. If you remove the doors of your kitchen cupboards, for example, you create a bright, open-concept look. For an even richer effect, you can paint the insides of the cupboards or use contact paper to liven it all up. Change light fixtures and switches Replacing boring light fixtures with new distinctive ones like chandeliers or pendant lamps can really alter the look of your unit. If your home feels dark, this helps in the obvious way of brightening the space up, but it also helps a rental feel more unique. Check with your landlord before you play with anything electrical and you need to hire a professional. You can also change your light switch plates.
Replace the dull plastic ones with something fancy like gold or brightcoloured plates to create little pops of colour throughout your home. Paint Painting can be a pain, but it can have a dramatic effect. To mimic the look of a chair rail, paint two-tone walls — dark on the upper area and a lighter on the lower. Change the hardware A new showerhead can make a huge difference in the bathroom. If you buy the right one, it’ll make you feel like you’ve renovated your shower and it’ll look nice and shiny. While you’re at it, see if you can change up your faucets and little drawer knobs too.

Landlord problems Every renter can swap at least one good landlord story. Whether it’s that time you accidently locked yourself out of your home, or that week your landlord was on vacation and the building’s entire water supply was cut off. Fortunately, a fellow renter can always top your story no matter how bad you think it was, and make you feel better.

What happens next? They bond like two tween girls reunited at summer camp! Renters have a mutual understanding. Kind of like Game of Thrones enthusiasts or Keeping Up With The Kardashians fans (only better). If you don’t get these five things renters understand, you’re not a renter and you can’t sit with us. IKEA furniture struggles When it came time for me to furnish my first apartment – which was actually just the bedroom – I was concerned about how I would get my IKEA furniture from the store to
my new place without the option of calling Daddy. Then I realized the hard part was actually putting the furniture together. Who knew putting together a bed frame could actually take an entire day. Then, once you think it’s over, you end up with one leftover piece! Knowing your neighbour too well I’m all for befriending your neighbours, but there’s something about living in the same building that can make you and your neighbours a little too close for comfort. You hear things you don’t want to hear and you see things you don’t want to see
Do-It-Yourself – Everything Shopping with a fellow renter doesn’t result in much purchasing. You both admire home items and then laugh at the outrageous price tag together. You’re a DIY pro, and when people compliment your home decor you proudly proclaim “I did it myself!” No one understands your love for Pinterest quiet as much as a fellow renter does. It’s a lifestyle thing There’s also all the perks of being a renter that you love to brag about: the city lifestyle your rental gives you and the fact that the best pizza in town delivers straight to your door. The small closet space really doesn’t bother you and your neighbour has actually always had your back. Let’s not forget those amenities – is the pool party at your place or my place this weekend? Life’s good when you’re a renter.

From literary inspired cocktails to a Manhattan-esque bar, Toronto is packed with new hot spots for a night out. Whether it’s for the atmosphere or the creative cocktails, these trendy bars have been garnering quite the crowds. Here are Toronto’s newest and trendiest bars. Famous Last Words Bar 392 Pacific Ave. Literary nerds rejoiced when Famous Last Words opened its doors last fall. The book theme can be found throughout, from the décor to the menu and the drinks themselves. Owner Marlene Thorne takes inspiration from all of her favourite novels when creating her unique cocktails. Figures 137 Avenue Rd. Instagram went crazy when Figures opened this comic book shop in the front, restaurant in the back establishment earlier year. The cocktails are inspired by classic comic book and folklore characters, including the famous pitch black cocktail – Maleficent. Bar Reyna 158 Cumberland St. Yorkville’s latest bar is chic and fun! Bar Renya’s menu is inspired by the Mediterranean and the décor can only be described as luxurious. The bar has attracted the after-work crowd and the venue also has a heated patio! Grey Gardens 199 Augusta Ave. Jenn Agg opened her much anticipated Kensington Market wine bar, Grey Gardens to critical acclaim. It is safe to say it has an extensive wine list, accompanied by a menu of small plates, noodles and “medium” plates that include aged striploin. Grey
Gardens oozes with a cool vibe that seems to follow Agg wherever she goes. Brothers Food & Wine 1240 Bay St. Brother’s is the type of bar that makes you feel like you walked into a chic Manhattan hotel. The space is small and narrow, but that only adds to its feeling of exclusivity. From the cocktail menu to the food menu, everything has a Mediterranean focus. Otto’s Bierhalle 1087 Queen St. W. Open seven days a week, Otto’s Bierhalle has an endless selection of local and imported beers. The food is Bavarian inspired with items like spaetzle and schnitzel on the menu. It’s located on Queen West and owned by the people behind Otto’s Berlin Donner. Clocktower Bar 1210 Yonge St. When Boxcar Social opened its companion bar, it was an instant hit. The carefully crafted cocktails have been the talk of Toronto, and with all the syrups and bitters made in house it’s not hard to see why. If you want to try something new, order the Jalapeno Mint Margarita, a refreshing take on a classic. Swan Dive 1631 Dundas St. W. Swan Dive’s is the coolest dive bar in Toronto. The dimly lit room, dark
furniture and regulars at the bar have helped this spot become a go-to neighbourhood bar. Madame Boeuf 252 Dupont St. Hidden behind Bar Begonia, Madame Boeuf is a flea market and bar in one. The outdoor space serves a revolving cocktail menu, alongside a food menu of burgers and shrimp cocktail. It is owned by restauranteur Anthony Rose. Good Fortune Bar 130 Eglinton Ave. E. Good Fortune has been gaining a following since it opened its doors a little less than a year ago. Located in the basement of La Carnita, the restaurant is eclectic and one of the coolest looking bars in the city. With an underground setting, Good Fortune makes you feel like you just discovered the hippest bar in Toronto.
