< MAYORS MESSAGE Once again it is that time of year when we come together as a community and celebrate Lindon Days. There are many who put forth a get deal of effort to create a time when we can reflect on our way of life and all the opportunities we have living in this great community. There are several events this year and hopefully something for everyone. Come and participate and get reacquainted with each other. Most of all foster a spirit of gratitude for all that we have and look to serve others as you continue to be involved in our city. < LITTLE MISS LINDON The theme for this year’s Little Miss Lindon Royalty is “Celebrate You.” These girls and their families wanted to celebrate the good people of Lindon. The float this year reflected the town’s theme of “ALittle Bit Country.” The float was built by Modern Display and was decorated with trees, grass, flowers, and a white picket fence. The girls in the Little Miss Lindon Royalty are grateful be able to serve such a beautiful city filled with so many wonderful people. They want to“Celebrate You!”

HAYLEE MACGILLVRAY-QUEEN

Haylee is the daughter of Andy and Summer MacGillvray. She is 13 years old and attends Oak Canyon Jr High School. Haylee loves to dance, run, swim, listen to music, and be with her friends. Haylee began dancing at age 3. Joined a competitive team at age 5 and has been competing in dance ever since. It’s been Haylee’s passion for over 10 years now and she has earned many awards but her favorite was being crowned Little Miss Lindon 2015! Haylee has enjoyed getting to know and serving with the other girls. She feels so blessed to be a part of the Lindon Community. Haylee’s greatest strength unknown to her is her extreme kindness that allows her to quickly disarm situations of bullying or hurt feelings. Haylee’s favorite subjects in school are drama and science. Her service project was collecting funds for the Huntsman Cancer Institute through Hardy’s Heroes.

Haylee has seen several people struggle with cancer throughout her life. Some have beat the odds and some have not. Haylee chose this project so she could honor her grandmother, Leslie MacGillvray, who fought cancer several times in her short 64 years of life. Haylee hopes you will join us in Celebrating Lindon and is excited for all the opportunities this year will bring.

MARIAH EVELYN-ATTENDANT

Mariah is the daughter of Robert and Reyna Evelyn. She is 11 years old and attends Lindon Elementary. Mariah is very active and enjoys running, loves dancing and choreographing her own dances. She brings her imagination to write. She works hard to find the right words to say what is on her mind. For her service project she took Valentines along with blankets and small gifts around to all the hospital pediatric wards in the valley. Mariah was so excited to perform service. She wanted to make something and have it be meaningful.

Making Valentines and wrapping them up with love and delivering them to a child who is experiencing a time of difficulty seemed perfect. By the time she had delivered all her Valentines, Mariah was walking on cloud 9. Mariah then asked her mom if she could deliver gifts to the hospital all the time.

GRACIE COOK-ATTENDANT

Gracie is the daughter of Tony and Julie Cook. She is 13 years old and attends Oak Canyon Junior High. Gracie is a talented artist.

She loves to paint, mold clay, sew, and most of all draw sketches of her favorite Disney characters. She is also very active. She enjoys gymnastics as well as other sports. She loves being with her friends and cousins, listening to music, and playing night games when the weather is good. Gracie loves to read and has spent several hours this summer reading her favorite series. Gracie has grown up helping out at the family greenhouse and has developed a love for plants and flowers. She thought Lindon could use some more color and noticed that the community center had empty flower beds. So, for her service project she decided to share her love of flowers with the city. She provided a custom design and plants to beautify the center. Gracie enlisted help from friends and family and they all a blast working and playing in the dirt.

Little Miss Lindon Royalty 2014

MIRIAM BELLISTON-ATTENDANT

Miriam is the daughter of Greg and Ameri Belliston. She is 12 years old and will be attending Oak Canyon Junior High in the fall. Miriam loves to read and finds books irresistible. Her idea of a perfect day would include at least six hours snuggled up in her favorite beanbag chair with snacks and a good book. Miriam is an accomplished pianist and talented singer, and she knows the power of hard work and daily discipline. Performing for others delights her, especially singing, and she jumps at any chance to speak in front of people. Not many things frighten her, except large spiders, and so she gets great pleasure in coercing her mother to go on scary roller coaster rides with her. For her service project Miriam made blankets for the United Angels Foundation, an organization that helps families with special needs children. Miriam feels grateful for the chance to serve in the Little Miss Lindon Royalty this year.

