Merry Christmas From Walker County Press Reckless Driver and Occupants Arrested with Multiple Charges

On Tuesday, December 15, 2021 Walker County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to a person with a weapon at a local business located in the 2200 block of US 190. While Deputies were en-route, dispatched advised that a Hispanic male left the scene driving a blue GMC pick-up on US 190. A Sheriff’s Office Deputy observed the pick-up recklessly head westbound on US 190 and initiated his patrol vehicle siren and emergency lights but the vehicle continued traveling at a high rate of speed and passing vehicles in

an unsafe way. After a 2 mile pursuit the driver finally came to a stop in the 1900 block of US 190. When Deputies approached the vehicle the distinct odor of marijuana emitted from the vehicle, which led to a further investigation and search of the vehicle. While searching the vehicle, drug paraphernalia, individual baggies of marijuana, 2 semi-automatic pistols, and a 12 gauge shotgun were found in the vehicle. Out of the 3 occupants in the vehicle, one occupant claimed ownership on a semiautomatic pistol,

denying ownership on all other items. 26 year old Pablo Castillo, 20 year old Tabitha Zamudio and 24 year old Giavante Opranozie were placed under arrest and transported to the Walker County Jail. Castillo is currently being held for Felon in Possession of Firearm (F3), Possession of Marijuana (MB), Evading Arrest with Vehicle (F3), and Prohibited Substance in a Correctional Facility (F3). Castillo was convicted of driving while intoxicated with a child under 15(SJF) on 4/15/2016 and had received 2 years confine-

By Wade Thibodeaux  Rob McCaffety with McCaffety Electric was in Walker County Commissioners Court on Monday, December 20, 2021 to explain to the Court about his request to provide all materials and labor to update the lighting at the Walker County Storm Shelter

and particularly in the area of where the new Vietnam Wall Display has been built. Rob explained that the new lighting would be state of the art LED fixtures and would provide extra lighting as well as reduce consumption and ultimately cost. He went on to say that he

was not seeking recognition, but instead it was just something that he felt like he needed to do and to give back a little to the community. The Court graciously accepted his donation and thanked him for his generosity.
