Walker County Clerk Kari French presented the Commissioners Court with this shadow box of the very first volume of Walker County records. Pictured from left is Precinct 2 Commissioner Ronny White, Walker County Clerk Kari French, Walker County Judge Danny Pierce, Precinct 4 Commissioner Jimmy Henry, and Precinct 1 Commissioner Danny Kuykendall.

By Wade Thibodeaux  Walker County Clerk Kari French waited until almost the very end of Commissioners Court on Monday, December 20, 2021 before she surprised the County Commissioners and County Judge with a framed shadow box containing some very old County records that had been restored and preserved. The box contained the very first volume of

County records and she presented it to the Court to be displayed in the room where Commissioners Court is held every other week. The gift was a Thank You to the Court for their assistance in a project that the Clerk’s Office has been working on for several years. That project was the restoration of all of the County records from the very beginning of Walker County until the

present day. Most of the older records were hand written and over time the ink had faded until it was illegible. A restoration company was contracted and they were able to place the old sheets of the records into a special solution that made the ink visible and then they were able to preserve the pages. This process took several years and was completed in phases.

This little girl had her letter to Santa ready to go as Santa sat and read her list of requests.
