f you’re a regular reader of Renters Guide, you know we offer a variety of information for those looking for a new place to call home. But did you know it is your responsibility as a tenant to know your rights and responsibilities prior to signing a lease agreement?

By knowing the terms of the rental contract ahead of time, you will be well informed and able to determine if the location is the right one for you. Once you choose your location, a landlord should give you adequate written notice when rent or landlord services have been adjusted, and you should be able to discuss any clarifications or adjustments before a new lease is signed.

Many landlords and property management companies do their jobs well and care about the property they own as well as the people who live there. It is in their best interest to keep good tenants. I remember making call after call – and I had to sit at home and make those calls in the days before everyone owned a cell phone and everything could be done on the go. I’ made time to visit every place, and then search some more. Now we’ve streamlined the experience, with all of the listings easy to search, refine, save and share. You can focus on what you really need when you’re able to see what’s actually available. And in a competitive market with such tight vacancies, being able to search and connect very quickly is advantageous.