GRACE ROBINSON-ATTENDANT

Grace is the daughter of Aaron and Rachel Robinson. She is 12 years old and will attend Oak Canyon Junior High this fall. Grace is the only girl in her family and loves to spend time with her 2 older brothers and 2 younger brothers. She has a fun and silly sense of humor and loves to make people laugh. Grace enjoys clogging, playing soccer, and singing. She also loves animals, especially her hedgehog Deanna.

Grace’s service project was “Warm Hands Warm Hearts”. She collected over 115 winter coats, hats, and gloves for the homeless and delivered them to a downtown Salt Lake City homeless shelter. She felt that if she could help the homeless be warm it would bring them hope. Grace has loved serving the community through the Little Miss Lindon program and looks forward to serving throughout the year.

grand marshalls > Jon and Lindsey Bayless Lindon residents Jon and Lindsey Bayless have been named grand marshals of the 2015 Lindon Days Grand Parade scheduled on Saturday, Aug. 8, at 10 a.m.

Originally from London, England, Lindsey came to the United States at age 19 to attend Brigham Young University. Jon is originally from Mesa, Ariz., and served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in northern Britain (including Yorkshire and some of the Lancashire area). The family Lindsey would be living with in the USA were cousins of Jon’s, and she met her husband-to-be about 12 hours after arriving in Utah when she and her host family and Jon ended up at a family reunion together in Manti.

Jon also attended Brigham Young University, graduating with an associate’s degree in graphic arts technology, a bachelor’s degree in environmental design and a master’s degree in business administration. He spent his career working for the telephone company and reJon and Lindsey Bayless tired about five years ago. Lindsey quit school when she had children and eventually became mother to six sons and one daughter. While raising her children, she served as a volunteer in many capacities including being PTA president twice at Aspen Elementary School, serving on the PTA board of Mountain View High School and working with Cub Scouts and the 4-H organization.

Lindsey served a three-year term on the Lindon Planning Commission and then served as chairwoman of Lindon Days for two years. Eventually she was asked to enter the race for a position on At Your Service ™ the Lindon City Council. < GRAND MARSHALLS elected to serve on the council. “There were a lot of things I enjoyed,” Lindsey said. “I enjoyed getting to know so many people in the community. I enjoyed the people I worked with. I enjoyed that I was doing something about things I valued.”

While on the council, Lindsey was involved in many issues and projects in Lindon including setting up Lindon’s own police department and developing the city pool. She was passionate about preserving the city’s foothills, limiting development there and seeing a trail system put in place. She was also involved with the development of the Lindon Community Center, a former LDS church that was purchased by Lindon City and now houses the city recreation department, the city’s senior citizen center and many recreational programs.

Jon was a great support to Lindsey during her years of city service, keeping things running at home and helping her research issues. He also served on the Lindon Community Advisory Board

for five years, a group that helped develop the programming for the new community center and raised funds to help remodel the building. In addition to other service, the group created a heritage room in the community center that houses artifacts from Lindon’s past and obtained a grant to purchase a bus used to pick up senior citizens and takes them to lunch at the senior center.

Lindsey has always enjoyed doing genealogy, and when she left the city council she decided to become accredited as a professional genealogist.

She works as a professional in that field today and she and Jon spend one day a week as service missionaries at the LDS Church’s Family History Library in Salt Lake City.

Both have served in many callings in the LDS Church and enjoy living on their three acres of land in Lindon where they keep two horses. In addition to their seven children, the couple has 12 grandchildren.

The Utah National Guard, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion will be part of this event. Boys Scouts who wish to participate in the ceremony should dress in full uniform and arrive at 5:30 p.m.

Congress has authorized flags worn beyond repair to be destroyed by fire in a dignified manner, showing respect and reverence. Any personal flags you may have can be dropped off at the Lindon Community Center for this event for proper retirement.

The Family Arena Events are fun to participate in and exciting to watch. Space is limited, so preregistration is highly recommended to ensure participation.

family fun run and 5k > Sign your family up for our Lindon Days Family Fun Run 5K or Kids 1 Mile Run. Race will start at 7:00 a.m. with the 5K runners, shortly followed by our Kids 1 Mile Run.
